Selbst Battlefield 3, das in der Vergangenheit noch jede Notebook-GPU an ihre Grenzen brachte, lief mit dem Ultra-Preset und 1920 x 1080 Bildpunkten relativ anständig (~35 fps). Zwei- oder vierfache Kantenglättung packt die HD 7970M ohne Probleme, meist kann man alle Grafikregler auf Anschlag stellen. Akku Asus F5GL

Doch damit nicht genug: Insgesamt reiht sich das High-End-Modell etwa 50 % vor der Radeon HD 6990M bzw. GeForce GTX 675M ein (Schnitt aus 18 Spielen, 1920 x 1080, maximale Details). Akku Asus F5M

Ergo: Wer genug Geld übrig hat, sollte unbedingt die Grafikkarte upgraden - der Aufpreis lohnt sich definitiv. Nvidia müsste die GTX 675M schon erheblich günstiger anbieten, um potenzielle Kunden von der HD 7970M wegzulocken. Für Enthusiasten kommt momentan eigentlich nur das AMD-Modell infrage. Wie der Vorgänger ist auch das M17x R4 im Idle-Betrieb erstaunlich leise. Da sich die Lüfter bei geringer Auslastung komplett deaktivieren, hört man oft nur ein dezentes Rauschen der HDD. Konkret ermittelten wir aus einem Abstand von 15 Zentimetern knapp 31 dB. Trotz leichter Klackgeräusche geht auch die Lautstärke des Blu-Ray-Laufwerks in Ordnung. Akku Asus F5R

Bei 3D-Anwendungen ist der Gamer zwar deutlich hörbar (35-45 dB), als störend laut würden wir die Akustik jedoch nicht kategorisieren – zumindest mit aktiver Grafikumschaltung. Ohne Enduro macht sich die Lüftung teils stärker bemerkbar. Die im Diagramm angeführten 50 dB beziehen sich übrigens auf den Volllasttest und spielen in der Praxis eigentlich keine Rolle. Dass Alienware ein gutes Kühlsystem entworfen hat, wird beim Blick auf die Komponenten ersichtlich. Auch nach einer Stunde Volllast (Furmark & Prime) kletterte die Radeon HD 7970M nicht über die 70-°C-Marke. Intels Core i7-3610QM erreichte laut dem CPUID Hardware Monitor derweil knapp 80 °C – ein völlig akzeptabler Wert. Akku Asus F5SL

Die Gehäuseoberflächen sind hingegen nicht ganz so kühl wie bei anderen Gaming-Notebooks. Während die Oberseite im Stresstest auf durchschnittlich 34 °C kam, waren auf auf der Unterseite rund 38 °C. Im Idle-Betrieb sanken die Temperaturen nur geringfügig, unser Messgerät gab im Schnitt 34 °C (Oberseite) bzw. 36 °C (Unterseite) aus. Zum Vergleich: Das Schenker XMG P502, das wir ebenfalls bei einer Umgebungstemperatur von 24 °C getestet haben, blieb mit 28 °C spürbar kühler. Die Soundqualität überzeugt weitgehend. Alienware verbaut zwei Lautsprecher der Firma Klipsch, die sich in der Gehäusefront hinter beleuchteten Gittern verbergen. Das eigentliche Highlight wartet jedoch unter der Haube. So kommt als Soundchip kein ordinäres 08/15-Produkt von beispielsweise Realtek, sondern ein Modul des Klangspezialisten Creative zum Einsatz. Die Soundblaster Recon3Di bringt neben einer umfangreichen Software auch eine Unterstützung für die THX TruStudio Pro Technologie mit. Crystal Voice (verbessert angeblich die Sprachübertragung) und der Scout Mode (soll eine schnellere Ortung von Gegnern ermöglichen) sind weitere Features. Akku Asus F5VI

Der Klang an sich ist überdurchschnittlich gut, wobei das M17x keine neue Referenz darstellt. Zwar wirkt der Sound mit aktivem THX weniger dumpf und matschig, ein bisschen mehr Präzision und Klarheit hätten es dennoch sein dürfen. Externe Lautsprecher respektive Kopfhörer halten wir nicht unbedingt für nötig. Akku Asus F5VL

  Der Energiebedarf hinterlässt einen zwiespältigen Eindruck. Im Vergleich zu einem Gaming-Notebook, das mit der GeForce GTX 675M ausgestattet ist, offenbart sich der Lastverbrauch als relativ moderat. Während das Schenker XMG P702 im Test zwischen 124 und 218 Watt aus der Steckdose zog, waren es beim Alienware M17x lediglich 109 bis 166 Watt. Dieser Umstand spricht dafür, dass die Radeon HD 7970M eine gute Energieeffizienz vorweisen kann. Trotz höherer Leistung genehmigt sich das High-End-Modell weniger Strom als Nvidias Fermi-Pendant. Im Leerlauf muss der 17-Zöller dagegen Kritik einstecken. 32-44 Watt sind für ein Notebook mit Grafikumschaltung überdurchschnittlich viel. Laut dem Tool HWiNFO taktet sich die HD 7970M im Idle-Betrieb nur bedingt herunter. Selbst bei Inaktivität läuft der Kern stets mit mindestens 720 MHz. Die Radeon HD 6990M hatte bei ihrer Veröffentlichung mit einem ähnlichen Problem zu kämpfen. Momentan erscheinen uns die Stromsparmechanismen noch nicht ganz optimal. Akku Asus X50

