Friday, April 8, Mumbai: MMRDA is red-faced, having been caught out by RTI activist Sulaiman Bhimani who exposed its dirty doings with a score of big builders in 32 SRA projects of Mumbai. Bhimani’s RTI expose revealed that MMRDA was gifting a score of big builders at least Rs 640 crore of public money. The Chief Minister said yesterday that MMRDA has now been asked to get out of public housing, according to this report: http://tinyurl.com/CM-says-MMRDA-is-out

That must come a bad news to the builders, who were allowed to get away with murder when Ratnakar Gaikwad was Metropolitan Commissioner. After Mr Bhimani pointed out that the parking basements that RNA Corp was building at Oshiwara had no permissions, MMRDA issued a stop work notice. Bhimani recently learnt of the stop work notice from an RTI Reply (see red-circled para on last page): http://tinyurl.com/RTI-Stopwork
But, RNA’S CONSTRUCTION WORK AT THE SITE CONTINUES UNABATED, as these photos (attached) taken today show. High-resolution images here: http://tinyurl.com/RNA-pix-8Apr11
Bhimani has lodged complaints with MMRDA, including this one: http://tinyurl.com/Complaint-6Apr11
“Same old story of collusion” says Bhimani wrily. “MMRDA is turning a Nelson’s eye to the blatant violation of their stop-work notice, just as they have studiously avoided looking at all the illegalities committed by RNA Builders at Somani Gram.”
Blatant illegalities such as setting out to sell a 48 storey tower with layout permissions for only a 14-storey building. And enclosing a public road within their construction site fencing. RNA’s building site at Somani Gram, Oshiwara, is a nest of illegalities.
