WHY WE SHOULD BE PURE VEGETARIAN

Coming back to rediff-iland in it’s new form after a long time. the new look seems good… let’s hope it helps in spreading the blog culture better…
here’s my first post of the year…

Surender Paul Chopra
Ex Air Warrior
The whole universe is filled with the living organism whether visible or invisible, nothing is vacuumed.
We all are in the physical forms and presently in the physical region of the universe, and we need to survive in this universe for that we have got the physical body and to keep the body live we need some diet .But as per the karmic law of the Universe what ever we do it is being registered in the karmic log sheet against our soul which we got to balance rather we got to pay back to balance because each thought, word and action comes under the karmic law.
There are 8.4 millions kinds of species are occupying all the regions of whole universe. Let us discuss the physical region in which most of the species are visible like Plants, Insects and water Animals, Birds, Animals like dogs, cats, elephants and Human beings.

To survive in the region we got to have some diet for our physical body to be remained in the body. For that we got to kill some species and use them for our food to survive and killing some species creates karmas.

Now let us discuss the differentiation between vegetarian and non vegetarian diets, all the five categories of different kinds of species are made of five elements, these are Earth, Space, Air, Fire and Water and the each species have some percentage of each and every elements and all the species are categorized as per the percentage of all the elements. Though all the species on this planet have physical configuration and are the living organism which grows and dies off. Plants being the lowest most category contains maximum of earth and water elements and presence of rest three elements are negligible in percentage, all the eatable plants right from the grass to the biggest tree and their fruits are consider to be the vegetarian diets because by killing them and eating them creates the karmas which can be easily balanced as the law says that each and every action has equal and opposite reaction, so the impact of the creation of these type of karma is lesser than the other karma.
The second lowest most species are the water animal, reptiles and the insects consist of three major elements earth, water and air and the presence of rest two elements are negligible then comes the birds which consists of water, air and fire but the earth & space are negligible then comes the mammal animals consist of major four elements earth, water, air and fire but the presence of space element is negligible. Killing & eating these species other than plants are considered to be non vegetarian because the impact of these types of karmas are heavy as per the categories and to balance these we got to pay back by suffering our self by going into the lower configurations than the human.
The life of all the species are 100% pre ordained right from the birth till death of the physical configuration other then the human configuration. Human configuration has got only 25% free will and other 75 % of life span is pre ordained as per the previous karmas.

A story related to the karmas I must share with you, in a village there was a school and in some festival there use to be a function where one male goat to be chopped off and the meat to be served to the public so the a teacher was deployed to perform the function, He brought a male goat and told to the boys o the school to take care of the goat by washing and providing good grass feed, some boys took the goat to the river and started washing and garlanding while they were doing this the goat started laughing and the weeping ( as the story says ) they were surprised and eager to know what is happening to goat, one of the boy asked the goat Hey what happened, why are you laughing and weeping? Goat replies that, that I will disclose in front of your teacher please take me to your teacher, all the boys took the goat to the teacher and told the happenings, after listening the story teacher asked the goat yes! why are you doing that? Goat replies to teacher the following “Dear once upon I was also a teacher and performed this ritual and chopped off the goat once and I have been awarded 500 times to become goat and to be paid back to balance the karma created by me by killing the goat, I am laughing because I am happy that this is my last birth in goat configuration and today I got to die as per the order of the creator of the universe”. Teacher said,” Oho! I see, but why are you weeping “? Goat looked in to his eyes and said,” I am weeping because I am worried about you, “what will happen to you”? As you are also going to create the same karma”. Teacher was stunned and told that,” then we will not kill you” and order the boys to take care of the goat. But goat said that today is the last day for me in this configuration I got to leave some how.

As the story states that the boys left that goat under the hill for green grass, there was a thunder struck and one piece of hill stone fell on goat and the goat dies off. The story teaches us that we should be very care full, as without karma we can not survive on this planet, but we must use the right understandings for each thought, spoken words and action, we got very limited time on this planet and in this human configuration and the creator has provided all the faculties for the right understandings along with 25% free will. So that is why we should live our life on vegetarian diets because by eating vegetable we do create karma but when we do some good thoughts, speaks the good words and acts in helping others in any way, we are able to balance our karmas.

