When planets with the largest globes enter new astrological signs, new trends develop in the collective. And when these planets relate to each     other in what astrologers call aspects; these developments take shape even more clearly.

One of those planets is Saturn, who is most popularly known for restriction, limitation, frustration and delay. Even in His most likable form, Saturn is discipline, determination and durability; virtues, true, but still not the life of the party.

Beyond such dreary adjectives, though, bottom line, it’s Saturn’s job to balance the dynamics of the sign through which He is transiting, and He does this by bringing out the best and the worst of the sign until the job is done.

Because His ultimate task is balance, what better sign for Him to transit than Libra, the sign signified by the balanced scales of justice! This sign allows Saturn to do His job most effectively.Since, in the early days of Saturn in Libra this time, namely between November ’09 and October ’10, He was interacting with – or in aspect to – Pluto in Capricorn, we have to tease His effects out from the other. For instance, the blow to Tiger Woods’ marriage as well as his squeaky clean image is the work of Saturn in Libra, but the sex addiction is Pluto.

Pluto, by the way, is not one of the sweet little dwarves who whistled while they worked with Snow White. Pluto is a War Lord, the god of transformation. Yes, transformation is a wonderful thing – when the experience of transformation is over. Until then, it’s war, and not the honourable kind, but rather guerrilla warfare.

His time in Capricorn is wearing away the world of capitalism, and eventually, He will recreate a new socio-economic system. In the greater process, he is also wearing down many old men, the individuals and institutions that represent the old world order, or in other words, the world of Capricorn.

Here’s another example of teasing out one symbol from another. Saturn in Libra represents the controversial Nobel Peace Prize to our President Obama, but within a matter of weeks, Pluto’s symbolism is seen in the ramping up of our war effort in Afghanistan.

The Release of Pressure Makes For Tragedy

As for the astrological symbolism of Haiti’s tragic earthquake in January 2010 – just pick something. So many dramatic symbols of traumatic passages were at work in such a concentrated moment of time. Saturn’s station, His square with Pluto, the Solar Eclipse, the station of Mercury, the retrograde of Mars, Jupiter’s transition from Aquarius to Pisces – so much imagery of passages had to make tragedy happen somewhere in the world.

For more detail, a station begins or ends a planet’s retrograde phase, and therefore intensifies the planet’s meaning. The square between Saturn and Pluto is the aforementioned aspect, which signifies the build-up of pressure, until only an explosion can release it. And when a planet leaves a sign to enter a new one, it rallies the qualities of the previous signs like a swan song. In a humorous instance, we might say the song that is associated with Jupiter leaving Aquarius is “Shake, Rattle ‘n’ Roll.”

The images of Saturn and Pluto are in the volcanic ash explosion of the mountainous volcanoes of Iceland too. Pluto, obviously, is the ash that came from the depths of the volcanoes, but Saturn represents the mountains and overall geography of Iceland.

In September 1923, when Saturn was in Libra and separating from a square to Pluto in Cancer (with Uranus in Pisces, by the way, and on a Solar Eclipse), there was the greatest earthquake in Japan’s history. It levelled Tokyo and Yokohama, and killed 300,000 people! (The tragic earthquake and tsunami in March 2011, is an astrological lesson for another day).

New Moon and Full Moon Days - Be in Tune with Moon’s Rhythms http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/19/new-moon-and-full-moon-days-be-in-tune-with-moons-rhythms/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/19/new-moon-and-full-moon-days-be-in-tune-with-moons-rhythms/#comments Thu, 19 Apr 2012 05:16:24 +0000 Aapki Kismat http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/?p=555 http://pics.livejournal.com/aapkikismat/pic/0003kw2wNew Moon Day is the moment when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction, meaning that the Sun and Earth are on the opposite sides of the Moon. From Earth we can only see the dark as the illuminated side is towards the Sun. The Sun and Moon are said to be in ‘conjunction’.

It is said that the Sun God and the Moon Goddess work aggressively together these days to destroy evil. No evil is tolerated. New Moons are times for introspection and spiritual matters. It is also a good time to begin new assignments and start medical treatments.

The Full Moon is known as “Poornima” in Sanskrit. This Moon phase occurs during a lunar month when the Moon is opposite the Sun from Earth allowing maximum reflection of the Sun’s rays.

