A VISIT TO DEAD MAN’S FAMILY
Posted in A VISIT TO DEAD MAN'S FAM on 08/07/2007 11:57 am by aravind dasLast week one of the very close friend of my father ‘PRAMOD UNCLE’ passed away due to cancer. As my parents were out of the town , they advised us to visit & console the bereved family & pay our last respect . Immidiately i spoke to the eldest son , who was also my friend and consoled him. as they were in their village , he told me to come after 3 days.Entire day we were discussing about pramoduncle , aunty & about their family. their family was very close to us.My mother had advised us to treat uncle’s death ceremony as our family ceremony & told strictly not to eat nonveg & not to do any puja till 12 th day ceremony of pramod uncle.
My father spoke atleast 7 times to me & asked all the details & even told me to go to uncle’s village. As it was raining heavily i could not go , but promised my father to visit their house as soon as they arrive here.
After 2 days we all went to uncle’s house in the evening. My wife had instructed me & my daughter to keep utmost silence in their house & not to laugh.afterall it is a house where people will be in sad mode.Actually i am jolly minded person who seldom maitain gloomy & heavy atmoshphere. So strict instruction to me…no smile or laugh…no joke.No request for cartoon channel( for my daughter).etc..etc.all of us mentally prepared ourself as if we have lost some of our family member.Even my wife told that while consoling there nothing worng to cry…” cry’ ????it was difficult for me. i could hardly make a drama. But anyhow i am an emotional man, lets try.
we reached their house at 7.30 pm. almost all of theirfamily members ( uncle had 3 sons & one daughter..all married) were present. Somebody was busy watching TV, somebody was busy in watching latest cinema on DVD, children were busy in COMPUTER GAME , ladies busy in chit chating…pizza , cakes , colddrinks were spread all over the rooms. What we saw was totally contrast to our imagination.for the first 10 minutes it was difficult for us to adjust. everybody was so relaxed as if they have not lost somebody, rather got away from some body.
Their main discussion was how to devide the property …it was really stinking atmosphere. We just met aunty who was really feeling the pain inside, we consoled her & sat near her for some time. She could feel our pulse. Her tears were started rolling down her cheek. Nobody was bother to sit near her.All were discussing where to go for dinner……
While driving back home there was pin drop silence. I was thinking what to tell my parents…………