The other reason to be vegetarian in scientific age, the physical configurations of all the species other than the plants having billions of the germs / bacteria which are not vanish able even by burning or roasting and creates hell of deceases by multiplying them self in fertile ground in side the human body. Now the scientists also recommending the vegetarian diets.

Retail market ‘unfair’ practices

Been a while I have written here.. so today took some time out to share what the big retail market chains - BigBazaar, DMart, Hypercity - do to lighten your pocket while no one is looking/complaining.
People seem to have taken the value of currency to be nothing these days - maybe they are earning too much for them to care or just that money itself is no big deal for most such people who help propagate such practices amongst these retain chains.

I had written sometime before too and appalled that this is still becoming more rampant as these chains expand - they always shortchange you on your purchases and guess what - they blame it on the software that bills people… convenient isn’t it…

I bought things  worth 212.5 at Big Bazaar Malad W today. I was given a bill of 212.5 but when I asked for payment through credit card, she punched in 213/- as the amount.
Then she went on explaining that the system has rounded this off… which was absolute crap because she punched the number herself on the credit card payment terminal.
I asked her why then she gave me a bill of Rs. 212.5 and she has no answer for that but continued her justifications.

I was directed to the customer service area and there people are not even willing to talk to you. For them too, .50p is no big deal and they are talking as though I am asking for some big refund from them.
I just wonder where is all this going with people - customers - taking it so easy at all these places and paying whatever is being asked for without checking their bills for accuracy nor accounting.

Is it so much of a hassle these days that people don’t want to ‘waste’ time or that they have all become gutless spineless dumb idiots to allow all such activities to happen under their noses??
what’s this nation coming to with such callousness?
The other day, at DMart, I bought 4 packets of Parle HidenSeek. The lady at the counter conveniently punched in 5 packets and gave me the bill. Had I not verified the numbers immediately, I would have  returned paying Rs. 15/- more for something I don’t even have in my bag.

I surely think people are actually becoming very careless these days and they are just living along trying to make money by dishonest means thereby leading to their caring less about the value of the currency and also thereby contributing to rising food prices.
Imagine, food prices have risen so much and there is not so much of a whimper from people because everyone is so caught up with their own issues…

India surely is Incredible and Shining like no other time before with all such malpractices running galore…

Bank service trauma

Here’s another tale of how a bank’s process and it’s followers play with people’s emotions and cause them immense trauma and pain and stress.

Given the limited care that the society provides to Sr. citizens in our country, assume that given the fracturing nature of our society, when kids go and live away from their parents, and parents are forced to live on their own, the pain and stress they have to go through when the systems around them - banks, post offices, hospitals, infrastructure etc. are not at all helpful for them in any way and they have to still survive somehow.. taking all the risks that come with being on their own in cities, and having to go to all places on their own and doing all the things themselves…

imagine then also the state that with time, the mental makeup of somme of them starts to wither away. Some old people get low in confidence, low is self esteem and begin to in a way ‘give up’ on their daily chores which probably they used to be very good at doing regularly in earlier times.

So if such a person is writing cheques and given that in later times of life, the handwriting becomes a little unsteady, and people become a little unsure, if banks didn’t have a proper process in place, to ensure that the rights and facilities for such people are in place, the stress the individual will face if the person, though is doing everything right, yet, the system penalises him/her.. because someone did a mistake and the customer, who is a Sr. Citizen now has to pay the penalty for it.