It is said that the Sun God and the Moon Goddess are cooled down by the shower of the Full Moon rays which are the reflected Sun rays and in turn shower their blessings on Earth in the form of prosperity and joy. The Full Moon is an ideal time to create and manifest the material.

The Moon is Queen Luminary

The Moon is a luminary, as it reflects the light of the Sun. The Sun is the luminary, as it is the source of that light.

Moon is the Queen of the Solar System where the Sun is the King.

In Astrology, the Moon is the mind and the Sun is the self.

The Moon is responsible for giving form to mental proclivity or ‘manas’. The Sun is soul, the ‘atma’, the centre from which life evolves. The Moon connects us to the world and to each other. While the Sun is the core self through which you find expression in the world, the Moon is the inner life that only close companions get to experience.

The Sun and the Moon together create time. We have solar calendars like the Gregorian calendar, the Vedic calendar, etc and the lunar calendars like the Islamic Calendar and the tide tables used mostly by Coastal Guards, the Navy and fishermen.

Astrologically, the Moon has more magnetic power than the Sun. The Moon is the vehicle of the mind that receives the light from the Sun or soul. The Moon represents our inner nature and feeling, instinctive side. Whereas the Sun is the external, masculine portion of us, the Moon is the internal, feminine side, or yin principle. Cooperation or mutual direction of these two planets is hence vital for harmony and balance in life.

Phases of the Moon

Moon has two phases - the waxing phase and the waning phase

The inner Moon diagrams show how the Moon reflects the light of the Sun during its orbit. The outer Moon diagrams show how we view the Moon from our vantage point on Earth.

On Earth, we experience the influence of the Moon every moment of every phase due to its fluctuating nature. The Moon governs all water bodies- the oceans, lakes, ponds and our bodies since the 3/4th of the earth is surrounded by water. The Moon controls the tides and it controls our mind, specifically our right brain.

Think of the mind itself as a lake. When it is clear and still, you can see deeply. i.e. it resembles our mind that when we are clear and still, our intuitive powers are at their strongest hence allowing us to see things clearly and deeply. If we throw a pebble into the lake, the reflective surface becomes distorted, making our vision obscured.

EDUCATION AND VEDIC ASTROLOGY http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/education-and-vedic-astrology/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/education-and-vedic-astrology/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 12:51:46 +0000 Aapki Kismat http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/?p=552 http://pics.livejournal.com/aapkikismat/pic/0003hypk“Education giveshumbleness. Humbleness givesskill. Skill brings money. Money helps you to do religious deeds and your religious deeds bring lot of happiness to you.”

According to BhagyaSamhita in a horoscope 4th house is the karaka     house of education and 5th is that of intellect. For example 2nd house is the house of speech and goddess Saraswati so this also can be considered as house of education and knowledge. To get success in the field of higher education 9th house is important and 10th house is the Karaka house of name and fame from education. There is very close relationship between education and intelligence. Likewise there is close relationship between 4th and 5th house.

BhagyaSamhita says that all the planets are associated with different genres of education. For eg Jupiter is the chief karaka of Vedas, philosophy and astrology. Mercury is signification of mathematics, financial management and medical. Venus is auspicious for music and effective understanding. Mars gives the ability to rule and to fight against injustice. It is the chief karaka of art of warfare.

Sun signifies administrative education, medical and philosophy. Moon is auspicious for medical, poetry, astronomy, spiritual and astrological education. Saturn and Rahu are main Karakas of foreign education. 9th house, Jupiter and Moon are the chief karakas of spiritual education. In a birth chart the grasping power and the ability to get education is considered from Mercury whereas Jupiter is the chief karaka of one’s educational up gradation.

Intellect:

• If the lord of fifth house Mercury is touched with any benefit planet and gets aspect of a benefit planet.

• If 5th lord is in conjunction with benefit planets, Mercury is exalted, Mercury placed in fifth house or the Navamsa lord of 5th lord is well inspected by a benefice planet in Kendra.

• If any of the above be the case, the native would be brainy.

• If Mercury is in its own house or in a Kendra from the ascendant or remains in a trine the native gets flourished with high education, vehicles and property.

