The Times of India’ has called for voting on ’50 Most Desirable Women’. I do not like the word ‘desirable’. It is a great insult to the personality of women and turns them into objects of desire. Earlier, they used to select ‘most beautiful women; which was quite decent. I do not have any qualms about the ‘sexiest women’ too (as routinely polled by foreign media), since being sexy is also a quality, but the word ‘desirable’, involves a person who is desiring and appears to be undignified, at least to me.

Voting on ’50 Most Desirable Women’. I do not like the word ‘desirable’. It is a great insult to the personality of women and turns them into objects of desire. Mos beautiful women is correct.I agree with you.
Perfectly written, women are not things, it is a shame we insult women by weighing them as things wanted or not.
U r absolutely right, Sir.This is a bad example of our so called ivth pillar….of…democracy
Yes Sir..I do agree with U and Rahul. Rahul has written what i was thinking of writing .
Very right. I agree with you. Anyway Times of India has brought itself very bad name in this area - it simply picks up articles from Western newspapers on issues around sexuality and publishes here without second thoughts whether such articles are “desirable” or not. But in this way, TOI has gained substantial readership from the youth who are out to enjoy such things in ‘good’ medium like a newspaper.
At times I too think about it - the media is bringing us down. At times I feel ashamed of them. But it is also a reality that the way our girls have grown up in the recent past, many of them would feel “proud” of being called “desirable” no matter what meaning comes from the term.
I hope it is a cycle and sanity would return when we make a full round…