So here’s a case let’s say happened in my family. My dad pays his municipal taxes through cheque payment. he writes 2 cheques. on one he has done the job well, no errors. on the other cheque there is a number overwrite, a letter overwrite which he promptly countersigns.

now in such a situation, a person would actually have some amount of small doubt whether the cheque will get accepted or not so he would double check it and ensure that everything has been countersigned correctly.. how much ever there is that low confidence level that there could be an error.

so these cheques get presented in the bank by the presenter. One of the cheque gets cleared and the other is rejected. Now given the pathetic state of how things get done in this country, the bank sends an SMS alert of cheque rejection to the customer who has written the cheque, but the presenter has no information about this. The presenter in this case being the municipal corporation, given their absolute lackadiasical approach to their own work, they ask my dad to wait till the cheque comes back to them, WITHOUT even telling him what is the process if the cheque gets returned, and if he can make another payment immediately to at least avoid the late charges of any kind.

So after 20 days the cheque comes back to the presenter, the Municipal corporation office, and they suddenly call up and tell my dad to pay a penalty of Rs 2000/- for the cheque rejection. Now for the government bodies, there are no workarounds in processes and they will be dead adamant for recovering the penalty from the customer, never mind their own inept ways of working and causing pain when it comes to their own work models.

So they show the cheque which gets rejected to my dad and my dad finds that the reason the bank has mentioned for rejection is AN ABSOLUTE LIE. There was no correction in the section they mentioned was the cause for the cheque being rejected.

So see the irony of the whole situation - My dad presents these cheques 2 weeks in advance to earn a saving of about 6% and he gets penalised with 80% extra payment. And the reason for this is an absolutely inept process by the bank which passes one cheque of the same customer and rejects the next one with an absolutely illogical and wrong reason.

When the bank alerted about the cheque being rejected, there was a huge hue and cry in the house about how bungling my dad could be and why he has never been keeping his expenses in control and all that which comes with a typical blame game people play in such situations in families. making the person feel worthless, inept and bungling which increases the self doubt in the mind of an old person all the more. causing unnecessary stress that the systems around are really worthless and that there is a loss of hard earned money for all kinds of reasons..

Now with this situation, where the  cheque was rejected for a wrong reason, imagine on one had that feeling my dad would have had that at least his self esteem has a slight upliftment, but at the same time, the pressure that the event causes that one has to go around proving one is not guilty and that someone has caused this situation and now we have to pay the price for it and also try to correct it, and try to get the penalty amount back.

Given all these mental underpinings, for a sr. citizen to be able to handle on his/her own is a huge issue. but somehow people have to do it.

so imagine, how one person’s mistake - intentional or not, causes pain to someone else and the whole chain that sets into motion that could for some people prove very harmful too. The person who passes the cheques made a mistake.. for whatever reason, no one will ask him/her that, and that caused a penalty to be paid, of hard earned money for no mistake of the customer, and eventually over a long period of time, the trauma and stress remains in those impacted… probably sitting far away helplessly watching all this happen - all because the legal system in a ‘developing nation’ is still developing, there is no logical process in place that is fair and binding on all equally, the economy is developing so fast that people are only thinking how quickly they will make money out of it, than ensuring a long term growth and maturity to come by not following short term gratification.

it’s all a vicious cycle we are caught in this globalization game - and we feel powerless because we are probably value driven and we want to do the right thing, and want right things to happen around us so that everyone can be happy.. but that unfortunately is not to be and people will have to suffer for a few more generations…

still we live on hope!!!

Kotak Mahindra Credit Cards customer care complaint

The Nodal Officer Kotak Credit Cards

I would like to bring to your notice the extreme level of dissatisfaction I have AGAIN been made to experience with the customer care unit of Kotak Credit CArds - this time also includes the ‘credit card collection’ dept.

I would like to speak to someone responsible who can take proper action on the issues I need to highlight.