• If Jupiter is well inspected by Venus and Mercury in the ninth house the native is complete intellectual.

• If Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are in the ninth house the native is renowned scholar.

• The combination of Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn in the ninth house equips the native with complete knowledge and expression of speech.

• The native is very intelligent if 5th lord is hemmed between benefice planets or if the lord of the sign where 5th lord is placed gets auspicious aspect from a benefice planet.

• The intellect of native is very sharp when 5th house is in between two benefice planets, Jupiter is in 5th and Mercury is unaffiliated.

Memory:

• If the lord of fifth house is in conjunction or inspected by a benefice planet or the fifth house is occupied or inspected by a benefice planet or if the lord of fifth house from Jupiter is in Kendra or Trikona the native is blessed with sharp memory.

Grammar:

• If powerful Jupiter and the lord of second house are inspected by Sun and Venus the native can be acapable grammarian.

• The conjunction of powerful Jupiter with 2nd lord and Sun also proves beneficial to be good in grammar.

Mathematics:

• It is important for the Jupiter to be in the centre and Mercury should be the lord of second house or Venus should be exalted or in its own house. Just because of this combination the native has deep interest in mathematics.

• If Mars is in the second house with a benefice planet or inspected by Mercury or Mercury is in Kendra the native becomes a mathematician.

• If Jupiter is in Kendra or Trikona, Venus is exalted, Mercury and Mars in house of wealth or in any Kendra inspected by Mercury the native becomes a very good mathematician.

• If Moon and Mercury are in Kendra or in conjunction with 3rd lord Mercury or Mercury is in 6th from Saturn and Jupiter in 2nd from Lagna the native is very expert astrologer.

Eloquence of Speech:

• If 2nd lord Jupiter occupies 2nd house the native can become a full time public speaker and expresses his opinion effectively in his lectures provided it is not inspected by any malefic planet.

• Unaffiliated Jupiter and Mercury in 2nd house can enable the native to become extremely efficient in understanding.

• If Mercury and Jupiter occupy or aspect powerful 3rd house or are in Kendra from it, the native has very sweet voice.

SPORTS ASTROLOGY http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/sports-astrology/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/sports-astrology/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 12:17:54 +0000 Aapki Kismat http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/?p=549 http://pics.livejournal.com/aapkikismat/pic/0003g9dcWe can use astrology to predict sports. This is a fact and thisstunning prospect has interested astrologers and it has received relatively little serious attention, especially compared to the rapid advances astrology has made in other areas such as psychological or financial astrology.

There is a big difference between team sports and individual sports. While this may seem a little too obvious to merit mention, you may be surprised at the number of astrological research projects that have taken all sorts of athletes together in a sample and then delighted the sceptics by failing to demonstrate anything of statistical implication.

Astrologers say that the skills and conditions necessary for victory in different sports vary widely. Football and baseball are decidedly different games. Ice hockey and soccer, while more similar in design, differ much in surface. The same is true in individual competitions. For example, while swimming and track races tend to run along the same lines, winning a gymnastics or figure skating event is very different from winning a sp    rint.

THE HORARY APPROACH TO THE STAR OF THE GAME

Astrologers approach the method the sports question as a type of modified exercise in horary astrology. Horary astrology is a time-honoured technique wherein a single chart is cast for when and where a question is asked in order to determine that question’s answer. In keeping with the astrological theory that the beginnings of things contain within them their end, the chart for the beginning of a match is used to predict the final outcome.

Astrologers says that different houses of the game chart are chosen to represent the two sides, whether home team vs. away team, favourite vs. underdog, or whatever is appropriate to that particular contest. The planetary rulers of the signs on those houses are assessed and their relative strength is determined using a variety of techniques, both ancient and modern. The side with the strongest ruler(s) is generally declared the winner.

In one method you only have to use one chart, which you may find attractive but one drawback is there. That is a great difference of opinion between astrologers over which house rules what. For example many claim that the Ascendant or First House rules the home team and the Descendant, or Seventh House, rules the away team. Others claim the opposite. Obviously, they can’t both be right, but they all claim to get splendid results. Let’s just say that the definitive analysis on this has yet to be done.

