FULLNESS BY EMPTYING — (2)

May 31st, 2008

If everything is God and all is love, then where is life heading to ?    Life is heading towards perfection. You look for perfection ; that is why you are angry at imperfections. There are three kinds of perfection :  Perfection in action or KRIYA, in speech or VACHAN , in feelings or BHAAV.

Suppose someone makes a mistake and when you see that you get angry. Then you are no better than the person who has made the mistake. Your feelings have become imperfect because of  someone’s imperfection in action. Any action will have some flaw. But when the feeling becomes imperfect, then it stays for a longer period. Inner perfection is lost.

Spitiual practices help you to maintain your centredness and remain unshaken by small events. Every individual is bestowed with all the virtues. They simply get covered by lack of understanding and stress.   Just uncover the virtues that are already there. Breathing techniques and meditation are effective in calming the mind.  Learning something about our breath is important. Our breath has a great lesson to teach us, which we have forgotten.

Handling the mind directly is difficult. For every emotion in the mind, there is a corresponding rhythm in the breath and for every rhythm in the breath there is a corressponding emotion. Knowing this, and learning various breathing  techniques will allow you to deal with mind and emotions effectively.

Oue mind is like a pot that is turned upside down.  When we were born , the pot came first with the neck upright. The whole purpose of life is to stand up, turn the pot upside down and empty it. But the pot is filled with something very sticky ; though it is standing upside down, it dosen’t  get empty. Becoming hollow or empty is the whole purpose of life.

The world would be free of trouble if there were no love. Without love, you can’t be jealous. Greed comes because you love objects too much. Anger is because you love perfection ; imperfections anger you. You love yourself too much and that’s why you are proud and arrogant.

It is not love per se but the distortion of love that causes problems, yet life will have no meaning without love. Suppose you are immensely successful and have all the riches at your command but love is missing from your life. Life will not really be worthwhile ; it would appear dry and barren. All we really long for in life is love ; a divine love. The purpose in life is to blossom in that ideal love.

So how do you get to that point of love where it is free from distortions and you are at ease with yourself ? LOVE WITH KNOWLEDGE , understanding that it is your ego that’s obstructing you from innocent love . Ego is like a dream. You can’t call a dream real, neither you can call it unreal because you have had the experience.

To be egoistic is to be unnatural. The ego is not a substance ; it is a non-substance like darkness.Darkness is only lack of light or abscence of light. You could say ego is just abscence of maturity or the lack of pure knowledge.

Knowledge is an aid to develop your innermost state, which is love. LOVE  is a state of being rather than an act. We are all made up of love. When the mind is in the present moment, we are in a state of  LOVE.  So live in the present moment.

Find The Balance

YOGA or union is the culmination of spiritual practice and not merely the practice itself

The perfection of the imperfect is to be achieved before union is possible. The core of the training is cleaning of the samskaras enveloping the soul, meditating on the light in the heart and daily prayer. With regular practice, the mind becomes pure and healthy. This is when you need a spiritual master.

In spritual training, transmission is important. A spiritual master has the capacity to transmit yogic or life energy from his own centre of existance to the centre of existance of another individual, the spiritual seeker or disciple.

When the transmission takes place, the practitioner is filled with a force higher than himself and his evolution of progress becomes not only speedier but also independent of his own capacity for progress. You can experience growth without limitations. With the guru’s power, all past impressions or samskaras that crowd the mind are erased. The mind is not controlled, it is regulated. The mind is made to focus on a single subject ; intruding thoughts drop-off.

In economic terms, the practitioner’s first fruit is increased productivity, zero-defect work and quick learning. They become better administrators, managers, businessmen and employees with-out losing sight of the human, ethical aspects. Such practitioners are transformed into better human beings. Meditation helps the seeker experience the highest degree of  transformation.

To experience all this there is only one way ! Practice and  experience that higher state. It is said that, to experience swimming you should simply start swimming. You have to be willing to try.

KNOW YOUR WORTH

May 26th, 2008

Dear Friends just think and contemplate……

* Women bear hardships and they carry burdens, yet they spread happiness, love and joy…..

* They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice. They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.

* They go without… so their family can have… . They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.

* They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when you think they have no streangth left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal.

* They’ll drive, fly, walk, run, phone or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world go round…. . They bring joy and hope. They have compassion and ideas. They give moral support to family and friends. Women have vital things to say and everything to give.

