The Socrates http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2009/07/25/the-socrates/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2009/07/25/the-socrates/#comments Sat, 25 Jul 2009 07:16:47 +0000 Ayushi Sharma

In ancient Greece, Socrates was a great philosopher and widely acclaimed for his wisdom.

One day, a friend ran up to him excitedly and said, “Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students called Plato?”

“Wait a moment,” Socrates replied. “Before you tell me anything, I would like you to answer a few test questions.

It’s called the "Triple Filter Test".

“Triple filter?” asked the friend.

“That’s right,” Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my student,

I am going to ask you three questions.

The first Filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”

“No,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it and………..”

“All right,” said Socrates. “So you are not sure if it’s true or not.

Now let’s try the second filter, the Filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?

“No, on the contrary…….. said the man.

“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him, even though you’re not certain it’s true?”

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. “You may still pass the Triple Filter test though, because there is a third filter - the Filter of Usefulness.

Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really……..

“Well,” concluded Socrates, “If what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good, nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?”

The man was defeated and ashamed. If everybody only spoke only what is the truth, what is Good & what is Useful, then imagine how it would be……………….

Have a Nice Day….

Anger and Love http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2009/01/10/anger-and-love/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2009/01/10/anger-and-love/#comments Sat, 10 Jan 2009 09:27:30 +0000 Ayushi Sharma

A sage asked his disciples,” Why do we Yell in anger?

“Why do people yell at each other when they are  upset?’

The man thought for a while and replied, “Because we lose our calm  and hence yell…”

“But, why to Yell when the other person is just next to you?’ asked  the sage…

“Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her  with a soft voice?

Why do you yell at a person when you’re angry?’

The man gave some other answers but none satisfied the sage.

        Finally he explained,

When two people are angry at each other,  their hearts distance a lot.

To cover that  distance they must yell, to be able to hear each other. ”

The angrier they are,  the stronger they will have to yell to hear each other through that great  distance.’

Then the sage asked,

What happens when two people fall in love? They do not yell at each other but talk softly, why?

Their hearts are very close.  The distance between them is very small…

The sage continued, ‘When they  love each other even more, what happens?

They do not speak, only whisper  and they get even closer to each other in their love.

Finally they even need not  whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all.

That is how close two people are  when they love each other.’

Then the sage said,

When you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words  that distance each other more,

else there will come a day when the distance is  so great —that you will not find the path to return.’

HIV Message http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2008/10/29/hiv-message/ http://blogs.rediff.com/aayushi/2008/10/29/hiv-message/#comments Wed, 29 Oct 2008 11:05:38 +0000 Ayushi Sharma

I.A..S, Director of Medical
& Research Div,
Chennai

Dear Friends,
A few weeks ago, in a movie theatre, a person felt
something poking from her seat.
When she got up to see what it was, she found a
needle sticking out of the seat with a note attached saying

“You have just been infected by
HIV”.

The
Disease Control Center (in Paris ) reports many similar events in many other cities recently. All tested needles were HIV Positive.

The Center also reports that needles have been found in cash dispensers at public banking machines. We ask everyone to use extreme caution when faced with
this kind of situation. All public chairs/seats should be inspected with vigilance and caution before use. A careful visual inspection should be enough….. In addition, they ask that each of you
pass this message along to all members of your family and your friends
of the potential danger.

Recently, one doctor has narrated a somewhat similar instance that happened to one of his patients at the Priya Cinema in
Delhi . A young
girl, engaged and about to be married in a couple of months, was pricked while the movie
was going on. The tag with the needle had the
message

“Welcome to the World of HIV family”..

Though the doctors told her family that it takes about 6 months before the virus grows strong enough to start damaging the system and a healthy victim could survive about 5-6 years,
the girl died in 4 months, perhaps more because of the “Shock thought”.
We all have to be careful at public places, rest God help! Just think about saving a life by
forwarding this message. Please, take a few seconds of your time to pass along.
Rather than forwarding irrelevant mails, kindly pass this to every one.
Probably
ur mail can help to save his/her life

P Please don’t print this unless you really need to. Ayushi Sharma