I have drafted this mail as an extension of my earlier list of issues during card application (provided here for information and reference regd. the issues I have faced with Customer care personnel earlier )

My current issues are related to a payment I made but it was not credited to my account and this is where all the loopholes of the system are bared:

a. I have deposited a cheque towards my credit card payment, due 08-05-2009, in the ATM drop box opp. Inorbit Mall on or around 28th April 09, a week or so in advance of the due date.

b. on 2nd May I received a reminder SMS to make a payment of my bill, which I ignored given that I had already deposited a cheque in advance

c. on 18th May I check my issuing bank account and see that the cheque has not been cleared from my account,  also in my Kotak online account, I see a late fee charges levied.

d. I write to customer service through my online account and I receive a call I think on the next day, 19th May from Ms. Vamsha telling me that she will look into the issue and revert back.

Since I had spoken to Ms Vamsha before also during kotak Credit Card application, and she had reverted back to me on the phone, I was expecting a similar call from her. I am not sure if she called or not and I am not sure if I missed any call from
her.

e. On 22-05-2009, I called up the 24 hr customer care line to check the status of what Ms. Vamsha was to revert back on since I had not heard back from her
Mr. Sharad took the call.

He was a very unhelpful person for whatever reason.

He had  no answers to my queries but in turn was questioning me that why I didn’t call up  earlier to confirm why my payment was not received by the credit cards
division.

He also went to the extent of assuming and telling me that ‘because the
amount of payment is not big, the bank did not revert back and inform the
customer that payment was due’

What kind of a customer care response is this?so if the amount of payment is not big, why does the bank then charge penalty on it?

and who is he to decide if the amount is big or small? Does it not make the bank
ensure that the payments are received however small or big? is this the way to justify why the customer was not informed about a delayed payment/payment not received and that the credit cards div has slipped up on
its responsibilities?

I asked this person whether there is no process to inform the customer that the
payment is not received and the customer needs to make the payment immediately.

He says that a reminder was sent to me on 2nd of May and that should suffice.

What kind of customer service response is this?' My payment due date was 8th May and not 2nd May

So why would I bother about this reminder when I know I have dropped a cheque already in advance?

Due to this I wanted to speak to a supervisor to clarify if this indeed was the case.

He kept avoiding me connecting to a supervisor and told me that there was no
supervisor on the floor and he could not find any to connect with.

So he said he would arrange for a call back today ' 23-05-2009 byaround 1030 or so

It is 530 in the evening.. I am still waiting for a commitment to be fulfilled by
Kotak Credit Cards customer care HELL(p) line.

Are these guys not trained to understand what customer care really means, and how they need to tackle the issues of customers by UNDERSTANDING the real problem? In fact these guys create more of a problem instead of resolving them.

f. So , on 23-05-09 I checked my online account and see that she has replied to my email
The response indicated that my cheque was outdated hence it was not credited to
my account.

This response has nothing but this information- no steps to resolve this
issue, no advice what needs to be done next, no indication as to what was the
date on the cheque and why it was not deposited. What kind of a half hearted
response is this when a customer is himself/herself showing interest in getting
a response and a resolution for payment not received?

Now I need the following queries to be resolved.

1. As per the Terms and Conditions of the credit card kit, I am told that I will be informed of any delayed payments or payments not received.

Why was this not informed to me that my Credit Card payment has NOT been
received - for whatever reason on or after the 8th of May?

2.The response of my complaint on 19th May was given to me on 21st May and not immediately. Why?

If my cheque was outdated the status of payment should be available
immediately, right?

Already 10 days have passed that the cheque was not deposited.

So why did it take 2 more days to figure out that my cheque was outdated?

I find this whole trend of customer care very disturbing esp. in the times to come.

In this whole process, I have not been given an opportunity to:

1.know that my payment was not received - which should be the case as per the banks own T&C
2. make an immediate payment had I known the payment was not received on 8th of May and thus avoid any late fee charges

This status is told to me on my initiated enquiry 13 days after the due date has passed and almost 25 days after I have deposited the cheque in the ATM drop box.

I would like to speak to someone Responsible, regarding taking note of this whole trend. I want to ensure that my late payment charges are adjusted.

