Kyati was one of the most beautiful in the college.Boys swooned over her & would follow her to the bus stop on her way back home.A couple of them had even proposed to her ,but she never bothered,she would just laugh them off.A brilliant student,khyati was very clear about her goal in life and always got a first class in college.
Her father ran a small cloth shop.Her mother stitched saree falls to supplement the income.For years khyati watched her father go to the shop every morning,return late,have dinner and sleep while her mother pressed his feet.— not once did he chat with his wife or ask about khyati and her younger brother’s education.She felt poverty had claimed all their emotions and decided she would be wealthy one day.
When she finished college,her parents set about looking for a boy but she refused all of them.Her mother taunted her,”you think you will get a prince?”…Little did she know that Khyati was indeed waiting for one.
Pankaj returned from abroad after comleteing his MBA.His father was a wealthy businessman who owned a fleet of cars,and had a army of servants.Pankaj only lacked a girl in his life,till he saw Khyati. He thought she was more beautiful than he desired. The two got married in a pompous ceremony and went to Switzerland for a honey-moon.
In the one month they spent there,something strange happened every evening.Pankaj complained of uneasiness and retired for the night. He refused to show a doctor. They returned to Ahmedabad and Pankaj got busy at work.When he returned from work he would avoid Khyati. She thought he wanted to say something.
One day when the two were alone she asked him up front. He put his head on her lap and cried and said,”forgive me, but we can never have a physical relationship”,Khyati felt betrayed and cried,but decided to act normal. Pankaj was heavy with guilt. One day he spotted Khyati chatting with Rajesh,a young and handsome manager in his office.She looked very happy.Pankaj had an idea.He began to call Rajesh home for work more often and sometimes would disappear.
On one occasion Rajesh was invited for dinner,before dinner Pankaj offered him some whisky and they drank on the terrace,Khyati also joined them. Suddenly Pankaj asked Rajesh,”will you do me a favour?” Khyati looked at him,but Pankaj kept talking to Rajesh,”sometimes nature is unfair to some people…..”,he said holding Khyati’s hand.Khyati understood where he was headed to and tried to stop him. But Pankaj pleaded,” I need a child and I am giving Khyati to you”,he said and drove off. The next morning when he returned,Khyati looked apprehensive.He pulled her close and said,”There is nothing like sin,we are only correcting a mistake by GOD”. Soon Khyati gave birth to a son.Pankaj was delighted and never asked Khyati about that night. He was a great father.
The boy is now in college and only Khyati knows who the real father is.