Erwartungsgemäß liefert Alienware mit dem M17x R4 ein tolles Gaming-Notebook ab. Bild- und Tonqualität bewegen sich, wie in der Vergangenheit, auf einem hohen Niveau, die Anschlussausstattung (4x USB 3.0!) empfanden wir ebenfalls als gelungen. Akku Asus X50C

Das moderne Gehäuse ist zwar nicht gerade flach bzw. leicht (~4.4 Kilogramm Gewicht), punktet dafür jedoch mit guten Eingabegeräten, komfortablen Wartungsmöglichkeiten und jeder Menge Beleuchtungselementen. Besonders angetan waren wir von den gummierten Soft-Touch-Oberflächen, die prima verarbeitet sind und einen recht hochwertigen Eindruck vermitteln. Qualitativ können die meisten Konkurrenten nicht ansatzweise an das M17x heranreichen. Akku Asus X50GL

Das mit Abstand wichtigste Merkmal ist allerdings die extrem flotte Grafikkarte. AMDs Radeon HD 7970M lehrt nicht nur den bisherigen Spitzenreitern GeForce GTX 675M und Radeon HD 6990M das Fürchten (~50 % Abstand), sondern muss sich auch keineswegs hinter einem ausgewachsenen Desktop-PC verstecken. Maximale Details und hohe Auflösungen im Bereich von 1920 x 1080 treiben die Grafikkarte nur selten ans Limit. Akku Asus X50M

Kritik hagelt es derweil für die unausgereifte Grafikumschaltung. AMDs Enduro-Technologie hinkt Nvidias Optimus-Pendant deutlich hinterher. Neben der miesen Erkennungsrate nervt in der Praxis unter anderem die verringerte Leistung. Ohne Umschaltung (Reboot per Tastenkombiantion Fn + F7) werden Spiele oft dutzende fps flüssiger wiedergegeben. AMD macht hier seit Monaten keinen erkennbaren Schritt nach vorne. Ansonsten gibt es nur wenig am M17x zu bemängeln; uns hat lediglich die stark reflektierende Displayoberfläche gestört. Akku Asus X50N

Fazit: Alienware schnappt sich zum wiederholten Male souverän die Gaming-Krone. Der zweite Platz gebührt aktuell dem Asus G75V, danach kommen die Barebones von Clevo (Schenker XMG P702) und MSI (GT70). Akku Asus X50R

Wer sich ein Sony Vaio zulegt, hat meistens einen gewissen Anspruch an Aussehen und Verarbeitung seines Notebooks. Bekannt geworden sind die Geräte nicht zuletzt durch diese Kernkompetenzen. Um etwas vorzugreifen: Auch das VPC-EH3C0E/W schlägt sich hier gut. Akku Asus X50RL
  Wenn es aber an die Leistung geht, so fallen die Vaios gelegentlich etwas zurück. Bei unserem Testgerät könnte man fast an einen Rückschritt glauben. Einst stand die Marke Pentium für High-End-Prozessoren von Intel, heute ist davon nur noch die Low-Budget-Schiene geblieben. Als Vertreter dieser Serie steckt der Pentium B960 mit integrierter Grafikeinheit in unserem EH3. Auch sonst ist in allen Belangen nur Standard-Hardware verbaut worden. Akku Asus X50SL
  Das 15.5-Zoll Display ist mittelmäßig und auch bei Arbeitsspeicher, Festplatte, optischem Laufwerk oder Anschlussausstattung sind keine großen Überraschungen zu finden. Geschont werden dafür Geldbeutel und Ohren. Akku Asus X50Sr

Man sollte hierbei aber beachten, dass es in der EH3-Serie auch deutlich stärkere Vertreter bis hin zu Core-i5-Prozessoren gibt. Die Anzahl der Ausstattungsvarianten auf der Sony-Homepage ist nahezu erdrückend.
  Zwei Vorgänger aus der EH-Serie hatten wir bei Notebookcheck bereits im Test: Das großzügig ausgestattete VPC-EH1Z1E/B und das etwas schwächere VPC-EH1M1E/W. In vielen Punkten ist das neuere EH3 mit letzterem identisch, sodass an manchen Stellen auf den alten Test verwiesen wird. Akku Asus X50V

Das Testgerät kommt im perlmuttartigen Weiß und kann mit einer faszinierenden Oberflächengestaltung in Wabenform überzeugen. Andere Geräte der EH3-Serie sind auch in schwarz oder blau zu haben. Fingerabdrücke sind kaum zu sehen, obwohl der Deckel in Hochglanz-Optik dasteht. Das Gehäuse ist bis ins letzte Detail identisch mit dem VPC-EH1M1E/W, daher hier nur eine kurze Zusammenfassung.
  Robust, leicht, sauber verarbeitet. Das ist das EH3. Nach wie vor lässt sich der Deckel leider nur mit zwei Händen öffnen. Innen ist ebenfalls alles weiß und die Spaltmaße sind sauber. Lediglich die Tastatur federt etwas, was aber beim Schreiben nicht weiter schlimm ist. Dazu später mehr. Akku Asus X50VL