Gory tale

read it only if you can stand the horrors of accident victims
This is straight out of a horror story but not so much of a ghostly horror but the images will definitely be haunting
on my way back from Indore on the NH3, near Shahpur dist. Thane there was a traffic jam, just after we got out of the Hindola Restaurant morning stop around 0830
Some accident, someone on the road said…
I was expecting a truck and small vehicle collision.. but what I saw made me sick with disgust, with shame and with the totally decaying value system of India.
I see 2 bodies lying on the road.. one, a man in a pool of blood, eyes turned up.. almost out of the sockets in the middle of the road, in a blue shirt, and probably a off white pant.. not sure how he met that fate but just a few feet ahead of the man lay a woman ‘cos the body had a saree on it..
but what turned my insides was there was no head but a crushed mass of brain material…
and i could not just stop to see the whole scene again.. my bus just passed ahead and I was left holding my camera… which might have been good too ‘cos I didn’t get any shot of these bodies..
probably good too because maybe some force somewhere didn’t want this to be captured… I wanted to get down the bus and take a couple of shots but couldn’t muster the courage..

My thoughts and prayers went out to them.. and to my own people who are out on the road and I just hope and pray they are safe always.. and don’t EVER meet a scene like this…

I wondered who those victims were.. what were they doing to meet this fate ‘cos there was a tempo traveller on the middle of the road a few feet before the man’s body.. facing the opp. side the traffic was flowing

was it a road crossing couple, was there some other incident… flashed in my head but what made me feel pathetic about this whole incident is how hordes of people in vehicles around were watching the scene… watching 2 bodies - pile of flesh and blood lie.. with NOT ONE individual, NOT EVEN one of the 5 cops there BOTHERING TO quickly cover up the bodies so as not to cause shock for people watching…

such a thought comes to those people who really care of human feelings, values.. but here, we are all embroiled with red-tapism, bureaucracy and saving our own position so why would the cops try and cover up the bodies lest someone points a finger that they messed up evidence.. if there was any left or if they even realised there would be some procedure to collect evidence…

people around were more interested in talking about the bodies.. vehicles passing by, whose drivers might tomorrow meet some similar scenes..

but for me.. it was one of the 2 scenes I remember… human bodies when they meet such accidents are treated like roadkill, there is no respect for the human-ness of the people who are now lying listless, there is no sympathy for the human psyche of those who might be shocked,
in short, in this hugely growing population of human beings, there is no value left for human life for now everyone knows, we are born to die and die one way or other… so why care

if the government itself is built on a pile of human bodies laid down to make way for power and politics, why will they ever bring out any kind of a regulation that makes strict laws to deal with accident situations - bring in emergency response systems without trying to take credit for facilities given to people…
such governments have no regard to anything but to individualism of their political baiters and their own power play.

middle class and lower class Indians are simply pawns in the game of chess of the power players who will not bother to think twice about caring for people who are of no use to them.. in any political way.

We as a nation of exploding population will end up with growing disrespect for human life- as it is said popularly..

- keede makodon ki tarah jiyenge aur marenge, yehi is desh ki junta ki kismat mein likha hae

Indore’s pathetically Woeful state

I feel pathetic writing about this state of affairs of a city which I like to call my home…

This city has not received drinking water for the last 1 whole week… I landed here on 10th, and today also, there was no water supply… and this has been happening since 4 days before I landed

Do you think such cities of the nation can ever attain any kind of progress when the basic amenities like water and electricity are being so pathetically mis-managed

the state of affairs of the middle class is that they can at least go buy some drinking water.. what about the poor..
lately, I read that water is being distributed under police supervision.. what a state of affairs.

The state of MP is going to dogs as I see it with no positive progress seen except the city being raped point blank by concretization drives which are turning everything that this city once felt proud of into a cemented grave…

the citizens of this city are taking everything sitting down.. and they are not bothered a bit to do anything but to go earn money amongst all this chaos…

I feel ashamed that I can’t do much about it but write and spread the word that this is the situation - AFTER - the elections have been completed… now the elected officials know people can’t do anything but crib and then they too will bear the suffering silently…

hopes are really fading