NATAL APPROACH

Few astrologers focus on the birth charts of the competing parties, trying to determine who is best supported or worst afflicted by the astrological conditions during the match. In a competition between two individuals, they would use the athletes’ birth charts, and compare them to the game chart.Though, in a contest between two teams, they might use a birth chart for the teams, or charts for key personnel on each team or some combination of the two. And just what establishes a chart for a team? Few astrologers like to use the chart of a team’s first game, while others prefer to use a chart for the beginning of the team franchise. Again, there is little to no consensus on this issue.

METHOD OF PREDICTION

We can say that in sports prediction, it’s hard to hide behind the scoreboard. You are either right or wrong and there is very little grey area, unlike personal forecasts, which can be highly personal. Rather than debate the merits of these two distinct approaches, I prefer to point out that there are only a very few astrologers on this planet who generate a reliable profit from the accuracy of their sports predictions. Any number of methods could work for you if you are objective and disciplined in your approach, but that could be just another emotional opinion. For the record, in my work I don’t use horary at all and I rarely use team charts.

Do you believe that the outcome of a sporting contest is determined before the match even begins? The response to that question could have everything to do with your choice of astrological techniques and how you would go about solving the problem that sports prediction poses.

Do you think that you are of the determinist stripe, believing that everything is preordained and that we mortals have little choice in our fates, you may prefer the horary approach. Decreasing human endeavours to a battle between planetary rulers doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for individual efforts or contributions.

If, on the other hand, you are more philosophically inclined toward freedom, and see man as the author of his own fate, you may prefer methods that use individual birth charts and compare individual efforts.

Rest if you want to know that is there any future in sports you should seek the help of an expert astrologer or you should take the help of BhagyaSamhita. It can be your best friend to choose a profession in sports.

According to BhagyaSamhita Astrology there are extremely brainy, sensible and familiar sages and gurus of India, who developed some wonderful remedies that would help us all get rid of any type of physical, mental and emotional problems with the help of Jyotish (Vedic Astrology), Ayurveda (Indian medical Science), Mantra siddhi, Saadhna and ‘Dhyaan’ (meditation) to give improved wealth and improved destiny to new generation.

Thus, when you feel that your confidence level is going week or life is going dull and boring due to your over-emotional or over-anxious nature, or if there’s someone trying to cause harm to your goodness, or your thrilling angry spells causing problems at home and work or any big or small problem for that matter, that’s making life totally a weight and empty affair for you, then it’s time to improve and do something towards making life beautiful, healthy and once again lucky to bring to you a series of Natural remedies to recover the condition of all the weak PLANETS in your Vedic horoscope or birth chart. I will tell you thatworry, over emotional nature, inability to “enjoy” life, lack of confidence;uncertainty and over-possessiveness are some of the signs of bad condition of “MOON” in your chart. Someone with a good moon finds pleasure in even the small things that life has to offer. While, for most of us, life is nothing but a series of unexplained mysteries and endless pain. If your life has become dull for any reason, and it’s been ages for you to have knowledgeable any mental satisfaction or bliss, then you must do the following to improve the condition of MOON in your horoscope.

a) Drink lots of water.

Moon is a watery planet according to Jyotish or Vedic Astrology. It represents our feelings, boldness towards life, relationship with the mother or condition or nature of mother, application of thoughts and ideas, presentation skills and ability to enjoy things. In order to improve Moon, we must increase the intake of ‘water’ in our routine. Paradoxically, the people with a bad moon find it extremely difficult to drink lots of water. But since we are on a mission to improve our fate and moon is one of the most important planets that contribute towards healthy, wealthy and “lucky” life, you must resolve to drink lots of water to get a step closer towards a bright future.

b) Increase the intake of Calcium.

White and watery moon can cause a lot of spiritual and emotional problems that go a long way in weakening our body. Remember mind and body are inter-related. If your mind is unhealthy then you’re bound to have lots of physical problems sooner or later. Pains, migraines, tremors, pain in the neck, body and joints are some of the most common illnesses that a bad moon causes. It causes deficiency of calcium. So, you must increase the intake of those calcium rich food items in your diet and drink milk. Please drink a cup of milk preferably with, green cardamoms (hariilaaychi) every day. If you’re an Insomnia patient, then drink this milk half an hour before going to sleep.