  Für einen Preis von 500 Euro bekommt man hier keinerlei Extras. Vier USB 2.0-Ports, VGA und HDMI, Audio-Buchsen und Gigabit-LAN gehören mittlerweile selbst in der Mittelklasse zum guten Ton. Immerhin weiß der VGA-Ausgang mit einem sauberen Bild, sogar bei WUXGA zu überzeugen. Einzig bemerkenswert ist die Anwesenheit zweier Card Reader. Einmal für die hauseigenen Memory Sticks, einmal für SD-Karten. Die Positionierung der Anschlüsse ist je nach genutzten Ports für Links- und Rechtshänder ungünstig, wobei Linkshänder unter anderem mit starren LAN und Video-Kabeln zu kämpfen haben, die glücklicherweise aber im hinteren Teil der Seitenkante platziert wurden.   Verbindung mit dem heimischen WLAN nach N-Standard findet das Vaio über eine Atheros WLAN-Karte. Wer klassisch verkabelt zu Werke gehen will, ist mit Gigabit-LAN von Realtek bestens bedient. Bluetooth 3.0 + HS, ebenfalls von Atheros, rundet die Garnitur ab. Wie auch beim Vorgänger gibt es den “Quick Web Access”, der nach Ersteinrichtung das Einschalten des Notebooks in eine reine Websurfing-Umgebung erlaubt. Nervt: McAfee Testversion

Sicherheit
  Mitgeliefert ist in diesem Punkt nichts außer einer Testversion der McAfee Internet Security, die den Nutzer dauernd mit nervigen Pop-Ups belästigt. Hardware für erhöhte Sicherheit, wie z.B. einen Fingerabdruckleser, gibt es nicht. Akku ASUS F6

Zubehör
  Effektiv? Keines. Außer dem 75W-Netzteil samt Netzkabel findet sich eine Zettelsammlung mit Nutzungs- und Garantieinformationen im Karton. Ein Recovery-Medium für Windows 7 Home Premium muss man sich nach mitgelieferter Anleitung selbst erstellen. An Software ist einiges an Vaio-Software vorinstalliert. Akku ASUS F6A

Wartung
  Hier kann der Nutzer nur beschränkt eingreifen. Je eine Klappe für RAM und Festplatte sind alles, was man dem Kunden genehmigt. Schon eine Lüfterreinigung erfordert fast die komplette Demontage des Geräts.

  12 Monate Garantie gönnt man bei Sony dem EH3. Wie auch bei anderen Vaios kann man die aber kostenpflichtig um bis zu zwei Jahre verlängern. Nachdem die Preise hierfür ab rund 100 Euro allerdings recht hoch angesetzt sind, ist es fraglich, ob sich das für ein nur 500 Euro teures Notebook lohnt. Akku ASUS F6K

Optionales Zubehör
  Bei Sony kann man sich mit verschiedenster passender Peripherie und Zubehör eindecken, über Mäuse und Tastatur bis hin zur Notebooktasche. Außerdem gibt es einen Ersatzakku für 150 Euro und ein Ersatznetzteil für 130 Euro. Akku ASUS F6K233E-SL

  Hier findet sich eines der Highlights des Testgerätes: Die Tastatur im Vollformat mit Ziffernblock hat einen angenehmen Anschlag und fühlt sich bis auf ein leichtes Klappern und Federn sehr hochwertig an. Nach wie vor gibt es kaum Sonderfunktionen, die sich über Funktionstasten steuern ließen. Die “Vaio”, “Web” und “Assist”-Tasten sind auch noch da. Everyone is waiting for the launch of Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors - presumably not only the customers but also the manufacturers and in this case, Schenker Notebooks. Nevertheless, the Leipzig-based company goes ahead and installs the Intel chipset, HM77 “Panther Point”, released today to place its new devices on the store shelves. Because the chipset is backward compatible with Sandy Bridge processors, the XMG P502 PRO can easily be equipped with the chips of the still up-to-date Sandy Bridge generation.   If we believe the first leaks of information, the new Ivy quad core chips from Intel will soon be available. In view of this fact, we would advise everyone interested in the P502 to wait for its launch since a significant performance increase is expected. Also, it will presumably be released onto the market with a similar price design as its predecessor, in line with Intel’s price policy of recent years. Dell Precision   M2400 Battery

