A state of consciousness

If I ever get to become a minister, I shall read the oath in Hindi.  I wonder if you are allowed to take the oath in any of the thirteen odd official languages.  Why such a decision?  Well, the person who crafted the oath certainly did not make life easy for those who wanted to read it out in English!  Imagine, pronouncing “conscientiously” without being conscious of the fact that you could actually stumble over that word.  What a word to introduce in an oath, when you are already nervous and trying to sound calm!!!

I switched on NDTV just as Andimuthu Raja was taking the oath, and was amused to hear him say that he would discharge his duties consciously.  Given the debate over the spectrum issue, I would imagine that he actually meant not to use the term conscientiously.  Whether it was intentional or otherwise, I wouldn’t know, but I will have to live with the fact that he will be conscious when he discharges his duties!

I wonder if sleeping can be considered a state of consciousness; if it were not, then will there be any action taken against ministers who doze off when parliament is in session?

And then there were a few who would only take the oath solemnly, whilst others swore in the name of God…so, if things don’t work out as planned… Help me God!

Oh that word is a tough one. A really tripper like quite a few others. Con si is the key. I am not immediately able to think of similar others. Good point about politicians using them and the brit educated law makers drafting them.
