Book Review: Almost Single - By Advaita Kala

Just one of those days when I feel I need some extra dose
of chick-flick type of reading, I lay my hands on this rib-
tickling book by Adavita Kala. Specially recommended
for men/women on wrong side of thirty and are clearly
unapologetic about it. Also, highly recommended
for ladies who are single and are tackling various extrinisic
and intrinsic forces in the pursuit of that ‘perfect marital bliss’.
The book delves deeper into the world of hotels, their employees,
their lives, quirks and eccentricities with some amount of Punjabi
flavored humour thrown in. The protagonist of the novel - Aisha
Bhatia, cosmopolitan lover, can name the best wines of the world
with great elan, has a thing for parties, cheese and cocktail dinners,
dwells on her two choicest female buddies - Misha and Anushka
who stick by each other come rain or a bright sunny day. Advaita’s
fresh aproach to feminist humour gets you rolling specially
terms like “umbilical whiplash” - classic case of confrontations
between a mother all set to wed her daughter and an extra-smart
daughter who just knows what’s on her mother’s mind. The book
also takes a healthy metro look at bonding between friends who
agree to agree and disagree when required with just the right
kind of understanding and zest for life.
Funny, eclectic in in style and setup, pepped with loads of funny
moments between friends, their social lives. A must for those who
thrive in metros for top-notch careers and seek solitude in friends
and friendship.