c) Wear Silver Ornaments

A superb remedy to build your determination, keep your mind peaceful and strong- wear silver jewellery. You can wear a Kara (bracelet) in your right hand or a thumb ring (joint less) or silver chain with a small silver ball. Whatever, you wear, just try that it is completely joint less and also, touches the skin of your body.

d) Drink water in a silver glass

If possible, you should drink water in a silver glass. It will help you keep cool and in control of your emotions.

e) Donate milk, sugar, rice to the needy preferably, on Mondays.

f) Spiritual Remedy

Do meditation and Pranayama on regular basis. “AnulomVilom” pranayam is considered one of the best remedies to improve mind and soul, and get rid of problems like, insomnia, unhappiness, stress and anxiety. You can also simply recite- Om for 10 minutes. Do this daily either in the morning Sandhi - within an hour of sunrise (union of day and night) or evening Sandhi - within in an hour of sunset.

g) Religious Remedy

According to Hinduism, “Shiva” is considered to be the Devata (Godhead) associated with the planet moon. Reciting “Om NamahShivaya” or any other mantra related to Lord Shiva and Shakti (Goddess Parvati-the consort of Lord Shiva) 108 times a day (it takes only about 5-10 mints to do this) is known to bring wonderful results. You can start feeling a change within you in just a matter of a few days doing this remedy. You can also, read “Shiva Chalisa” if you’re unable to recite mantras. Prayer to Lord Shiva with full devotion, faith and love, is also considered enough to improve your mind, moon and thus, your destiny.

F) THE MOST IMPORTANT REMEDY FOR MOON TO KEEP GOOD RELATIONS WITH YOUR MOTHER Respect and server your mother to the best of your abilities. Try to include her in every important decision of your life. Nothing else will help you more than this. If you don’t have a mother, then respect any motherly figure around you. Generally, people with bad moon are unable to keep good relations with their mothers’ because of non-understanding nature of their mother. Well, whatever be the conditions, no matter how much your mom insults you, rebukes you or does badly to you, you must respect her if you want to improve your future.

According to BhagyaSamhitaSUN and MOON are those two planets which according to Jyotish, make or spoil your fortune. So, it is very important to keep these two planets very strong otherwise, no Rajyoga will give its 100% results ever.Anyways, hope the above mentioned remedies, (if done correctly by you) bring lots of happiness, good mental and physical health, fortune and prosperity in your life. Please always, remember that nothing works overnight. Have tolerance and full faith in the God and your life will surely improve.

Varuthini Ekadasi http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/varuthini-ekadasi/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/18/varuthini-ekadasi/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 11:31:10 +0000 Aapki Kismat http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/?p=543     17 April 2012 6:06 – 10:35

Ekadasi is a day found in the Vedic calendar eleven (eka = 1; dasam = 10) days after the full moon (purnima) and the new moon (amavasya). As each month contains both a full and a new moon, each Vedic month will contain two Ekadasis. With twelve months, in a year, there are twenty-four Ekadasi observance dates.

The spiritual significance is that one would fast from eating and focus attention on spiritual activities to improve the relationship with Krsna. From the historical or the religious standpoint, this day is known as the “Day of Hari.” After Ekadasi day is completed, one would break the fast on the next day known as Dvadasi*** (12th day after new or full moon). It is important to know that the fast must be broken with within a specific time range. Additionally, it must be broken with the foods that one fasted from. Usually, one breaks the fast with grains or beans, as all Ekadasi days require one to fast from this at least).

ADVENTAGE OF EKADASI

The adventage of Ekadasi takes place when Lord Visnu created a personality that punished sinful people named Papa-purusa (embodiment of sin). Papa-purusa had a ghastly and ugly form where his various body parts composed of sinful activities. With such a personality formed, Lord Visnu felt that Papa-purusa must be controlled. He visited Yamaraja, the demigod of the afterlife. Upon visiting Yamaraja, He heard crying and noises of pain and suffering from the Earth. Everyone on Earth went to the hellish planets due to their bad karma. Upon seeing this sight, Lord Visnu felt pity for the suffering souls.