It is the known Intel i7-2670QM processor from the Sandy Bridge generation that does its job in our XMG P502 test model.  Four physical cores plus 4 additional threads (Hyper Threading) with clock rates of 2.2 up to 3.1 GHz ensure the highest level of performance in all applications. It’s no surprise that the processor currently belongs to one of the most powerful CPUs available and it will still be able to compete in the top ranks of various benchmark tests even after the release of Ivy Bridge. The chip consistently achieves results on the expected level in the Cinebench CPU tests. However, the XMG P502 is sooner in the lower field in view of all identically built and reviewed chips. This could be due to a slightly more effective exploitation of Turbo in other devices. We record a maximum clock of 2.8 - 3.0 GHz in Cinebench R10’s single thread test. PCMark Vantage and PCMark 7 enable a comparison of the overall performance in various application scenarios based on the ascertained scores. We managed proud 15675 points with the XMG P502 in the Vantage test. Despite a potent CPU and powerful Geforce GTX 675M GPU, these high regions can only be penetrated with help from a solid state drive. The Schenker XMG P502 PRO builds in an mSATA SSD from OCZ as the system drive in this regard. Consequently, the 2.5 inch drive bay is free for a voluminous hard disk. Even the newer PCMark 7 acknowledges the system SSD and rewards our test system with 4064 points. The MSI GT780DX (2670QM/GTX570M) equipped with an Intel Series 320 SSD plays in the same league for example. DELL Vostro V130  Battery

The option to now build an mSATA SSD into the XMG P502 opens new possibilities for the user. The combination of a smaller mSATA SSD for the system memory and a voluminous, conventional HDD for the data memory for music, videos and games seems to be an attractive solution. Our test device also features this configuration and, in detail, combines an mSATA SSD, model Nocti, from OCZ with a gross capacity of 120 GB with a Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS hard disk with a capacity of 750 GB. With a revolution speed of 7200 rpm, it also belongs to the faster of its kind. The hard disk renders a high average of 93.2 MB/s in the HDTune benchmark test. However, these scores usually don’t stand a chance against a solid state drive. In detail, we record 104.92 MB/s, respectively 74.07 MB/s for the installed OCZ Nocti in the AS SSD sequential read, respectively write test. The memory doesn’t yet have much of an advantage over its magnetic rival, but that changes in the access rate. The ProBook performs well in the Cinebench benchmark. In fact, the processor scores well enough to place next to the faster Core i5-2520M. Asus Eee PC 1008P Battery

The program performance of the 6360b is very good. Although this laptop is equipped with a standard hard disk, Windows and programs are loaded quite fast. However, the difference between a SSD and a HDD becomes obvious when the hard disk has to reload multiple small files (for example, refreshing thumbnails in a folder). The 4 GB of RAM is standard and can be found in any cheap notebook - thanks to the low RAM prices. Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR Battery

Still, the laptop scores well on the Windows Performance Index and PCMark benchmark. The 6360b places lower than its competition in the PCMark Vantage (the Thinkpad T420 is about 8% faster, the Dell E6320 about 6% faster). This is mainly thanks to the slightly faster processor which runs both laptops. In contrast, the Apple Macbook Pro 13″ scores lower than all the other models: 19% lower than the 6360b. This is probably due to driver issues of the laptop with its faster Core i5-2620M and the slower hard disk. The latest PCMark 7 benchmark paints a similar picture; the main difference being that the Dell model increases its lead to 17% over the 6360b. These are all great values, but the problem is that this 17% gap is not noticeable in everyday use, as all the models place in the top quarter of the benchmark table.   The experience can be improved with a Solid State Drive (SSD). These drives reduce the boot time into Windows and also drastically reduce the load times of diverse programs. In addition, files open instantaneously and copying data is accelerated immensely. As the HP ProBook 6360b is very user-friendly and easy to maintain, the user could swap out the HDD for a SSD in the comfort of his/her own house. Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR-PU17-BR Battery

As mentioned above in the PC Mark benchmark, the hard disk of the 6360b determines whether it scores mediocre or great. Our test model uses a Toshiba HDD with a capacity of 500 GB running at 7200 rpm. HDTune confirms that this drive is special: the storage drives of both the Thinkpad T420 and the Latitude E6320 score lower (by 1-11%, depending on the test) than the hard disk in the small ProBook. The drive even aces the 4K read/write test which simulates the reading and writing of small files (for example, when starting the operating system or copying big folders). The 6360b takes a lead of around 20%. This is a good example of a manufacturer installing a great quality HDD to deliver good system performance. The only drawback is the noise emission of the HDD, as it is quite loud because it runs at 7200 rpm. However, more about that in the section “Emissions”. Asus pro58vm Battery

The CPU contains the HD Graphics 3000 IGP. This IGP (manufactured by Intel) allows the user to watch high quality videos (even HD, for example on Youtube) and perform everyday tasks, such as, surfing the web or working on a text document, with ease. In fact, the IGP has enough juice to support a little gaming. The buyer should not have high expectations of this tiny chip, but it can deliver smooth gaming at the lowest settings. The HD Graphics 3000 scores 3351 points in 3DMark 06 (average among tested notebooks which use this IGP). However, once again we would like to point out that our test model is aimed at business users and not meant for gaming. Asus pro 50sl Battery

We ran a few games on the laptop to see how well it would perform. First up, the popular strategy game - Anno 2070. As expected, the thick business notebook placed alongside multiple other notebooks with the same IGP (30 fps - frames per second) at a resolution of 1024×768 pixels with low details. The gaming experience is quite fluid. The only noticeable difference was that in areas with a lot of details (on land with structures) the frame rate stayed at 30 fps whereas in empty parts of the map (ocean), the frame rate jumped above 50 fps. Running this game at the native resolution (1366×768 pixels) of the 6360b with medium details results in 12 fps in detailed sections of the map. At this point, the game runs so slow that only desperate gamers would choose to play it. We recommend deactivating Anti-Aliasing or lowering the details at this resolution so as to improve performance. Asus f5vl Battery

