My Identity

The very first day I opened my eye,
Disconsolate, mourn whispers afloat….

Grown up all these years, neglected and dejected,
Unanswered questions are always searched…..

Why am I brought to this earth,
If I am a burden and exists not to worth………

Why am I treated like a criminal,
For an uncommitted crime, of being a girl……….

Why my brother has all the privileges,
And I am the one on whom you take out the grudges……….

I was elated to see the outer world,
Little did I know, I would go through slew of tortures……

What harm have I caused, then why am I punished,
Cos I am born as a part of your flesh and blood……

It was not my fault, but it was your wish,
Deliberatly,desired attention for me relinquish…..

Mommy, you are also a daughter of someone,
Adored with passion and bred with affection….

I am weaken now from the desolation,
Greedy to embrace you, I am your creation….

You owe me, for years I am thirsty,
In quest of your Love, Sanguinity and my Identity……..

The above lines project the agony of an unwanted girl child. Although she is alive yet she struggles to survive. This is an added effort from my end as many ilanders are voicing on ‘The plight of girl child.’

I fully empathise with the agony of the post.Just founf a lil loophole though..

Mommy, you are also a daughter of someone,
Adored with passion and bred with affection….

The pain inflicted on the girl child is not a thing of this age but has been a deplorable practice since ages, so there is no reason to believe that the mother was treated any differently or more affectionately than today’’s girl child.Sadly, women are the worst enemy of women.Think about it..

Pooja, its a beautiful poem bringing such a burning issue afore… How very true.. the fate of the girl child is reflected in the statistics as declined sex ratio and our day today examples of life that see, expereince and feel.. The consequences will have to faced by the coming genrations…

hmm quiet a serious issue..tackled so simply and beautifully…i just feel its the woman whos doing bad to other…..if we as girls/women take a stand tht we wont dominate our daughters/daughter inlaws and discriminate between son n daughter…we cud achieve a fair world for girls…and tht i think is quiet a task…bcoz just as a woman cud make or break the house…she can make or break the opposite woman…we need to change first..nice post
