YOU….

The reason for my joys and tears,
Cause of my crazy disposition and cheerz,
I blink my eyelid and can feel your warmth,
Reason for my joy and mirth,
You can make me cry and say its over,
Yet give my flaws a cozy cover,
No one can come close to what you are,
I smile but my heart’s still got a scar….

Book Review: Almost Single - By Advaita Kala

Just one of those days when I feel I need some extra dose
of chick-flick type of reading, I lay my hands on this rib-
tickling book by Adavita Kala. Specially recommended
for men/women on wrong side of thirty and are clearly
unapologetic about it. Also, highly recommended
for ladies who are single and are tackling various extrinisic
and intrinsic forces in the pursuit of that ‘perfect marital bliss’.
The book delves deeper into the world of hotels, their employees,
their lives, quirks and eccentricities with some amount of Punjabi
flavored humour thrown in. The protagonist of the novel - Aisha
Bhatia, cosmopolitan lover, can name the best wines of the world
with great elan, has a thing for parties, cheese and cocktail dinners,
dwells on her two choicest female buddies - Misha and Anushka
who stick by each other come rain or a bright sunny day. Advaita’s
fresh aproach to feminist humour gets you rolling specially
terms like “umbilical whiplash” - classic case of confrontations
between a mother all set to wed her daughter and an extra-smart
daughter who just knows what’s on her mother’s mind. The book
also takes a healthy metro look at bonding between friends who
agree to agree and disagree when required with just the right
kind of understanding and zest for life.
Funny, eclectic in in style and setup, pepped with loads of funny
moments between friends, their social lives. A must for those who
thrive in metros for top-notch careers and seek solitude in friends
and friendship.

In Retrospect…..

I am penning down my musings after a really long time. Its been quite a reflective quarter. There are some times where you just cannot help but reflect, ponder, soak in some good, some not so good and some ugly moments. Do I have a control and can I bounce back the problems like mighty herculean?Certainly not! Infact I have my own doubts. Can I counter a boss who understands only numbers and cannot read your sulking face when your one day’s leave gets rejected on lame reasons of business optimization. Might be Hari Sadu’s long lost brother I grumble!! Can there be more than one Friday in a week? Tough luck mate! Can we do something about global warming and the snarling traffic of Bangalore. SOS! I just read the newspaper and ponder over Arushi’s case. CBI is still racking and tossing the tiniest of ‘hope’ which can turn around the case. How can anybody not be taken away by the innocence of Arushi’s face? How can someone be heinous to stoop down and commit such a cold blooded murder? I ponder and ponder over. God! Where are thou? Hope you are seeing the gory crime, the misery and grief spread in abundance.

But we all got to play our roles and be the proper person we can if not the perfect ones. One life, one dream, one moment which never comes by again. You got to live it and live it completely. Lost in solitude I just stare at the tiny droplets of morning dew dropping from a lush green leaf (a scene which I watch umpteen number of times and cherish the most). Pop pats on my back and there I smell by freshly brewed cuppa coffee. Thank God for small mercies. The feeling of tiny joyous moments -PRICELESS. I quickly go through my book collection and thump the dust away with my palm. Cough a little bit. Guess the dust particles were retaliated by my city-bred pollution allergic system. There was this old poem I had scribbled on the last page of this book as recited by Robert Frost. It still makes me smile. Albeit a bit  wider this time.

Stopping by woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there’s some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Book Review: Keep Off The Grass - By Karan Bajaj

The novel has an honest attempt - to make you laugh till your sides ache. The
book is replete with humor, laughter and funny one-liners which keep you on the edge
to the last word read. Certainly this one tickles your funny bone.
The novel’s protagonist Samrat Ratan, son of second generation US immigrants
chooses to leave hot shot investment banking, debonair and drug addicted lifestyle,
nostalgic friendship and plush shores of US only for a sinlge minded pursuit which
catches him unawares - desire to search for his roots in the country where he was
born, India.
The decison triggers off a rollercoaster ride with Samrat enroling himself
at IIM - Bangalore only to embark on a hilarious action packed journey
much to his curiosity and amazement. The journey unfolds weird
and nerve wrecking experiences - being arrested and spending reflective
moments in a prison cell in Bangalore, strange encounter with the flesh
eating cannibal Aghori sect saints on the ghats of Benares, bizzare one-
night stand with a Dannish hippie at Dharamshala. The icing on the cake
is the camaraderie and warmth which he shares with his IIM friends - Sarkar
and Vinod who tread along the rocky yet introspective journey only to conquer
and emerge victorious out of the two year b-school program which is supposedly
the mother of all.
Pieces to be watched out for in the novel are the philosophical theories
and one-liners which are spewed in abundance by Samrat, Sarkar and Vinod.
The honesty, quirky reactions and confessions of Samrat’s character clearly holds the
fort and gives an autobiographical tinge to the storyline. For those on the lookout for
laughter, entertainment, glimpses of b-school life alongwith liberal doses of
soul searching, spirituality and quarter-life crisis, this is one novel which should not be
missed out.
Rating: 3.5 / 5

Dream on . .

You nurture a tiny impossible dream

Some call you a 'maverick' .

You smile and stay quiet .

Some deviate your inspiration

You choose to ignore .

Its there in the deeper labrynth of your mind

In the warm cockles of your heart .

In the deepest chasm of your being .

You rationalize .

Ponder over .

Some offer sagacious advise

Ward you off .

