SAAWARIYA

Oh! Not Again.

Gullu has just heard that Saawariya film is based on some Hindu-Muslim love story.

The film marks the debut of Rishi Kapoor’s son Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Sonam.

I only hope it does not turn out to be a boring film like Dahek of Akshaye Khanna and Sonali Bendre.

(Someone please correct me if I am wrong in mentioning the film name).

I saw it and felt yuck.

Who is interested in all tht c….?

Anyways, we only hope the film does not create more controversy on that issue. We had had enough with Mani Ratnam’s Bombay et al on such subjects.

SRK AT WAR WITH BIG B

Now we all don’t know where the stories of Shah Rukh Khan versus Amitabh Bachchan comes in media but there is certain amount of truth in it.

The latest buzz we hear is about Mukesh Ambani pitching in this enmity.

The elder Ambani, it is learnt, has signed up with Shah Rukh Khan to promote his retail bandwagon ‘Reliance Fresh’. Shah Rukh will feature in advertisement of Mukesh Ambani’s company.

We are wondering if this move has come after younger brother Anil Ambani promoted Adlabs radio channel roped in Abhishek Bachchan as brand ambassador for 92.7 channel?

Anyways, Gullu does not care. All he wants to see is SRK promoting Reliance Fresh, ‘Lock Kiya Jaye’.

***********************************

Another interesting gossip we heard is about Aamir Khan and SRK.

Apparently, both will work in Dhoom 3.

It seems Aditya Chopra is so upset with Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi that he has decided to have a casting coup of sorts for Dhoom 3.

Gadhvi quit Chopra camp after Dhoom 2 and is planning to make another film with UTV or Adlabs group.

Gullu like others is dying to see SRK and Aamir together on big screen.

***********************************************

Amar Akbar Anthony.

We don’t know what is the problem with Aishwarya Rai?

She is always tag along with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.

We recently spotted her at calendar launch of Daboo Ratnani where she was standing with duo and laughing as usual.

AAMIR AND FARMER ISSUE

Aamir’s new film.

The thinking actor is doing it again.

According to recent buzz Aamir Khan is doing a film on the suicide of farmers in Maharashtra.

Inspite of all the good news on the economy front there is a huge population in India who have no means to drinking water and other basic amenities of life.

There have been more than a thousand suicide by farmers in Mahrashtra alone.

No one takes them seriously in  cities and one only finds some mention in newspapers about this harsh reality of life after seeing some photographs.

Now Aamir Khan will bring this to notice to masses through his latest film.

The title of the film is still not cleared and the actors too have not been decided.

The only information we have till now is the film would go on floors early February.

We only hope that Aamir Khan will bring some hopes to these farmers whose plight he will highlight in the film.

You never know, like his character of Bhuvan became a big hit among massess the next one too cane become big.

We will keep you posted as soon as something more develops on this front.

SALMAN SULKS

The latest we hear that Salman Khan was upset with media on the Premier of 'Aryan'.

Reason?

He was interrogated by Mumbai police about threats to him by underworld in an old case of Chori Chori Chup Ke Chup Ke.

Salman refused to give any pictures to mediapersons and so did his family members who had come to attend the premier of Sohail Khan’s home production ‘Aryan’.

But we are wondering was that the reason?

Insiders tell us that Salman's brother Sohail Khan's film was so bad that it was an atrocious watching.

The film was badly edited and had a story that even boxers will find it difficult to understand.

Aryan had a free entry for the Premiere but still people didn't turn up to see the film.

Moreover, when we saw the promo of the film Sohail was looking like Jaadu of Koi Mil Gaya and we too wonder how could this film do well?

 http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2006/jan/19sd1.htm

The film took atleast 6 months time to release as there were no buyers and when someone bought he must be cursing himself by now.

We also wonder why Sohail Khan or for that matter Arbaaz are trying it hard to make it in Bollywood?

It should be clear to them they will be known all their lives with a tag name, brothers of Salman Khan.

 EOM

Music Director Naushad

Naushad's five favourite songs

Picking the top tunes from the repertoire of such a legendary composer is difficult. I made an attempt though.

One: Bekas Par Rahem Kijiye Sarkare Madina from Mughal-E-Azam.

The reason is the lyrics and minimal music. People may rave about the song Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya from the same film, but the fact is this song is more beautifully composed: Bekas Par Rahem Kijiye Sarkare Madina, Mushkil Mein Hai Takdeer, Bhawar Mein Hai Safina (Help the helpless, Oh! Prophet of Medina, My future is in trouble and my ship is caught in whirlpool).

Unfortunately, the track was not included in the colour version of Mughal-E-Azam released in 2004.

Two: Aiye Husn Zara Jaag Tujhe Ishq Jagaye from Mere Mehboob.

