Assam is now in turmoil as Muslims are targeted by the majority community in Assam, North east of India.
The violence erupted as the presidential poll was on its way, in which Congress nominee Pranab Mukherji, belonging to West Bengal, and BJP nominee Sangma from North East competed for presidency. The former won. The former finance minister comfortably crossed the halfway mark with 558,000 votes to secure his journey to Rashtrapati Bhavan. His rival, former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma was way behind with 239,966 votes as counting continued.
President Mukherjee has inherited an imported Mercedes Benz and a palace along with healthy Mogul garden, armed forces ill-focused on Kashmiri Muslims, Supreme Court with judges who cannot avoid bribes, a parliament with a team of corrupt politicians and a strong rubber stamp from his predecessor queen Pratibha Patil. Soon after he was declared president-elect, the 76-year-old Mukherji said “he was very happy” and vowed to end poverty and corruption.
However, an uneasy calm settled over Assam’s Kokrajhar and Chirang districts with “no fresh” incidents reported in the communal violence that has claimed at least 40 lives and affected more than 170,000 people. The dead also include four people shot dead by police. Ten people are missing.
The violence started July 19 after gunmen attacked two Muslim student leaders in Magurbari. Following this, four former Bodo militants were shot dead. Both the communities then began attacking each other, accusing each other of orchestrating ethnic cleansing.
The worst affected in the riots were Kokrajhar and Chirang, which form the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) along with Baksa and Udalguri districts. The two districts have become a cauldron of communal tension since July 19 with violence breaking out between the Bodos, who are tribals, and Bengali-speaking Muslims.
Sixty-seven companies of central paramilitary forces had been deployed in the areas. Some forces had also been deployed in Dhubri, where violence had spread but had been contained later. Besides, 4,000 troops have been deployed in the violence affected areas. Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri share a contiguous landscape. While Dhubri shares the border with Bangladesh in the south, Kokrajhar and Chirang border Bhutan.
Curfew was relaxed in both districts, where thousands of people have fled their homes and are living in refugee camps. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who visited the areas said the law and order is the top priority of his government.

Terrorism is caused by anti-Islamic forces. Fake democracies like USA and India have zero-tolerance to any criticism of their anti-Muslim and other aggressive practices. Anti-Muslimism and anti-Islamism are more dangerous than ”terrorism” Anti-Islamic forces & terrorists are using criminal elements for terrorizing the world and they in disguise are harming genuine interests of ordinary Muslims. Global media today, even in Muslim nations, are controlled by CIA & other anti-Islamic agencies.
