Thanks, and yes ! I too am safe. Considering that 200 lives were lost in a city of 20 million, the probability of getting hit is less than One in One Hundred Thousand :) So, its not Luck, but probability that saves us..again and again, till our time is up :)

We are looking at art and in particular nudity in art as a form and its acceptability, value, appreciation in the social, psychological, aesthetic and even moral spheres. Do peep in when you have time and give your take on the picture that accompanies my poem Nostalgia. You may describe your feelings and interpretations freely. Or you may decline. This exercise is to study a painting, art as an expression and accessory; and to understand the importance of the subject (in this case the nude) as a tool of enhancement and controversy. LL

Thanks for sharing the link PetroDollar_1_.pdf . One has read a lot about there being much more more to the Iraq war than the stated excuse of helping the democractic process in that country. But this bit about the link between US dollars and petrol was indeed quite something new. No wonder the presidential candidate Obama was stressing so much about energy conservation and taking up off shore drilling towards meeting their own needs. You should post this afl.

  29. amit goel says

LL, you have been so consistently benign and charitable. I thank you for your kind words, which are more expressions of your sentiments than any valid appreciation. As I kept on saying, there were fault lines in my blog. Afl has brilliantly captured them all, and based on these if you now rewrite the whole stuff maybe there will be some coherent thought on the subject I tried to initiate. // Well, the ides for this came several years ago. There was a TIME essay on agnosticism, and that inspired me to write a short piece which I had then called, “Man, Science and God”. In that I had concluded that Science was the Bridge between Man and God. But then too the fault lines were troubling me. As afl rightly mentions, nature evolved by itself, it did not follow any science, but the science was discovered by Man based on understanding of the natural processes. Afl’s tongue in cheek obssrvation, “why are we clamoring to say the product designed and developed by Man’s intellect knowledge is …

Light does not normally escape a black hole, but in the present case it appears that a lot of heat does :)

  31. amit goel says

Thanks for your exhaustive views. As for JP, I see him only as the rallying point of 1979; dont agree with his socialistic views, as much as i differ with Nehruvian model, though i love the man (but not the dynasty). Good to hear the words Social Inequality again, hope this gets the attention it requires, otherwise economic miracles will remain just that- miracles for the magicians who hold the key, entertainment for those who saw it happen, but a gloom for those whose coin was made to disappear and never come back// I enjoy your remarks- both serious and tongue in cheek. Perhaps in an otherwise prefectly spicy island what is missing are streaks of humour, though one has to concede there is enuff brilliance; we can perhaps do with less :)

  32. amit goel says

Well, I wanted to give my views abt JP…JP in pre- independence and for a short time post 1947 too was apparently quite different to what he became after the Emergency. Then, in the inspired moment, history found him to lead a tottering opposition which was losing its courage and voice. Unmindful of his dialysis, he emerged as a bold figure and a rallying point for the entire country. The impact was dramatic. Such an event has not taken place again, and its my opinion that the time needs it now.

  38. Sarath Chandra says

BTW, I don’t think we should think of people as greats and mediocore etc while talking. Let’s just make the points and let the others decide whether it makes sense to them. The rest doesn’t matter (in my opinion). At least, I did not think yours was “noise” (???), only that you held yourself back because, what it seems like, you are too humble (??), to put it nicely :)

  39. Sarath Chandra says

That is cute, afl; I almost am tempted to go there and with Nadira’s prodding it seems I cannot escape it. If you were a girl, I don’t think I would have waited even this long :) obviously (?).

Anyway, I think, we are all missing one very important point here. Our relationships are not like marriage; we have the option to temporarily split, think about stuff, and make a comeback. With almost all my friends I had fights that lasted months and lack of communications for years, and when a “need” arises we really know where to look, and it is like nothing actually matters. These things help, in my opinion. At least, they did to me. Anyway, let me see what I can do over at Lissome’s.

  40. Sarath Chandra says

Thanks for your inspirational comments on my latest. I will try to remember the relevant ones in future scenarios :)

Communication plays an important role in a marriage as does self respect and respect for the spouse. If both can amicably agree to disagree on some things, life will be less stressful. T

  46. LL Style says

On second thoughts, LL. I feel I must apologise for my outburst. Actually, last night my wife snubbed me saying I am a selfish guy. In frustration I came here and said all that. Actually, I have had a disturbed childhood and been troubled by its painful memories. A father who would return late at night, totally drunk, from God knows where and a frustrated mom who would take it out all on us. As a result, I developed this attitude towards women in general. So I guess when I see you so strongly and wisely demolishing the opponents, the complexities within me rise up and I start feeling uncomfortable. The fact is that being a person with many complexes, I am scared to face myself bluntly and therefore prefer to hide behind anonymous masks. At times I simply hate myself for such cowardly acts. Thanks for making me realise the serious deficiencies within me.

  47. LL Style says

    8. She might be a revolutionary thinker but her blindness to her own flaws makes her ideas impotent. In the age of free thinking, she wants to demolish dissent. And no one needs to study Psychology 101 to know that anyone behaving this way is insecure in her own position.

If LL wants you to accept her words without a valid reason, you can put to test what I say and then only accept it.

How to test : On any topic, not for the sake of a debate, but where you wholeheartedly disagree with LL’s views, try a debate against her. She will use all the tricks in her bag to demolish you, sadly she should only be demolishing your argument and not you.
If you agree with her, you get rewarded. If you don’t, you get punished. What kind of teacher is that?

*Why believe me? Read LL’s arguments and visit the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy and see for yourself.
At the bottom of the page are links to what I added above.

  48. LL Style says

    LL’s argument style
I have been watching how LL behaves on iland for the past 3 months and here I present LL’s style.

    1. Her posts contain radical ideas touching many contemporary topics.
    2. She says she is always open to debates.
    3. And people wholeheartedly join these.

    But

    4. She does not know how to debate fairly.
    5. In the middle of a debate, if anyone says that she is a teacher and has a reputation in the non-virtual world, does that mean her logic is correct? - *An appeal to authority
    6. In a debate, no one starts name calling and character analysis. That is totally out of scope of the debate, but this is exactly what she does. The proper way is to oppose (not ridicule) the argument and not the speaker - *An ad hominem argument
    7. She or her supporters (in the debate) are ready to introduce different topics in her debates but she will totally forbid her opponents to do the same, ridiculing their mental age comparing it to a child - *An ad hominem argument

Posted one on our convo and empty optimism. check it out. :)

  50. Lissome Lady says

Paranoid?Situation is not bad? let me give you some facts son. There are 456 million or 42% of India living under the poverty line of 1.25 dollars a day and constitute 33% of the global poor. 75% or 828 million live under 2 dollars a day. This figure is greater than sub saharan africa. Those in my view is a state of extreme and fatal disease for a country. Dotn go by the bollywood and nuke deals and ambani and mittals being amongst the world’s richest. Tanik ek nazar hamari besaharo par dalo - cry cry cry the beloved country! Pessimistic? Check out all your fancy words like optimism, capability etc agains the scenario above and hang your head in shame. Mine is hung.
