  4. bidisha

Hi bro, seems you are pretty busy these days… no visits, no posts for long… Hw r u?

  5. Sarath Chandra

    Thanks, Mate.

something we do not own? (I think I got another question today – Do we own our lives??? Thanks IC for this post&discussion.) Isn’t that the reason why a person who takes his/her own life is booked under a case of murder! May be that law can be challenged too, in which case the discussion becomes longer :) Otherwise that also implies we need to live. …….. And as for the new born crying, what you said is absolutely right bro, but at the same time it is also true, philosophically, that the baby does feel some discomfort < => ‘suffering’ at being taken out of its cosy little warm home of so many months and that is why it is warmly wrapped up and kept that way for the first few days :) Well. May be this too can be challenged for it is we adults who have drawn such conclusions, the babies can never come and confirm if this is true :))

I wasn’t able to post on your comments section so here I go:

Well, ‘living’, according to me, cannot be just a function of ‘reasoning’ and ‘logic’. ‘Life’ is part of ‘nature’ and perhaps, is the most complex thing in nature. There has to be some innate connection between living and nature’s forces apart from our reasoning mind developing a ‘desire’ to live. And still further, is it a desire to live or we create certain desires in life to support our process of being alive? (I am alive > I do not desire to die unnaturally > Naturally by human instinct, I cannot live doing nothing > I need something to do > I create desire/goals to live.) This discussion can go on and on… :) As for Sarath’s pointing to how not having a choice to be born equates to a need to live - my simple logic is - since we cannot give life to ourselves, then is it reasonable, to claim power to take our lives. Wouldn’t doing so mean we are destroying/causing harm to something we did not create/buy/borrow i.e, –>

yeah..may b i was dozing thru the bio classes..coz i dont remember studying at school either…
i came accross this in a newspaper :D

  9. Virtual Reality

Hi Ice, Thanks for your comment to my article. Re. VR

  10. Sarath Chandra

    On your blog comment -

Those were supposed to be jokes. They were autobiographical :)

As for it being “unlike” me; maybe you don’t know what is me. Logic has always been my strength. But over the last 7-8 years I added humor to my personality. This, though, is my first attempt in the blogging world. You might see more of them in the future. So get ready to be more bored :))

    On -

well…if thats the way we were or thats the way we have become, there has to be some reason…need to explore that further :)

I think, the world over countries came about due to a common language and culture etc. There is historic precedent for each country. India was several countries before the British came in. We united to oust a commonn enemy. Before they came about, as inconvenient as it is for many people to recognize, India’s enemy were Islamic invaders. With the arrival of British, they became one of us. I still remember some rose tinted sentences in our history textbooks - “Before the British, all of us Hindus, Christians, Muslims lived together happily. They divided us and made us quarrel with each other”. Seriously??? Twist it as much as you like, Inidan kings were fighting before the British came and many of them allied with the British to defeat their prime enemies of the time, only to later find the British as their prime enemy.

  12. Sarath Chandra

    On -

haha, a British man as Indian PM…thats a dangerous idea even to put forward, let alone get people to accept it :)

The reason it makes it so dangerous to put forward this idea, is precisely the reason why India will probably not stay as one country in the long run. It is just a matter of degree; we cannot accept a white man. The same argument with some modifications can be used for divisions based on religion, language, caste, region or whatever, and as we can see, it is used.

  13. r r

well dont evne try it…its too addictive…

I read your entry on my GB. You know we in Bengal specially the middle class educated gentry at Calcutta discuss political issues almost every day! Many Bengali do subscribe to Gandhi ji’s ways means and actions, but almost every one has has respect for him. It was proved beyond doubt that his thinking of ways of eradicating the poverty for a country like ours were one of the best suited policies. Unfortunately they were not pursued properly. I shall love to exchange views with you on this socioeconomic issues.

  15. Jim

IC, thanks. Actually you are correct. It is true only for the likes of me who depend entirely on internet.. Too lazy to do anything more :)

  16. bidisha

Noted your entry on my GB. I may like to discuss on it later, bro. Also, my knowledge of political history is very limited.

And on your comment on my latest blog - Yes, I am on self inspirational mode. I indeed started it that way, but just look at the number of inspirors adding value to it :)) Isn’t that great! Probably I can count this also as one of the changes on my blog :)

  17. Sarath Chandra

Well, I wasn’t going to discuss Delhi’s suitability as capital. The point I am trying to make is, whatever city you name as capital, people from elsewhere if led by a suitably “inspirational” (for lack of an alternative word due to limited vocabulary) leader, can be made to think they are being cheated and being discriminated against.

I personally wouldn’t place too much importance on self-rule as long as individual freedom and rights are protected. It’s a different matter that in some cases unless we have self-rule, our rights and freedom are not protected. In other words, I wouldn’t care if my PM is a white man (British?) as long as all of us have rights and freedom equal to that of the white man :)

    HI
Trying to be back..actually. Decided to read at least on ilander’s blog per day. Take care n have a nice evening!

  19. Sarath Chandra

That’s really flattering, Ice Candy. I’ll get to posting on randomness ASAP :)

BTW, I glanced through the posts in the link you provided. I think I will like that person. Thanks for the reference.

  20. bidisha

    Hi posted the link :)

  21. Sarath Chandra

    Duh….Really???

    :))

Honestly, did you understand what you wrote? I think I will take some time. I will get back to you, when I figure it out :)

  22. Sarath Chandra

I’ll get back to you over the GB entry maybe Saturday. I am quite occupied now with guests and classes.

As for the comment, yes I would be irritated too with that stress on women and kids. I guess I was just trying to package the idea in more agreeable terms to the reader, as you seem to have figured out; no excuses, frankly. That was a mistake.

Still, it’s too much work and I’ll let it slide. I’ll see if I can do something over the weekend, or maybe post a revision after an year :)

  23. Sarath Chandra

Each issue independently, Ice Candy :)

Firstly, let’s get this out of the way. I hope it is understood that it is not valid to say, “I won’t force you; but I will kill you (or cheat or rape or hit you)”. As all those things never have the voluntary compliance of the victim.

Bombs - Of course, you can make bombs after showing you have no malice, incompetence and negligence. That is what our military installations do. The safety is an issue in the public domain and the government will decide whether to give you a license to do that.

Drugs - This, for me, is an issue on the individual level. If a guy wants to take drugs and suffer (after his momentary high), it is his wish. It does not threaten others and unless it does I am not bothered.

Counterfeit money - What I said for bombs holds here too on a different direction. You can expand it yourself :)

  24. ice candy

Time to admit that I am committing a fraud here.
    I am not ice candy.
    ice candy is not me.

  25. ice candy

happy singh ji…don’t thank me…but I do agree with this…”That you didn’t know who said that and for whom doesn’t matter. “
