Philosophers down the ages have written about pain, destiny, misery and the search for happiness. These great minds gave us so many options to choose from, some exuberantly optimistic while some had the potential to drown you to the bottom of depression. While going through the works of two of my all time reverred ‘guru’s Omar Khaiyyam and Kahlil Gibran, I found two verses on the same subject ‘Destiny’ but was extremely intrigued to see their absolutely contrast views…here they are
The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all the Tears wash out a word of it.
The Rubaiyat of Omar Khaiyyam,Omar Khaiyyam (1048?-1122)
But if you in pain your pain
all birth an affliction and,
the support of the flesh a
curse written upon your
brow,
then I answer that
naught but the sweat of your brow
shall wash away that what
is written.
The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931)
Thought-wise I go for Kahlil but style…khaiyyam is Khaiyyam!! Who gets your vote pal?