So, in conclusion, the HD Graphics 3000 IGP allows the user to run casual games at low details and low resolutions. However, gamer enthusiasts looking to run high detail games, such as, Battlefield 3, are recommended to look elsewhere, as the ProBook can not run such games - at any resolution/detail level. It’s clear, however, that Samsung had to make at least a few compromises in order reach such a thin form factor. The high temperatures remain a problem and the persistent lack of a docking port can be hard to accept when the notebook sells for $1400. Upgrading or replacing the mSATA SSD can also prove to be quite expensive and we would like to have seen additional wireless capabilities such as WWAN or even GPS to further cement the notebook as the ultimate travel companion. The card reader could have been better positioned and the uneven brightness distribution from the original remains. Still, the higher overall brightness, better outdoor performance and ultra-wide viewing angles provided by the new PLS display more than makes up for many of the drawbacks. LENOVO G570A Battery

In terms of hardware performance, users shouldn’t expect a large leap in speed from the i5-2467M over the i5-2537M of the original 900X3A. (We may have to wait for the eventual Series 9 with Ivy Bridge before we see any substantial performance gains). If you want one of the most resilient and high quality ultrathins currently out in market and know exactly what the 900X3B has to offer, look no further than this Samsung. The new (and costly) Series 9 is highly recommendable for those who are constantly on the move and require a superlight and bright notebook outdoors just as much as they do indoors. While we wouldn’t call this a “Super Ultrabook”, we can’t help but mention that most users may be just as satisfied with a more “typical” Ultrabook such as the Asus UX31 or Dell XPS 13 that can cost hundreds less.   With the new 2012 T-series ThinkPads, Lenovo has put the final nail in the coffin of the classic keyboard once made popular by IBM.
  Lenovo stuck with the classic keyboard for the current T420, T420S, and T520. But the new ThinkPad T430, T430s, and T530 due to launch early next month have been overhauled with the island-style keyboards that seem to be hitting almost every laptop these days. LENOVO G570G Battery
  The company had already switched to the island-style keyboards for all of its other laptops, so the change was probably inevitable. I have yet to try out the new ThinkPad keyboards, so I can’t weigh in on their user-friendliness. But I have to shed a tear for the loss of the classic keyboard.
  Among laptop makers, Lenovo was virtually the one holdout to retain the classic keyboard, a carryover from the IBM lineup that the company bought from Big Blue in 2004.
  The classic keyboard was built to last - strong, solid, responsive, easy on the fingers. And you could feel it when you pressed a key. In contrast, most of the chiclet, or island-style, keyboards I’ve tried seem soft and flimsy. They don’t deliver the same tactile feel or response I get from a classic keyboard.   I have to confess that I am a heavy typist. I tend to really pound away at the keys. Co-workers with whom I’ve shared offices have been driven mad by the sound of my typing.   On a desktop, it’s easy enough to substitute the vendor’s soft keyboard with a nice mechanical keyboard. I recently bought a Das Keyboard to replace my old Avant Prime keyboard, which is no longer sold.

  I currently own an HP Envy laptop. I like the machine overall, but typing on its island-style keyboard is a frustrating chore, one that inevitably triggers a string of typos that don’t occur when I use a classic keyboard. I’ve been searching for a new laptop and had seriously considered a 2012 Lenovo, hoping the new ThinkPads would carry on the classic keyboard tradition. Now the search may be back on.

Wer beim Zocken nicht nur einen kühlen Kopf, sondern eine kühle Hand bewahren möchte, ist beim XMG A502 an der falschen Stelle. Gerade im linken Notebookareal merkt man unter Last eine deutliche Erwärmung. Über 40 °C (Oberseite) sind auf Dauer nicht besonders angenehm. Die Unterseite erwischt es sogar noch härter: Maximal 54 °C verbieten eine Spielepartie auf dem Schoß. Akku HP HSTNN-XB51

Zwar fühlt sich das Notebook im Idle-Betrieb erheblich kühler an, mit durchschnittlich 34 °C ist das A502 aber dennoch verhältnismäßig warm. Beim potenteren Bruder XMG P502 gab unser Messgerät nur rund 28 °C aus. Akku HP HSTNN-XB52