You recline and decline

Your inner voice retaliates

Tis' faith mate .

Spirit gloriously triumps .

Accept it Grow it .

Love it Enjoy it .

Fortify your instincts and actions….

Sustain and survive

Whimper falter

Just stay there

Ignore if you wish to

But don't kill .

Reaffirm with values .

Grow with a witty quote

Seek much required inspiration

Flourish and bloom

Amidst the fallible moves and moments…

Like the endless bounties of sunflower farms

Nurture with a pat on the back .

Impediments come and they surely go

And then stealthily pass by

The only pursuit which remains

Is your dream ..

Azure waves and ugly cliff…

Azure effervescent waves,
Lash against the ugly deformed cliff,
Violent gigantic volleys of water,
Bashing comes nature’s fury,
Cliff withstands the torrential storm,
Holds ground against the maverick wind,
Embraces ferocious crimson fire,
Greedy passer-by’s pierce writings,
Huge thickets conquer the ugly cliff,
Get charred in the burning pyre,
Ugly cliff stands there calm amd composed,
Seasons pass by,
Invasions go on and off,
Slowly and steadily,
Leaving behind a beautiful sculpted boulder…..

The New Spirit

Kindles a spark

Enthuses the spirit

Fires your imagination

A reason to smile and ponder..

A fresh perspective

Rejuvenated effort

Enlightened and engaged

Evolved and mature…

Usher into the New

Forget and if possible forgive the past

Embrace the future

For .”Hope is Life”

Here's wishing all my I-lander friends a very Happy New Year!

May the spirit of New Year enlighten every aspect of your life!!

May there be love, joy, prosperity and happiness in abundance!!!

Healthy Contradiction .

Believing in commitment more than love

Palpable feelings instead of diplomatic smiles

Liking grey over black-o-white .

Enjoying silence over garrulous sessions

Listening to Heart more often than the mighty Head

Adjusting rather than whining and retaliating

Taking a step or two to introspect than going full steam

Choosing a silent prayer over mindless pursuits

Loving oneself for the moment than living for others

Just giving in for the sake of giving up

Learning to be a precocious being than an ignorant one

Appreciating tiny tender gestures over bigger shallow manifestations

Appreciating pain for the sake of liking pleasure

Embracing wrong side for protecting the truth

Wallowing in others sorrows than joy-giving reasons

Sharing a meaningful relation Tis’ about soul satisfaction .

A book called

This was almost 3 years back when Anki was travelling on her maiden journey

to Singapore. My Sis and Bro-in-law were paranoid because they did not know

how she would handle the food there and whether her health would co-operate

with the weather, water et al.

Needless to say after lot of deliberations, the tickets were booked. Anki was a 4 year

old kid at that time and was barely out of her playschool. She pranced up and down the

staircase near the gate all set with her furry bag with a tiny rabbit plonked on it. She

was all set for her “vacation”. Wanting to irritate her some more, I began throwing

improptu questions at her which she answered with great amount of thought and grace.

“Where are you going Anki?”

“I am going to Singapore!”

“Wow! Quite a nice place. Is this closer to Hyderabad!!”

“God! Pachi, you don’t know anything??”

She slammed her tiny hand on her head.

I was trying hard to control my laughter.

“Why? Its not close to Hyd huh??”

“No Pachi, it's a different country!!”

My girl is irritated now. Let me push my luck a little more.

“I see! Hmmm..Even I want to travel Anki!!”

“You can Pachi! Its very simple!”

“Is it?? Tell me naa!!”

“See it goes like this. All you need is a book called Passport. If you have it, you can

go to any country!!!!”

I laughed aloud and gave her a bearhug. To this date, the tiniest glimpse of passport

tickles my funny bone.

Tag Post: Light an Eye: Only If….

Only If

The rainbow and its myriad hues,

I can sense the beauty,

But can't soak it in my eyes,

Only if .

Love the chocolate cake,

Wish I could enjoy the color,

Of the sinfully rich mass!

Only if .

My soulmate and beloved,

Wish I could confess,

In a million words,

How much I love you

Only if

Adore my two angels,

My Ma and Pa,

The only wish to God,

To ponder and spend a lifetime,

Glaring at them with gratitude,

Only if

World's most pristine creation,

Emerald legacy of nature,

Alas! Can't submit to the heavenly shower!

Coz my world is BLACK.

This post is dedicated to millions of folks spread over the world who

are blessed with the highest sensibility, yet can’t experience the glory of

nature’s beauty. I recall as a child having donated my eyes in my "wish file" preaching the mankind to donate the pair for a worthy noble cause. Thanks to my friend Cyril Paul (Cyril ' Apologies for the very long wait) for tagging me for a cause in which I personally believe a lot.

I specially appreciate this because this is one gesture which is very close to my heart.

Recently, at my office mass donation cum pledge camp I happened to pledge my eyes. The best part is one can donate a pair which will be donated to 2 individuals. The eyes require to be expelled within 6 hours of death. One can donate eyes irrespective of blood group, blood type, diabetes, cataract, blood pressure, etc. We all would perish some day in the bosom of mother earth, what remains is the legacy you leave behind. For those who have already done it, thank you! For those, you intend to plan it some day, please don't wait! For those who are pondering over it! Mate, buck up! This is the moment!!

From my end, I tag 4 of my i-land buddies, Vidhya, Deepa, Nischal, Vishal, Rajesh and Divvy!
