Freedom of Speech is not only expressing our views, it also includes the freedom to remain silent.
VANDE MATARAM is a National Song and is recognised as equivalent as our National Anthem.
We may take pride in singing , no doubt about it.
But, Just singing the song is no way going to feed your patriotic thirst, or non-singing should not be used to paint the particular person as Anti-National.
As a gesture to promote Communal Harmony the word “VANDE” in the song may be taken as a salutation rather than workship. But it is completely upto the people, to decide whether to sing or not to sing.Forcing the people against their wishes will only insult the song itself and also its author and its historical context.
So what is the point in singing Vande Mataram on september 7 ?
On September 7,1905, the congress activists sung the song in the All India Committee session at Varanasi, when the partition of Bengal about to occur. Our Constituent Assembly adopted Vande Mataram as the national Song on January 24,1950 which means January 24, 1950 would mark the conclusion of its centenary.
Who to blame now, Whether BJP for making the Recitation Compulsary in their ruling states or
HRD Minister Mr.Arjun Singh for triggering the Debate.

Good One.
It’’s a political Game. We are all Patriotic Guys. Let’’s forget about this Stupid Politics and let our Patriotism live always.
Nice blog, ezhil. Well tell me how many people sing the song with real patriotic emotions nowadays or with respect ? Our foreparents fought for this freedom that has been literally misused&still being misjustified. I wish all these miserable people could live under that pre-freedom stress period. Keep up your good work, ezhil.
It is a pity that in TN, a lot of people knew what the song meant only after AR Rehman sang and composed music for the song. But I agree that in a pluralistic society such as ours, nothing should be forced. But I guess we need at some time some national symbol, something that we can call pan- India.
I agree. We are too eager to compel something or other on people.
great blog.. i””m with you on these issues..Where is a compulsion to be true to our country, where is the compulsion to be patriotic to our country, where is the compulsion to be faithfull to our country,& the list goes on The song does not talks about religion under any pretext, it is just about saluting our great country
i am not a patriot…i have my own opinion on nation states…..but vandemataram is song of inspire this and still inspiring…..will inspire…….

i”m with ya on these issues..
Where is a compulsion to be true to our country,
where is the compulsion to be patriotic to our country,
where is the compulsion to be faithfull to our country,
& the list goes on …………………
Dear friend, no one has compelled u to follow any of the above things, but u still r one of them, right !!. There r few things which cannot be left at the sole discreetion of democratic rights of our country, the song does not talks about religion under any pretext, it is just about saluting our great country, please do under-estimate any religion for that matter they r all very strong & matured enough to feel shortened against a national song……..cheers bhushan
Well said…. I feel that no one can force things on anyone. So let mankind be a judge for himself. If he wants to recite he will, else he should remain silent and give respect to the Nation who is respecting the place they live and the history it carries.
