About My Mediocrity — A Reply to all my Friends

My dear, dear friends,

Responding to all your heart-warming comments on my School Reunion post, particularly that part titled ‘Coming to Terms with My Mediocrity’, I have something to say:

My inner materialist is fairly strong and loud. He weighs my acquaintances on the money-power-success scale. It goes without saying that he weighs me on the same scale, and sometimes torments me by telling me that I’ve been found wanting… that I’m mediocre.

Most of the times, I tell this guy to shut up, and tell him that his scale is false, illusory. I tell him that there’s a lot more to life than becoming a high-net-worth individual or a CEO.

But this once, I decided to let my inner materialist have his say.

After all, one must be fair and democratic with ones inner demons too, right? Mustn’t suppress their voices, you know… because they too are God’s own creatures. And because ultimately, they too experience and express various aspects of the truth.

But thank you all for feeling the way you do. And thank you for all the nice things that you said about me.

Warm Regards,
Ghost

Yeah, Right about inner-voice. Strangely, I too feel this sometimes, saying not even mediocre, but that I am a” failure”…?!!! I felt it is time to do an introspection… this leaves me to a question: what I want from life…what I want to achieve in life…..

Oh dear FG, I do not think relative non affluence is mediocrity. Money, tons of it or fast cars cannot give you happiness in life, not that money is bad. But if you have no time to enjoy your money or weath along with your loved ones your money is useless. enjoy life with your wife and family. that is what counts, not your LSE degree or frequent flier pass or porche or even a dell lap top. What is important is how you enjoy your life. And do not forget that you do not enjoy with your body, it has to come from your mind and intellect. you have plenty of it, now do not complain.

Most of our demons are the sounds of our parents or peers…? It is our voice struggling with foreign voices. Sort of an independence struggle:) Or could it be that we are born with a love for the mammon or spirituality? Isn”t spirituality possible with all the creature comforts?

I guess I will feel so too and thank god for my hubby who shields me from these demons - I have none thanks to him! He must be battling some of his own Yikes!