*  WHAT’S AMAZING IS THAT WOMEN ARE UNAWARE OF THEIR WORTH.

Worried Sick ?

Are you one of those who fix an appointment with the doctor for every bout of nausea or get a CT scan done at the hint of a headache ? If the answer is yes, then you are actually suffering from something serious. It’s called Orthorexics, or health perfectionism in common parlance. A health perfectionist is a person obsessed with his/her own health. There are various issues pertaining to such an obsession, which might cause numerous side - effects, one such extreme being pathological in nature.

“Sadness which dose’t get a vent in tears makes the organs cry. This sums up the underlying pathology of health perfectionism. It’s seen in people who find it difficult to express emotions or talk things out. They fail to recognise conflicts or interpersonal problems in their lives. As general emotional distress is not dealt with, it expresses itself physically, some times even after many years.” says Dr.Jyoti Sangle, psychiatrist, Dr. L.H.Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai.

According to Dr.Bhavna Burmi, senior clinical psycologist,Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi.”Being a health perfectionist can cost you a great deal and it’s important to be aware of the problems that it can lead to.Perfectionists are likely to experience decreased productivity, impaired health, troubled interpersonal relationships and low self-esteem. They are vulnerable to depression, performance anxiety, compulsiveness, suicidal thoughts, lonliness, impatience, frustration and anger.”

HOW TO CRUSH THE DOUBT :

* Identify the connection between obsessional thoughts and impulses.

* Engage in anxiety managemant

*Engage in relaxation therapy to control stress levels

* Keep a check on suicidal thoughts

* Tackle the tendency to fall into depression

* Get engaged in activities to avoid loneliness

* Stay in regular contact with a healthcare provider

Learning while Laughing

May 24th, 2008

In Kerala, as in some other regions, sanskrit theatre under-went a transformation, thanks to the encouragement of the then rulers, the perumals. In the dance-drama Subhadra Dhanamjayam, three principal charecters  –  Arjuna, Subhadra and the Vidushaka  –  were protrayed on stage, in theatres called Koothambalams located mostly in large temples. The dance-drama that developed in Kerala was called Koodiatam, which means dancing together.Since charecters in Koodiatam spoke in Sanskrit, the vidushaka conversed in the local vernacular Malayalam so that most of the audience could understand. Whatever the vidushaka said or did would provoke hearty laughter during the koodiatam performance.

To address a wider audience un-familiar with sanskrit, an offshoot from koodiatam popularly known as chakyar koothu came into existence. The charecters for chakyar koothu are vidushakas who are solo performers. With the minimum of sanskrit prose and poetry the vidushaka expands each word to weave a story fabric in malayalam, which is understood by every one in the audience. In his narrations, which are often dramatic and exaggerated, the aim is to bring out the inherant absurdities in human nature. The idea is the listeners will naturally correct themselves if they have such weakness or deficiencies in them. It is like making you learn after you’ve had a good laugh  –  metaphorically, sweetening a bitter pill.

Dry presentation of spiritual values may not be easily assimilated and may often appear boring to the listener and hence the recourse to humour and mirth. Homour makes life more interesting and livable. Today we have laughter clubs all over.Whenever spritually eminent personalities have spoken and even though the audience sits peacefully and silently, the intensity of the interest is often missing. The meeting are more like ceremonial ritual.

Spiritualism, whether it is Vedantic, or Yogic or devotional, can be better imbibed with a dose of humour, free of the profane or obscene. One need not act serious or appear glum while immeresed in a serious sublect like spiritualism.

Gravity and humour are not antipathic to each other. They can, and they should, coexist, so that one can not only learn to laugh but learn while laughing.

Much Nothing

Friends Just Think about This and CONTEMPLATE.

We have bigger houses, but smaller families, more conviniences, but less time.

We have more knowledge, but less judgements, More experts, but more problems; more medicenes, but less health.

We have been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.

We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication.

We have become long on quantity, but short on quality. These are times of fast foods, but slow digestion, tall men but short charecter, steep profits, but shallow relationships.

It is a time when there is much in the window, but nothing in the room.

The clock says every minute is precious. The mirror says reflect before you act. The calender says be up-to-date. The door says push. The lamp says illuminate your mind by education.

Listen to what the things around are trying to tell you to achieve greater heights of success.
