Hi Friends! All my Hindu friends are observing the Pitru Paksha (also known as Shraddh period), a fortnight dedicated purely to offer Pooja and Prasad to the departed souls of the family, our ancestors. It is believed that our ancestors get those offerings and bless us during this fortnight. People generally defer the purchasing of house and cars and refrain from performing any auspicious ceremonies at home during Shraddh Period. Just a few years back I was surprised to know that this period carries some more features than merely offering Pooja and Prasad. It may sound a bit weird and I don’t know whether to believe this or not, but yeah, it’s something interesting one should know. We all know that our soul takes many births. What we are today, were not in our last incarnation and will not be in our next one either. Every incarnation our soul takes, it is sure to leave the material body one day or the other. If our descendants of that incarnation perform these holy rituals during this period or on the day we died in that incarnation; our soul feels enriched. Please pay attention here my friends, these rituals are performed for the soul and not for the physical body but when we die our soul carries the memories of that incarnation with it. So the soul recognizes the rituals but our physical body doesn’t. Have you ever experienced this miracle- that you are trying very hard to achieve something, you are very sincere in putting in your efforts but you aren’t getting it? Or you try your level best still don’t get the desired result and you literally give up, but one fine day it comes to you on its own as if it was made only for you? If yes, then believe me it may have happened that in some of your incarnation you died on that particular day and your descendants just offered a prayer to your soul or when you offered a prayer to your ancestors they just blessed you and their blessings came down in this form. This is really not something which we all will digest on the face value of it but please do give it a thought. It’s strange but true! Friends, whether to believe it or not is purely your prerogative but please do offer pooja and prayers to your ancestors. I don’t know if our ancestors get the offerings or not but yeah, you would surely feel satisfied by doing so. Regs J