Die schlechte Soundqualität war definitiv eine der größten Schwächen des Vorgängers. Obwohl das XMG A502 noch immer kein Klangwunder wie beispielsweise das Asus N55 oder das Dell XPS 15 darstellt, sind die beiden auf dem Gehäuseboden integrierten Speaker nun zumindest halbwegs brauchbar. Der Sound hat etwas an Präzision und Volumen gewonnen und wirkt nicht mehr ganz so blechern bzw. künstlich. Die THX-TruStudio-Pro-Technologie von Creative, welche dem Klang mehr Fülle und Dynamik verleiht, sollte man stets aktiviert lassen. Schade: Die Maximallautstärke ist auch weiterhin ziemlich gering. Aufgrund des leuchtstarken Displays benötigt der 15-Zöller im Idle-Betrieb (HD Graphics 4000) etwas mehr Strom als andere Optimus Geräte. Mit 20-30 Watt siedelt sich der Energiebedarf über dem 17-Zoll großen One M73-2O an (12-23 Watt), das – wie bereits erwähnt - eine ähnlich hohe Leistung bietet. Unter Last macht sich hingegen der deaktivierte CPU-Turbo bemerkbar. Trotz gleicher Grafikkarte verbraucht das Schenker Notebook im 3DMark 06 rund 30 % weniger  (62 vs. 86 Watt). Unter Volllast genehmigt sich das One M73-2O sogar knapp 30 Watt mehr. Akku HP 456623-001

Je nach Anbieter wird Clevos W150ER-Barebone entweder mit einem 49 Wh oder mit einem 62 Wh starken 6-Zellen-Akku ausgeliefert. Schenker geht natürlich keine Kompromisse ein und greift wie in der Vergangenheit zum leistungsfähigeren Modell. Akku HP 484785-001

Bei unseren Messungen machte sich allerdings schnell Ernüchterung breit: Selbst unter optimalen Bedingungen (geringe Auslastung, minimale Helligkeit) war der Akku nach nicht einmal drei Stunden leer. Zwei Stunden Filmwiedergabe und eine Stunde 3D-Betrieb (jeweils mit maximaler Helligkeit) sind ebenfalls bescheiden. Neben der potenten Hardware dürfte vor allem die hohe Luminanz des Full-HD-Displays schuld an den mäßigen Laufzeiten sein. Mit dem günstigeren HD+-Panel (1600 x 900) erzielt man eventuell bessere Werte. Akku HP 500014-001

Während das Resümee beim XMG A501 ziemlich euphorisch ausfiel, hat uns die neue Variante nicht mehr vom Hocker gehauen. Ja, das leuchtstarke und reflexionsarme Full-HD-Panel ist eine Klasse für sich. Und ja, mit der GeForce GT 650M steckt nun eine deutlich schnellere Grafikkarte unter der Haube. Akku HP HSTNN-DB51

Warum Barebone-Hersteller Clevo immer noch auf eine beleuchtete Tastatur verzichtet und dem Touchpad wieder eine raue und damit unangenehme Struktur verpasst, bleibt uns allerdings ein Rätsel. Ein kompakteres Netzteil hält Clevo ebenfalls für unnötig. Kurzum: An manchen Stellen wirkt das W150ER-Barebone wie ein müder Aufguss des alten W150HR. Die getunte Anschlussausstattung (drei USB-3.0-Ports) und die verbesserte Soundqualität sind da nur ein schwacher Trost. Akku HP HSTNN-OB51

Ansonsten empfanden wir das Multimedia-Notebook als überaus gelungen. Dank Quad-Core-Prozessor und Solid State Drive (zwei Festplattenschächte!) konnte das Gerät eine herausragende Anwendungsleistung vorweisen. Nvidias brandneue Kepler GPU stellt eine gute Ergänzung dar - viele Spiele laufen auch in hohen Details prima. Die stressfreie Wartung sollte sich die Konkurrenz ebenfalls zum Vorbild nehmen. The laptop has an amazing storage design. It can hold up to two normal 2.5″ drives and one mSATA SSD. Schenker’s website boasts an extensive configuration list for each model. For example, the user can choose to equip their device with a Blu-ray player or a Blu-ray burner instead of a DVD burner (the necessary software will cost extra). A closer look reveals more differences: the XMG logo, which used to be a cheap-looking sticker, now adorns the cover of the laptop as a black inscription. The logo harmonizes well with the rest of the case. Clevo did not experiment with this chassis and has presented a clear-cut design with dark colors. The look is decent, yet conservative, and will not scare off any buyers. If the buyer is looking for a daring modern design, we recommend taking a look at the competition: Alienware M17x, Samsung 700G7A, Asus G74SX, etc. While we are on the topic, we would like to mention that the cheaper MSI MS 1762 barebone (One M73-2N) is slightly inferior to the P170EM as Clevo’s chassis has better input devices and material quality. The chassis is very sturdy. The surfaces around the optical drive and the touchpad can be deformed slightly but the bottom of the notebook is very resistant. The top is also very sturdy and can beat most of the competition. Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2550 Battery

We are not satisfied with the hinges. The reason: although the opening mechanism takes a lot of force (the laptop swings with the display slightly), the display still shakes when the laptop is moved. Another flaw: the enormous cooling system for the high-end hardware makes the case heavy. The notebook weighs about 4 kgs and is not fun to carry around (notebook thickness: ~5.5 cm).   The interfaces of this notebook are identical to the XMG P502. Most ports are placed on the back of the model: i.e. charging interface, Kensington Lock and three digital video interfaces (DVI, HDMI & DisplayPort). Connectivity is similar to the XMG P701. However, the older model lacked DisplayPort. The new model has the eSATA/USB combination interface on the left side. This is unfortunate as before the user could hide the mouse cable nicely behind the laptop. The LAN port would have also been better off at the back of the model.   Connectivity

