PEACE

August 26, 2009 By: Category: Reflections

A cute little poem on PEACE which we are missing in today’s hectic lifestyle. Be at peace like the cute little kid. Have an enjoyable day.

Peace is our true nature,

let our everyday life be the song
from our souls to the whole world
as a gift of Love!
May we forgive the trespasses,
the pains and hurts,
the cruelty, the unkindness
done upon us or done by us,
and let harmony flow
from the river of tolerance,
brotherhood and service
into the ocean of compassion,
Loving kindness from
our noble hearts…

LONELINESS

August 24, 2009 By: Category: Life

Few wonderful lines which I came across and which I felt were worth sharing. Hope ganesh chathurthi went off well for you. Have a wonderful week ahead. Instead of sending flowers sending a cutie pie to take you through the day. Keep smiling like the cutie pie all through the week and enjoy.

When we are feeling unloved and

depressed and empty inside,

finding someone to give us love

is not really the solution.”
Gerald G. Jampolsky, M.D.

The emptiness and loneliness we sometimes feel

can cause us to look, with desperation,

for someone to fill us up.

Instead, if we can GIVE our love and attention

to another who is on the path with us,

we’ll notice the paradox…by touching the life of another,

we heal ourselves.

We all want to be important and significant to someone else…

and we are…to all those whose lives are intertwined with ours.

When we GIVE love, we heal two wounds: ours and theirs.

GROWTH

Every day can be a beautiful day.
Just take a look around you
and think about all of the
wonderful things you have
to be thankful for…
the
sunshine,
roses,
laughter,
close friends,
family,
music,
and beautiful dreams.

The storm is never half as bad as it seems.
Don’t let the rain ruin your day.
When the dark clouds move in
just smile,

because the good times
are on the way.

PRAYER

August 19, 2009 By: Category: Philosophy

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors not knowing what else to do, agree that they have no other recourse but to pray to God.

However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and! he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, there was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing..

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island.

The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God’s blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, “Why are you leaving your companion on the island?”

“My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them,”

The first man answered. “His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything.”

“You are mistaken!” the voice rebuked him. “He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings.”

“Tell me,” the first man asked the voice, “what did he pray for that I should owe him anything?”

“He prayed that all your prayers be answered.”
For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.

This is too good not to share…

“What you do for others is more important than what you do for yourself”

SPECIALISTS IN MEDICINE - LAUGH IT OUT

August 18, 2009 By: Category: Humour

Prescription

A doctor got a call from a very excited woman,
My son just swallowed the aspirins, what shall I do?
He replied, Give him a headache, what else?

Appendix

Once a doctor got a telephone call in the middle of night. The caller sounded very excited.
Doctor, please come at once. My wife is in great pain and I am sure it is appendicitis¿, he said.
The doctor assured him that there was no need to panic. I will come in the morning.
The man protested, But doctor, my wife is really serious.
The doctor replied, I took out your wife s appendix two years ago. She can not have another.
The caller protested, That is alright doctor, but now I have got another wife!

Emergency Call

Hurry! the doctor commanded his teenage daughter, Put my stethoscope and medicine box in my car. That was an emergency call from someone who says he will die if I do not turn up immediately.
Papa, that call was not for you but for me,¿ replied the girl saucily.

Constipation

An old lady went to her doctor to see what could be done about her constipation.
It’s terrible, she said, I haven’t moved my bowels in a week.
I see. Have you done anything about it? asked the doctor.
Naturally, she replied, “I sit in the bathroom for a half- hour in the morning and again at night.
No, the doctor said, I mean do you take anything?
Naturally, she answered, I take a book.

Don’t be Nervous

This older man was on the operating table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation.
As he was about to receive the anesthesia he asked to speak to his son.
Yes Dad, what is it?
Don’t be nervous, son, do your best and just remember, if it doesn’t go well, if something happens to me your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife.

First Visit

A young woman wasn’t feeling well, and asked one of her co-workers to
recommend a physician.
I know a great one in the city, but he is very expensive.
One thousand rupees for the first visit, and one hundred rupees for each one after that.¿
The woman went to the doctor’s office and, trying to save a little money,
cheerily announced, Iam back
Not fooled for a second, the doctor quickly examined her and said,
Very good, just continue the treatment I prescribed on your last visit.

HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAMS

August 17, 2009 By: Category: Reflections

a reflective thought which i came across in my group mails. Corelates to my earlier one on don’t quit. Just follow your dreams. have a wonderful week.

There is inside you

All of the potential
to be whatever you want to be;
All of the energy
to do whatever you want to do.

Imagine yourself as you would like to be,
doing what you want to do,
and each day, take one step
towards your dream.

And though at times it may seem

too difficult to continue,
hold on to your dream.

One morning you will awake to find
that you are the person you dreamed of,
doing what you wanted to do,
simply because you had the courage
to believe in your potential
and to hold on to your dream.

WHY PEOPLE SHOUT WHEN THEY ARE ANGRY

August 17, 2009 By: Category: Reflections

Sharing a wonderful conversation which I got on my bulletin board yesterday. I was in the mood which the conversation relates to.

A saint asked his disciples, ‘Why do we shout in anger?
Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?’

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, ‘Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.’

‘But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?’ asked the saint.
‘Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice?
Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?’

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the saint.

Finally he explained, ‘When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.’

Then the saint asked, ‘What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, why? Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small…’

The saint continued, ‘When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all.

That is how close two people are when they love each other.’

VALUE IN GIVING

August 11, 2009 By: Category: Reflections

There have been times when the kindness of

another person has changed your life for the better.

And it’s easy to see that kindness has

the power to reach far beyond itself.

In the most difficult of moments, kindness heals and reassures.

Kindnesses give comfort and hope where there was none before.

Kindness can inspire confidence.

It changes for the better the perspective of those it touches.
When you seek to make a difference,

kindness is a great Place to start.

Just the simple desire to give it is all you really must have.

So give kindness, freely and without hesitation.

Whether you get it back does not really even matter,

for its true value is in the giving.

Live with kindness, and you’ll always see

life’s very best possibilities.

For in kindness, is the heart of who you truly are.

REFLECTION - GRATITUDE

August 10, 2009 By: Category: Reflections

HiAfter a long hiatus from the iland, I am putting up a post at the behest of one of the few ilanders who has been in receipt of my posts through mail during my absence from iland. The ilander felt that I was depriving the other ilanders of the thoughts I have been sharing through mail. So here I am posting an article which I shared today. May not be regular over here but will keep posting once in a while.

Be the change you wish to see in the world…

Gratitude is contagious - you can catch it from other people and/or they can catch it from you. But you don’t spread gratitude by preaching or scolding or admonishing - you spread it by living it. For, as Gandhi wisely said,

“We must BE the change we wish to see in the world.”

A simple story illustrates my point:

According to legend, a young man, while roaming the desert, came across a
spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet he filled his
leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher.

After a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man who
took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student lavishly for the sweet water. The young man returned to his village with a happy heart. Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become stale because of the old leather container. The student challenged his teacher:

“Master, the water was foul. Why did you pretend to like it?”

The teacher replied,

“You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift”

The water was simply the container for an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter. Heartfelt gifts deserve the return gift of gratitude.

You teach gratitude to others by living it - every moment, every hour, every day. Others will see the happiness that gratitude brings, and soon, they, too will be grateful. And before you know it, you have started an epidemic of gratitude ' what could be more wonderful!

This is to reinforce and teach the power and magic of gratitude. To some, it may sound too simple to feel important, but if you can truly grasp this
powerful concept, it will change your life forever.

German poet, Johannes A. Gaertner said this:

“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is
generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven”