Lord Visnu, then, expanded Himself into personifying the eleventh day of the lunar calendar, Sri Ekadasi. When the inhabitants of Earth followed Sri Ekadasi’s observance, their pious nature allowed them to aboard Vaikuntha, the holy abode of Lord Visnu. This threatened the existence of Papa-purusa. Therefore, Papa-purusa prayed to Lord Visnu reminding Him that if Ekadasi’s pious effects win the earth, then there would be no need to exert pastimes. Therefore, Lord Visnu ordered Papa-purusa to reside in grains on the day of Ekadasi, where Ekadasi cannot touch him.

EKADASI DIET

Due to the presence of Papa-purusa in the grains, Ekadasi forbids one to eat grains or beans. Although there are very strict guidelines for forbidden foods, acceptable items are milk, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Spices, except for asafetida (hing), are acceptable. Some may choose to do a complete fast from everything, including water. Those are said to perform a nirjalaekadasi (nir = without; jala = water). This is optional, although there is one Ekadasi* in the summer which requires one to fast from everything, including water, if one has broken an Ekadasi throughout the year.

Certain fasting days like Krsnastami or GauraPurnima will require the fast to be broken with “Ekadasiprasadam.” It is prasada (offered food to the Lord) that adheres to the guidelines for the Ekadasi diet.

While grains cannot be eaten, they be offered to Radha or Krsna or anything of Their forms, except Lord CaitanyaMahaprabhu and His associates. In addition, grains may not be offered to the spiritual master. As the spiritual master is a devotee, and Lord Caitanya and associates are assuming roles of devotees, they would adhere to the same rules. After completing the grain offering to the acceptable Deities, one can store the preparation for the next day. Lastly, whether it is Ekadasi or not, one must abstain from eating meat, fish, and eggs

Whether a child should go for service or one’s own business, whether one should join politics or become a dedicated professional. Sometimes the native wants to change his or her hobby or interest to a profession but he is uncertain to do so as he is not certain of his attainment. The astrological configuration of the birth chart or horoscope plays a major role in determining to select and get success in a particular field. In a birth chart or horoscope the lord of the 10th house of profession, 11th house of gains andfulfilment of desires, 1st house of choice andacknowledgment, 2nd house of gathered wealth and status through family or profession and all planets are considered and analysed to predict for the native’s professional or career features in life.

In addition to that we also have to consider the placement and strength of benefit planets, their forthcoming main and sub periods, for example, for Cancer Horoscope Mars is lord of the 10th house and it is placed in the benefit 7th house. In this case Mars can become high and cansure give the native dedication, hard work, focused efforts towards his profession allowing him to get success but if the approaching periods are of any malefic planets then there can be certain limits of the results.

The best time to see the planet Saturn is here. April and May 2012 are when this golden world – planet of the rings – is easiest to spot and brightest. The planet Saturn is relatively easy to find in 2012, because it’s near a bright star, Spica, in the constellation Virgo. This star always returns to the early evening sky in April – spring for the Northern Hemisphere, autumn for the Southern Hemisphere. Spica stays out all night long – or nearly all night long – on April and May nights. Likewise, April or May of 2012 will also be the best time to see the ringed planet Saturn in all its glory.

In 2012, you can follow the curve in the handle of the famous Big Dipper asterism to find the planet Saturn.

Drive a spike to Spica – and Saturn – in 2012

On April 15, 2012, Earth will pass between Saturn and the sun. That is why Saturn is at its best this year in April and May. In mid-April, Saturn will rise in the east as the sun sets in the west. Why? Because that is when Earth is passing between Saturn and the sun, and Saturn is opposite the sun as seen from Earth.

Saturn closest, brightest, opposite the sun on April 15

Our Earth in its smaller, faster orbit around the sun is gaining on Saturn as we speak. We fly through space at some 107,000 kilometers per hour (67,000 miles per hour), in contrast to Saturn’s 35,000 kilometers per hour (22,000 miles per hour). So naturally there will come a time when Earth passes between Saturn and the sun.

We do this every year, and, at such a time, we always see Saturn opposite the sun in our sky – rising in the east when the sun is setting in the west. Our passage between Saturn and the sun is called an opposition of Saturn.

Why is the time around opposition the best time of year to see Saturn? Every year, around the time we go between the sun and Saturn, the ringed planet is at its closest to Earth and brightest in our sky. Saturn is the faintest of the bright planets. It’s still pretty bright, but, normally, you wouldn’t pick it out from among the stars. But around April or May of 2012 you can, because Saturn appears about as bright as the brightest stars.

