A RIVER’S LIFE!
As I walked on the mighty glacier
that went on to create our majestic river…
its tightly bound ice now so hard!
I wondered if it knew
what it would soon metamorphose into?
As I ambled past the babbling brook
that leaped gently over the tiny pebbles…
its pure waters now clear as crystal!
I wondered if it knew
how much power it had sheathed within itself?
As I looked at the fast flowing river
that raced rapidly down the hills to the plains…
its whirlpools and eddies now so rough!
I wondered if it knew
what all it would soon sustain and nurture?
As I stood by the still waters of the wide river
that meandered slowly past the gullies and gorges…
its depths now teeming with fresh water fish!
I wondered if it knew
how its taste was soon going to change?
As I stared at the mudbanks of the creek
that was rich in sediments of salt and silt and sand…
its salinity now supporting mangroves!
I wondered if it knew
what further changes were in store for it?
As I gazed at the vast expanse of the ocean
that crashed in and rushed back endlessly…
its depths now supporting myriad forms of life!
I wondered if it knew
what had been its purpose in life?
