Is it GOD or us?
Being here in Tokyo , I come across questions about religion and God very often .
All of a sudden what I realized is that India boosts of being one of the most religious countries of this cosmos. Well that means in addition to human abilities we have the power of religion, divine faith etc etc. But unfortunately next what knocked my mind was the fact that even in this 21st century we are nowhere near to being a developed country. Forget development half of us are unsure about even about getting the next meal.
So who do we blame for this , comparing ourselves from the better nations of the world ,
We arenft short of any natural resources , we have ample of vegetation , smart human brains and that too more than we have asked for .In addition to this we have gGODh existing for us in all shapes colours and sizes. BUT we are not even near to comfortable nations like US ,JAPAN , GERMANY , UK , ——————- this is an unending list. So that means our religion has stopped from growing, from asking for better lives for all our selves.
Well I guess we have left too much on destiny and God and have been under estimating our own human strengths or may be this way leaving things on God and destiny, is an escape route from working hard. Maybe we have entrusted too much on him , rather than slogging our way to whatever we want .Why have we forgotten gGod helps those only who help themselvesh . Why donft we realize that he has empowered us with an intelligence and physical strength to get what we want, rather than merely going to temples and pleading him to grant our wishes? Why its easier for us to fold hands before him than to use those two hands to write an additional report or to make an additional software or to plough another piece of land etc etc.
Another thing is of course that isnft it that we spend too much of our time in religious practices .Has God mentioned this is his terms and conditions anywhere . Isnt sincere hard work a better way of praying to God or thanking him. Why is it that taking bath in Ganga can purify us but we cannot help an old person cross a road? We visit the temple twice but we arenft honest to the very next human being. Arenft we gOFF THE MOTIVEh somewhere?
I GUESS WE HAVE EVEN LET DOWN GOD!!
GOD….NOBODY SEEN HIM, HARDWORK RESULT CAN BE SEEN, VERY FEW DO GOOD WORK FOR THE SOCIETY, INDIA COUNTRY OF GODS IN CRORES,DOING SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.
AND I FULLY AGREE WITH RAJEEV
I think its India’’s spiritual radiance that has helped her through the best & worst of times. Don”t forget that before the Islamic invasion of the subcontinent, India was the Golden country in every aspect take it in technological, arts, spiritual, economic etc..Even during the Islamic rule, it was only India’’s spiritual tolerance that helped her survive. India still remained the most richest nation in the world till the advent of Europeans on its soil. India’’s share in the world accounted for more than 26%. Within a span of 250 years under British rule that whopping share was reduced to a meagre 0.2% draining India of her wealth & resources. So we are talking about a continuous economic dominance of India for a vast period of 3000 years until the European landings. Well, we had to go through bad times for 300 years but we are coming up. We are the only surviving civilization since time immemorial, we will & thrive to prosper thanks India for being contagiously spiritual!
God?? What god? I am not sure anymore. I used to be not so long ago. Now the logical mind quetions … and faith and questioning do not go hand in hand.
Well, that aside, a recent movie on TV “Audrey Rose” found me watching Sir Anthony Hopkins explain to a western couple of the strengths on the Indian way of life. Call it religious call it what you may but there is definitely more peace here in India than in many Western nations. Bhuthan has the highest rating as far as happiness index goes. Now can you put a price tag on your happiness? What the advanced nations have can all be bought with a Master card but there are other things in India that no amount of money can buy. And what’’s more…we as a nation have just started warming up. Go India Go!!
how true and so succintly put.Wish people understand the real meaning of religion and understand what and where is god rather than standing with folded hand and murmering something which they dont even understand.
brilliant to have those perspectives….and to say it with such ease….
I too agree with ur views and expressions.I feel the let back attitude has put in all of us,the politicians and the entire country in to a system infected by the virus. We need always to fall on something or rather depend on…It is very easy to visit the temple and pray for our desires than working for it ,hence the result…..trailing and clinging onto ,inspite of having the best intellectual brain.,this virus can be disinfected only if we people of this country get to realise this as soon as possible… or else ?????
I agree with you Meeta. We, as Indians, do tend to sit back and expect God to take care of us. Perhaps it’’s in our psyche. I find the same attitude in people in the villages where I work — sarkar karegi. Basically, we wish to shirk our responsibilities. Sit back and expect God or someone else to do everything. God helps only those who help themselves. It’’s true. And I have ample reasons to believe so. You sincerely wish to do something and some unknown force or series of circumstances help you to get it done.
But it’’s good to believe that there’’s a God who”ll help us out. This can be a source of great strength when everything seems lost. I”ve seen too many people in the developed nations who get totally shattered mentally and emotionally when things don”t go along a set plan or pattern. Whereas in India, even after severe droughts, floods and other natural calamities, people have the ability to pick themselves up and carry on — all because they believe that God will help.
ya, i agree to u that “God help those only who help themselves.”
if u don”t do any work and think that god will do it for u then it is not going to happen even in a lifetime.men who shed their sweat get success in every feild of life.they can withstand every tough situation.
u can that fight is still “on” on the ram-mandir issue.it has merely became a hot-issue for the politicians to increase their vote bank.there are thousands of temples & mosques in india. so the question here is “DO WE NEED ANY MORE TEMPLES /MOSQUES FOR WORSHIP?”instead the govt. should take actions for the better growth of the country. there are hundreds of people who sleep without having a meal. some of them die too. don”t the govt. take action for that?
i guess religiosity has nothing to do with development or the lack of it. no religion prevents one from attaining development. God doesn”t tell anyone to remain poor. development calls for sustained endeavours in diverse fileds, warranting massive investment, coupled with sustained contributions from all sections of society. religion and faith probably do not come into the picture. thought-provoking post!
The God is in your Heart. where you have the faith/belief
see the problem is people think that worshiping god is everything and its ok even if you dont do your job as long as you have been to the temple all is forgiven. God has preceded everything. I have seen people who are very religious, but wont put much effort into their assigned job or work. I think thats the problem with India. Too much religion.
hey u…
yes you are right somewhere.. infact very true, people over here had just made their life like everything has already been decided… One should move towards what he has decided for him.. determination, seriousness will defenately let him grow…
thanks meeta
coz of you, now i decided that i will not give up & fight for what i wanted with life…
stay happy!
rahul
i think i understand ur train of thought,meeta..i guessour faith and our attitude are irrevocably bound together, and i think we r richer because of it..true,our glaring poverty and low levels of human indexes hurt, but arent we right now in the middle of a movement of sea change in our value systems..i agree that dumb commercialism is taking away a big part of our humaneness, but ,aren”t we,as a nation, better off than we were a decade ago?this is all dis insane mind’’s personal trites, but its always refreshing to have something close to our hearts right there on print:-))))))))))))))))..hv a great day..