Because we’ll be passing Saturn – the sixth planet outward from the sun – from an inside track around the sun, the ringed planet will actually look as if it’s going backward (retrograde) in front of the fixed stars of the constellation Virgo from February 8, 2012, until June 26, 2012.

This apparent westward (retrograde) movement of Saturn is really an illusion. If you were in a race car passing another race car from the inside track, you might glimpse the other car appearing to be going backwards for a time relative to background objects. It’s not really going backwards, of course. It only looks that way. In the same way, Saturn normally moves toward the east in front of the stars, but this outer planet appears to be going westward against the background stars for a few months every year, around the time of its opposition.By the way, Saturn’s yearly opposition happens about two weeks later with each passing year. The 2009 opposition was on March 8. The 2010 opposition was on March 21. The 2011 opposition was on April 3. The 2012 opposition is April 15. And the 2013 opposition will be on April 28.Saturn basics

Earth travels around the sun once a year, while Saturn takes about 29-and-a-half years to orbit the sun once. Earth’s orbit is smaller, and we move faster than this outer planet. So once a year, we pass between Saturn and the sun and gain another lap on the planet.

Golden Saturn as seen by the Voyager 2 spacecraft in 1980You might realize from what I just said that Saturn is relatively slow-moving in orbit and, therefore, slow to change its position against the background stars. That’s why the early stargazers called it “the oldest of the old sheep.”

Like all planets, Saturn is lovely to gaze upon. Its golden color is fascinatingly reminiscent of wonderful spacecraft photos of Saturn. It’s a real place, after all, not just a light in the sky. Plus, Saturn’s brightness waxes and wanes in a subtle way throughout every year, making it fun to watch.

Can you see the rings of Saturn if you look with the eye alone? No, you need a small telescope to see the rings. But, to the unaided eye, Saturn will appear as a bright golden “star” … very beautiful. And unlike the twinkling stars, Saturn will shine with a steady light. That might help you identify it.

I want you to see Saturn at its best in April and May 2012.

On April 15, 2012, the Earth in its orbit will pass between Saturn and the sun, at which time Saturn will appear opposite the sun in our sky. So, in April and May 2012, if you’re looking for Saturn during the evening hours, you should be facing east to southeast at nightfall and south around middle to late evening.

On any night of 2012 – because the planet Saturn stays close to the star Spica throughout 2012 – you can rely on the Big Dipper to guide you to Spica and Saturn. In other words, you can follow the arc to Arcturus and drive a spike to Spica from the handle of the Big Dipper. Once you identify Spica, notice the bright golden starlike object nearby. That’ll be Saturn. Saturn and Spica’s orientation with respect to the horizon will change throughout the year, and they are different in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. But Saturn and Spica remain close during 2012. Two bright objects in the sky, near each other, might be them!

ASTROLOGY AND CHESS (a game or a divine thing) http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/14/astrology-and-chess-a-game-or-a-divine-thing/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/2012/04/14/astrology-and-chess-a-game-or-a-divine-thing/#comments Sat, 14 Apr 2012 07:56:40 +0000 Aapki Kismat http://blogs.rediff.com/aapkikismatsblog/?p=534 According to Vedic Astrology there are some obviousconnections between the game of chess and the astrology which tells us that the Chess is a game encouraged by the Universal Laws, maybe by the planetary movement.

We can say that Chess is another kind of Astrology.

• Like in Chess we have a board divided in 8 columns and 8 rows, same as in Astrology we use the zodiacal circle divided in 12 signs.

• In Chess we have 6 symbols, the pieces (King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, and Pawn), in Astrology we have 7 symbols, the 7 traditional planets, (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn).

• There are rules for the movement of these symbols and each has a specific value or clarification.

• The Art of the Player of Chess is to thoroughly study and understand the network of influences and forces on the chessboard, then to elaborate a strategy that will lead him/her to the defeat of the opponent.

• Astrologer is an art tostudy carefully and understand the network of impacts in the astrological chart, then to elaborate an overall conclusion of it.

• So far we seem to have only some general rules that apply to most board games.

There are some strong pieces-planets correlations.

