A day on which I did nothing

July 9th, 2009

Yesterday evening it had rained in Pune. Since it was raining and I had no raincoat, I decided to enjoy the rain by getting wet while coming back to home. Today when I woke up, I realised that I had not properly dried my hair because I had fever.

I did not wanted to call sick at work and still had about three hours to report to work. So, I decided to take a crocin and sleep. I woke up at around 9 A.M. and found that it takes more than two hours for crocin to show its effect.  Since I was not sure how long it would take a crocin to heal me, I decided to take another crocin and call for sick leave at work.

I called one of my colleagues and informed him that I will not be able to attend office today. He wished me speedy recovery and told me that he will take care of the formalities. Until now, crocin had failed to show any healing or placebo effects. So I called one of my friends and asked him whether he knew any other medicine for fever.

My friend patiently listened to me and replied," What do you need medicine for? Be a man" I told him that, "I am sure that I am man and I am quite sure that crocin is not working for me." He thought for a while and said, "Come on, be a man. Men do not take medicine. They endure pain." Since it was too late to avoid any medicine, I asked him, "Do you remember Peter Pan. The boy who never grew up. Instead of being a man, can I be a boy." He asked me to name the new Peter Pan. I thought for a while and was unable to recollect any actor who had recently played Peter Pan. So I told him, "I don't remember and with so much fever, I don't care".

He told me that the new Peter Pan was Michael Jackson and asked me whether I wished to end up like him. I thought for a while about the media coverage that MJ's death had got. Personally, I don't think any newspaper will carry my obituary until my family paid money to the newspaper for publishing my obituary. However, since I give more preference to living than seeing my name in print, I decided to take his advice and went to sleep.

I woke up at around 12:00 A.M. and felt quite better. There was some weakness but there was no fever. This meant that instead of taking sick leave, I should have taken a half-day leave. Unfortunately, its the historians and not me who have power to change the past. Due to this, I decided to spend the remaining day watching movies.

I checked my movie collection and found that there was only one DVD that I had not seen. The reason I had skipped the DVD was because it was a collection of musicals. Since I still didn't had power to go out, I decided to watch the musicals.

I stated watching the musical and soon realised that it was not just Bollywood but even Hollywood too specialised in boring its audience to death through songs and dance routines. I watched a musical for sometime, got bored to death and went to sleep.

I woke up at around 4:00 P.M. and made a Maggie for myself. After having Maggie, I decided to read a book. Unfortunately, the novel I had picked was competing with musicals to bore me to death. "Not bad", I said to myself,"I sure need some sleep." So read a few pages, got bored to death and went to sleep.

To sum up

A man is always motivated to do things that he likes most. This explains how I am able to avoid work and do nothing.