Ultrathin notebooks are notorious for having limited connectivity options and so users shouldn’t expect too much from the Series 9 in terms of physical ports. Still, Samsung has included a bit more options than what one may normally find in other ultrathin notebooks such as the Acer Aspire S3, Dell XPS 13 or the Apple MacBook Air. Like the model before it, port placement on the 900X3B is limited to the far ends of the left and right edges. There is a USB port on each of the two sides, although why only one port is USB 3.0 and not both is rather perplexing, especially at this price range. Regardless, the notebook generously includes two separate video-out ports in the form of micro-HDMI and mini-VGA, something that is not very common to see simultaneously on a notebook of this size and category. Since there are no ports on the rear and narrow front edges, the side ports are easy-to-reach and user-friendly to both left- and right-handed users. Note that the space between ports can be quite tight – connecting anything larger than an average USB connector (such as physically large USB flash drives) could completely prohibit use of the AC adapter, 3.5mm combo jack or the micro-HDMI port. The 4-in-1 card reader is always a welcomed addition, but it feels like an afterthought as it is practically hidden from sight and requires the user to lift the right side of the notebook in order to gain easier access. We were disappointed to not find a protective case or sleeve of some sort similar to what HP and Asus offer in their high-end Envy and Zenbook lineups, respectively. As for optional accessories, Samsung directly offers a number of first-party items such as USB speakers, HDMI-to-VGA adapters and external optical drives. The Chiclet-style keyboard (28.0cmx10.5cm) is colored darker than the rest of the notebook and is almost identical to the one found on the first generation U.S. Series 9. This means an easy-to-clean (but fingerprint magnet) keyboard with evenly spaced flat keys, average clatter noise and very good overall feedback while typing. Key depth is a bit shallow, although it is nothing that the user can grow accustomed to. The keyboard backlight is a faded blue-green color and is easy on the eyes, but is actually not very bright at all. In fact, a “back glow” would be a more accurate description of the keyboard backlight. The 900X3B only includes 4 backlight settings as opposed to the 10 adjustable settings of the 900X3A and is barely noticeable when working under bright or otherwise well-lit conditions. Only in the dark does the backlight at maximum level become immediately apparent to the user. Für Home-User mit kleinem Geldbeutel ist das Inspiron ein guter Desktop-Ersatz. Das einzig große Manko vorab: der Akku. Da hier kein echter Core2Duo Prozessor verbaut ist, läuft die CPU permanent unter Vollast und kann nicht automatisch runter getaktet werden, um Strom zu sparen. Das führt dazu, dass der Inspiron 15 mit dem normalen Akku weniger als 1 Stunde ohne angeschlossenes Netzteil laufen kann bei normaler Nutzung (WLAN, Browser, Office). Unter Last noch deutlich kürzer, grade mal 30-40 Minuten. Der Lüfter läuft auch relativ oft an, ist aber nicht so laut, dass es nervig wäre. Akku Asus M6700R
Darüber hinaus beschert die Klavieroptik permanent Fingerabdrücke auf der inneren und äußeren Oberfläche. Das sieht dann schnell nicht mehr schick, sondern schlampig aus. Geschmackssache, kann man aber mit leben.

Abgesehen davon ist der Inspiron aber erstmal sehr gut verarbeitet. Die Tastatur ist auch für Vieltipper geeignet und fühlt sich auch noch gut an wenn man den ganzen Tag daran arbeitet. Das Display ist auch in Ordnung, spiegelt natürlich im Sonnenlicht, aber zur Nutzung drinnen einwandfrei. Die Performance ist für normale Aufgaben und z.B. auch Hobby-Video- und Musikbearbeitung völlig in Ordnung, Videos rendern dauert natürlich etwas, aber das ist schon OK. Akku Asus M6700V
  Den aktuellen Preis auf Amazon finde ich allerdings zu hoch (ca. 550), dafür bekommt man hier auch ein Dell Studio (ältere Version mit Core2Duo CPU), das deutlich mehr Leistung und längere Akkulaufzeit beschert.
Wer viel Leistung oder lange Akkulaufzeit will, holt sich keinen Inspiron. Der normale Home-User oder Profi mit kleinem Geldbeutel, der den häufigen Weg zur Steckdose nicht scheut, wird zufrieden sein. Akku Asus M6706

