stampede in bilaspur

This is with reference to the incident occurred in Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) on 3rd August 2008 in Nayna Devi temple. A mere rumor took more than 150 lives.

It is even more shocking when we compare the toll with last three terrorist attacks.

Religious places (Temples, Mosques etc) in India attract thousands and lakhs of devotees at a time. By understanding the importance of the lives and need of the time the government should ensure proper arrangements of standby medical facilities, police personnel deployment should be made on urgent basis to control the panic situation in the mob. It has been observed that lack of sufficient logistic arrangements costs many lives in emergency situations. People should be properly guided through PA system and CCTV cameras should be installed to control anti-social activities on these kind of sensitive places.

In the situation of stampede children and women are the worst sufferers, hence separate lines should be an option for them. There is a need of emergency management cell consisting trained policemen & doctors in every district that can control casualties occurred by man or nature. Similar kind of arrangements should be also implemented near important public places like railway, bus stations. As declaring compensation for the dead and injured is not a permanent solution, government should get serious in providing safety to the common man. Therefore I request to these great leaders to dilute their 10 % security expenses on the safety of people who vote for them.