The song is played when Rajendra Kumar drops by Ashok Kumar's residence. His sister Sadhna — who looks gorgeous in the film — is asleep in the other room when he sits on the piano and begins crooning. Kumar pleads: Aiye Husn Zara Jaag Tujhe Ishq Jagaye, Badle Meri Taqdeer Jo Tu Hosh Mein Aaye. (Oh beautiful woman, please wake up. My fate will change once you do).

A must hear.

Three: Mere Mehboob: Title track.

An all-time favourite for the romantic in search of their love. The song is about 5 minutes long, with almost no accompanying music. Rafi's voice is enchanting and, with no major instruments playing, the camera catches Sadhna and Rajendra Kumar, who is singing on stage at a college function.

Naushad obviously knew when to use instruments and when not to.

Four: Dil-E-Nadaan: Mirza Ghalib

Sung by actress Suraiya, this is one of her most remembered tracks. Mirza Ghalib wrote the lyrics in the nineteenth century. Loosely translated, it means: 'What has happened to you, oh my heart? What is the cure for this disease, love? I am dying to see my beloved, but is she bored of me? Oh God! What is this thing that has come up between us?'

Naushad heard Suraiya's voice for the first time on the radio and chose her to sing for Kardar’s Sharda (1942). Mirza Ghalib won the President’s gold medal. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru complimented Suraiya saying "Tumne Mirza Ghalib ki rooh ko zinda kar diya "

Five: Madhuban Mein Radhika Nache: Kohinoor.

Simply beyond compare. There are rare examples of a musician blending a classical song so well in commercial cinema. This track also tells us why Mohammad Rafi is one of the greatest singers of Indian cinema. Few others could touch the depth he did, and it is all because of Naushad.

The lyrics then deviate to: Mridang baje titakitadhum titakitadhum ta ta. Naushad made Rafi sing these lines in one breath. Go, listen.

Why Ash is marrying Abhishek?

Is there a smoke without fire?

No. How then this news spread that Abhishek Bachchan is getting married to Aishwarya Rai?

I am sure. You don't know so does Gullu Gupshup but here are the reasons why Gullu Gupshup feels Aishwarya Rai will tie knot with Abhishek Bachchan.

1Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan are great pals off screen. They acted recently in Phir Milenge film of Revathy and struck very well.

After Dus film, Abhishek got in great rapport with Sanjay Dutt his co-star in the film. The three of them became closest buddy, as Sanjay is the best friend of Salman.

Sanjay was present in Abhishek's party but Salman (Aishwarya's ex-boyfriend) was absent because of obvious reasons.

Moreover, Why is Salman not threatening Abhishek with dire consequences as he threatened Viviek Oberoi three years ago asking him to keep off Aishwarya Rai whom he was seeing then?

2Amitabh Bachchan after recovering from illness has only visited temples for blessings and not a single shoot though Rs 100 crore is riding on his projects.

He first visited Siddhi Vinayak temple in Mumbai then he flew to Tirupati to seek blessings of God.

Around last week of January he went to Akshardham temple in New Delhi and last Thursday on February 11, he was at Porbandar, Gujarat.

He met Rameshbhai Oza alias Bhaishri, the spiritual guru of Ambanis alongwith Anil Ambani, Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan. Tina Ambani and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh too followed.

Something is cooking, isn't it?

3 Amitabh Bachchan’s brother Ajitabh consulted Bangalore based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swamy with the horoscopes of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

According to Swamy, the horoscopes of both Abhishek and Aishwarya matched and ‘god willing, the wedding will happen’.

‘I have known Aishwarya’s father and mother for a long time as we hail from the same village (Punaroor) near Mangalore. They regularly consult me for family and religious ceremonies, besides astrology. I have conducted homas (holy fire worship) for them in Mumbai and in my house,’ Swamy was quoted by news channels.

If the duo are denying of marriage why don't they pull up Swamy for making such statements to press.

4Viviek Oberoi has all praises for Abhishek Bachchan when you meet in person.

They were pals once upon a time and used to bump up with each other.

Unfortunately, he is finding himself in the company of Salman Khan the same person who once threatened him to keep off Aishwarya Rai.

5 Aishwarya the greatest manipulator.

If you see Aishwarya Rai's career the last big hit she could be credited was Hum Dil De Chuke Hai Sanam in 1998 and then Devdas in 2002.

In both the film Salman and Shah Rukh are to be credited too as they were the heroes and not to forget Madhuri Dixit in Devdas.

A dozen of flops but she still is the biggest name in our film industry. This view particular holds true for people of West as she is considered as Bollywood diva.

Aishwarya can easily be termed as a marketing success story though she has not made any news on box office lately.

If Amitabh Bachchan takes a backseat who else could be a better person than Aishwarya in managing Abhishek's career who is riding high on success?