The VAIO FJ series is a very stylish laptop, available in five different colors so that you can express yourself, it’s nice to have that option.  The overall build quality is decent, it’s made of a plastic material but does not flex too much and the screen lid provides good protection. Sony VGP-BPS19/S The weight of 5.3lbs means you’ll be able to carry this laptop around fairly easily, if only the battery life were better than the 2 hours we got it could be considered a more portable machine.  Extra touches such as the programmable shortcut buttons, nicely integrated webcam and wireless on/off switch are thoughtful.  I’m sure the built-in webcam and microphone will be a popular feature for those that are into using video chat.  Although this is a consumer oriented laptop, the webcam can be a very useful  tool as well.  Overall, the VAIO FJ is a nice machine, it’s not a powerhouse or designed for 3D gaming, but for basic high school and college student needs it is perfect, or for small  owners that want to maybe have an all in one video conferencing machine the FJ can fill a role too. Sony VGP-BPS26The whole case flexes to some degree.  The back of the screen flexes in substantially near the Gateway logo, but this doesn’t appear to cause any “ripples” on the screen.  The palm rests flex mildly, but the notebook’s most notable flaw in this area is the keyboard: it has the worst flex of any keyboard I’ve used, bending down several keys surrounding the one you’re striking by up to 2cm.  The flex seems to get worse as you move towards the left-hand side of the keyboard, but is generally not good all around.  The touchpad also flexes a bit, although not nearly as badly as the keyboard.  The flex doesn’t impede typing, however, which is actually a relatively pleasant proposition.  The PCMCIA port is covered by a spring-loaded door, which is a much better solution that an easily-lost plastic filler card, but there is nothing covering the 4-in-1 card reader or any other ports at all.  And in a very pleasant departure from my Inspiron 9300, the “Intel Centrino” sticker is perfectly straight! Typing on this machine is fluid and the keys have good travel, despite the keyboard’s excessive flex. Sony VGP-BPL18 I find myself making the fewest typos using this keyboard of any of my laptops, the sole exception being when I use the right “Shift” key.  It is shortened substantially to make room for the arrow keys, and takes some getting used to.  There are some odd choices of key placement, as well, namely the “Fn” key being left of the “Ctrl” key and the location of the “Del” and “Ins” keys above the “Backspace” key.  The arrow keys are squished in pretty small, and the Function keys are compressed as well.  Possibly the oddest thing, though, is that the “Print Screen” key is an Fn shortcut (Fn + Ins).  The numeric keypad, on the other hand, is properly sized and laid out, and is very useful when entering serial numbers, registration codes, etc.  The touchpad is unremarkable, though I think the small, speed bump-style buttons are a bit too small to be easily found, and would have preferred larger buttons as on my Inspiron 9300 or 7422GX.  It is otherwise like any other trackpad, with a single vertical scroll region and tapping features.  It should be noted that the scrolling doesn’t work with Firefox, but this can be remedied with a driver update. The design of the S-7700N is more thoughtful than the construction.  The case is stylish silver with black accents, and looks very professional.  The blue LEDs were a solid choice, much easier on the eye in the dark than the hideous lime most manufacturers (Dell included) use.  The numeric keypad is definitely a plus, and it comes in very handy for entering serial numbers, PIN codes, etc.  (Definitely a feature I wish the Inspiron 9300 had.)  The screen bezel is uniform. Screen and Speakers:

The S-7700N’s screen is a standard matte finish at WXGA+ (1440×900 pixels) resolution. Sony VGPBPS23/G

A WSXGA+ (1650×1050) matte and WSXGA+ Ultrabright (glossy) are also available as build-to-order options for $100 and $125, respectively.  The WXGA+ screen is very bright for a matte finish screen and has a nearly 180-degree viewing angle from the sides with little loss in brightness.  The bottom viewing angle is good but there is significant loss in brightness.  The top viewing angle is not as good, you’ll get significant color distortion at as little as 15-degrees off of the prime viewing angle.  The screen has 8 available brightness levels, the difference between each level is pretty substantial.  The backlight has noticeable leakage from the top and bottom of the screen, though it doesn’t interfere with most usage and certainly isn’t as pronounced as the light leakage on my Inspiron 9300.  The screen has a slight “sparkling” effect, but it isn’t anywhere near as pronounced as on Dell’s LCDs.  The whites are very white, and color contrast is consistently good.  My screen arrived with nary a dead or stuck pixel.  I would have liked the opportunity to see the higher-resolution WSXGA screen, my Inspiron 9300 is also WXGA+ and the difference comparison would have been nice to see.  I think WSXGA+ option for the Gateway would be the better choice (especially for the modest price), as you would easily be able to fit two full windows on screen at once at that resolution, with the text remaining readable. Das HP Pavilion g7-1337sg ist mit einem Vierkern-Prozessor von AMD ausgestattet (A6-3420M), der mit einer Taktfrequenz von 1,5 Gigahertz arbeitet. Neben dem Prozessorkern gehört dazu ein integrierter Grafikchip. Diesen ergänzt beim HP-Notebook die AMD-Grafikkarte Radeon HD 6520G + 7450M. Der AMD Prozessor glänzt vor allem durch niedrigeren Energieverbrauch. Angeblich bereits in einer Woche lieferbar ist das Pavilion g7-2051sg. Akku HP 462890-721 Das Erscheinungsdatum ist höchst unrealistisch. Eine AMD A10-4600M Quad-Core-APU mit 2,3 GHz arbeitet im Gehäuse (im Preisvergleich falsch angegeben). Dazu gesellt sich eine Radeon HD 7670 mit 1 GiByte-VRAM, 6 GiByte Arbeitsspeicher und ein spiegelndes 17,3-Zoll-Display mit einer Auflösung von 1.600 x 900 Bildpunkten. Der Preis liegt momentan bei 659 Euro. Günstiger mit 499 Euro ist das Pavilion g6-2052sg.
