Papa can?t we keep him at home for ever ?
?No sweetheart, it is tradition; we have to follow?.replied my wife.
But mama , so many people are keeping him for 10 days in their home.
Not everybody dear, only in maharastra & andhrapradesh they do it.But as we are doing puja at home , we have to do the BISARJAN.
I could see little drop of tear in the eyes of my daughter , as we are about to immerse the idol of LORD GANESHA in the sea beach.with thousands of other people .I was trying to remember my childhood memory?.Exactly the same way I used to cry & force my parents not to immerse GANESH in water. My father used to console me & used to give me chocolate .Suddenly I remembered one thing which my father had given me? .
I took up my daughter on to my lap & whispered that I had a surprise for her in house which will make her happy. She looked at me & asked ?what?s that surprise??
First let us do the immersion & see yourself at home& you will love it.?. I told.
We came back home.i opened my cupboard & tookout one small? CHINA CLAY GANESH IDOL which was given to me by my father years back & I had kept it as my lucky charm. I told her ?now you can keep it & this need not be immersed in water;Have? all the good luck & wishes of ganesh?.
My daughter was dancing with joy.I knew I need not worry till next year GANESH PUJA..

excellent narration…a good short story formal where every thing is nicely packed and served
This is one of yr best posts. Very heart warming and tender. I have witnessed this ritual only once while I was in Surat during the construction of an Ammonia plat. I could not simply bear the sight of so many beautiful Ganeshas breaking into smitherens in the sea. I would have run to pick up one, if offered to me……….PGR
a very heart touching incident….nice of consoling the little one
Good post…. the joy and wishes be always with ur daughter!!
Nice post really……..even i used to cry when i was child and the same way i used to ask my mom why we cant keep bhagwan forever wht is the prob in that? and my mom use to answer me the same answer u gave, that it is a tradition and if we keep bhagwan like this forver we will not have any value of such a lovely festival it………..
children, sometimes are more reasonable than adults. come to think of it, it makes little sense in throwing an idol into the sea, tradition or not. the whole concept of tradition is hot air. it is in reality doing some stupid thing over and over again for no reason
lovely post arvind…loved the gesture…and even i too dont feel like immersing ganesh now also leave alone and sometimes these traditions annoy me too!

This story proves that even when our parents are no more in this world they always are there to support us in one way or the other.

Nice and the father managed her daughter very nicely as of his father managed him.

Very touching. Ganesha is so cute that he steals everybody’’s heart whether u r a believer or not. Kids r specially drawn to him n the kid in each one of us is also swayed.

dont worry next year your daughter will not be upset as she knows that her sweet small little ganesha will be with her forever and he will never be immersed.
Very loving father u are . I am really touched. Reminded me of my daughter when she was small. Now she is 14 and i often feel that she can handle things very well now because of the great love and affection that had been showered on her inh er earlier days ………. where she almost never was given a chance to cry … i used to find a “clay Ganesha ” from somewhere ……….. Sheila