• The King is considered as it isconnected with the Sun. When the King is overwhelmed and captured (checkmate) the ready is over.

• The Queen is correlated with the Moon in astrology. The Moon moves fastest of all planets, so does the Queen on the chessboard. In horary and traditional astrology the Moon is the most important planet as the Queen in Chess.

• Pawns are like children, which are usually ruled by the Moon. When they grow old, that is, when they reach the other end of the chessboard, they become Queens. Thus the Pawns are also correlated with Moon.

• Bishops areconnected with Jupiter, as Jupiter rules the religion and the religious persons. Though, as the Bishops move always diagonally and there is the planet Mars whose glyph or symbol is a circle with an arrow coming out of it inslanting direction, thus the Bishops can also be connected functionally with Mars. So, the Bishops’ nature is Jupiter or Mars.

•The Rooks are also named Castles, therefore are related with Saturn. Since they move only horizontally or vertically. As the ideogram of Venus is a formed of a circle with a cross below it, we may say that the Rooks are functionally related with Venus. So, the Rooks’ nature is just like Saturn or Venus.

• The Knights are like Horses, and they move abnormally by jumping over other pieces, much like flying. Therefore, the Knights may be related with Mercury, the Roman name of Hermes, the messenger god, with winged sandals.

ASTROLOGICAL GROWTH OF CHESS

Now we see the connections between the twelve astrological houses of an astrology chart and the growth of a game of chess.

Traditional “Happiness of the planets” are particularly helpful concept here. It refers to the house where a planet enjoys itself, its energy being really suitable and useful there. The astrological tradition says that Mercury has its joy in the 1st house, the Moon in the 3rd house, Venus in the 5th house, Mars in the 6th house, the Sun in the 9th house, Jupiter in the 11th house and Saturn in the 12th house.

• 1st house is related with the start of the game. The players move the first pieces. At this stage, the Knights are very important as they jump over the Pawns and can attack the opponent’s Pawns. Mercury (the Knights) has its joy in the 1st house.

• 2nd house is associated with the next stage of the game, the development of the pieces, the building of a structure of defence.

• 3rd house is related with the building of a line of advanced Pawns (associated with the Moon), cooperating and defending one another. At this stage the Pawns are really important. The Moon has its joy in the 3rd house.

• 4th house is related with the castling. The King is put behind a wall of Pawns, in a safe place. The first part of a regular chess game is over.

• 5th house is related with thinking of a strategy of action; here the creativity of the player is put to trial. The main issue now is to strengthen one’s position in order to impress the adversary. The Rook (Venus) enters the game for the first time, as it got out of the chessboard corner through the castling. Venus has its joy in the 5th house.

• 6th house is related with a stage of preparations. Once the overall strategy has been established in the previous stage, it is now the time to put it into practice, first by apparently innocent moves. In the same time, one must be alert to speculate any bad move of the opponent, while trying to fix any weak points in the defence. The Knights (Mars) should be used to control the diagonals. Mars has its joy in the 6th house.

• 7th house is related with the attack, with the overt challenge. It is the first house over the horizon and from now on the game can be played openly. The 8th house is related with traps and pitfalls, the most risky stage of the game, when the attack may fail and this would lead to a keyattack. If the attack is successful, the opponent’s defence line can be broken and some of his pieces taken: the 8th house is the turned 2nd house (pieces) from the 7th house (opponent).

• 9th house is related with important steps toward victory. Once the defence line of the opponent has been broken, at this stage the King (Sun) may be vulnerable, by check. The Sun has its joy in the 9th house.

• 10th house is the stage when the player is already leading and now has to plan the next steps to make toward victory.

• 11th house is related with the final stage of the game, when the final plan is put into practice. After both sides have captured many pieces, the Knights (Jupiter) have now plenty of space to run across the chessboard. Jupiter has its joy in the 11th house.

• 12th house is related with the end of the game. The Rooks (Saturn) are related from behind the Pawns to advance and transform into Queens, which can checkmate the adversary’s King and bring the victory. Saturn has its joy in the 12th house.

AN ASTROLOGICAL OVERVIEW OF CHESS

• Consider the 1st house to represent the player that makes the first move in the game, the one with the white pieces, while the opponent, the player with the black pieces, will be represented in the 7th house.
