GOOD vs BAD

Since my Last post on Pesticides in Colas,my mail box is getting filled with mails both from ilanders and non-ilanders.
These mails can be broadly classified into two kinds.
1) Cursing my position against colas . and
2) why the Title “BLUEGOLD“?
Befor getting in to the cola controversy, let me answer the second one.

BLUEGOLD is a stunning book by canadian hydrogeologist(or hydrologist ?)Maude Barlow.
The title is not the only inspiration for me. WATER-OUR LIFELINE is the main thing.
Tricky and political manipulation of water resources by the world private lobbies to make dollars, more dollars, more and more dollars. And the poor water management and distribution by the world governments and their ability to buckle to the pressure exerted by the MNCs are the main things which pulled me into this matter.Anyway Thanks to Mr.Maude Barlow.

COLA CONTROVERSY

Among these mails 90% of them questioning me ‘How dare you take a stand against colas?’
cursing me for putting the CSE findings on my post.
Before writing this post ,I thought most of the peoples mindset will be on my (anti -peticides in colas)side. But I’ve been slapped on my face for this unlawful thought. But I strongly believe these mails is not representing the general public’s view.As we all know its only the creamy layer of the society (20%) uses the Internet and Blog, In that case is these mails represents the remaining 80% ? Definitely Not.

As I opened the Box,I am obligated to respond each and everyone. That I’ll do later ,Sure.

Before that I am having some questions to the mailers. They need to answer these questions to their moral sense.

1) Since these colas have ZERO Nutritients,Why should we pay only for the pesticides they give?.On the other hand Milk, Water, etc are Essential foods and giving us the stuffs needed for our life,They can be given a quota of pesticides as against a Non-Nutritients like colas. This is said to be as POISON-NUTRITION TRADE-OFF.

2) Are Pesticides is for Farmers use,or us to Drink by giving a huge margin profit to others?

3) Drinking Cola is Individual’s right,But at the cost of what?
WATER is everyone’s right and these cola companies are Guzzling our waterand making question on our right. In that point drinking colas is offense or not?

4) Whether you can’t live without colas or AmirKhans or SalmanKhans? Is colas are a Life saving Medicines?

My Objective is very clear.Regulations and Standards are needed very urgently not only on colas but also on these cola companies workings and policies.

Bottom Line is to Ensure the overall Exposure of Indians to Different Contaminants was kept at safe levels.

Regulations and Standards Finalised by BIS must be NOTIFIED Immediately. So far Ministry of Family welfare and Health is playing a second FIDDLE to these cola companies.
WE THE PEOPLE, LETS NOT DO THE SAME.

After almost 2 years of negotiations ,BIS standards are pulled back strongly from NOTIFICATION by these MNCs because it was NOT in their interest to be regulated.

Let me finish with a words from Sunita Narains’s desk.
“Remember this is not just about colas or pesticides. It is about how we will regulate against the will of the world’s big and small corporations.Just remember this is about Food, what we eat and drink,It is about our Health, It is NON-NEGOTIABLE.

So, Friends Probably this is my last Post on this Subject ,Since I’ve a Lot to Study and write on other main issues on Labours, Reservation etc.So its all up to you guys, to drink or not to drink colas.
My Job is to Create awareness, and I am closing this with a immense satisfaction.

Yes - Cola may not be having any nutrient value. But as for pesticides, as per journals, it is in milk (to say, even in breast milk), fruits, vegetables etc. Its upto the individuals to drink cola or not, as you rightly said! The over use of pesticides in cultivation made earth absorb the toxin, and in turn it affects all the above fauna and the ”blue gold”(I liked the phrase!) too… I am sure nobody would add pesticides in colas … right?

    Cheers!

The final word on this is yet to be spoken. Yet, I would like to mention something interesting. Kerala, where I am from, banned the colas immediately [As usual with Kerala Govts., LDF or UDF, the particulars of the order is yet a matter of doubt!]. There were programs on Malayalam TV channels, asking the opinion of the general public. The opinions were generally neutral. None of those interviewed drank any colas and didn”t care if they were off the market. The reactions were never highly positive to the ban and never negative. This, it must be mentioned, was a cross section of society from the middle class. So, my point is, if the general market is not interested as such, does it matter in the general overall picture of our country? I think not…Anyway, good post, good defence.
