The iceberg is melting The iceberg is melting

In one of my sessions someone asked me this question very innocently.” why are we today torn in the society and divided so much soaked in violence? Is there a better place away from this ?”

I could only respond through this poem

Asked your question to the tree of life

Here is what came as reply

From the single breath sprouted the spring

The very essence of life in the form of water

Flowing all over the earth in mating

In its path rose the seed of all geneses

Hugging and molding everything in its direction

Rocking gently the cradle of civilizations

From it emerged glaciers many

Rigid and hostile in memory

Romanizing ideologies in the divide

Grew many more as time passed by

Friction flew sparks when they clashed

As the True molecular form was forgotten deep beneath

When differences became unbearable

And the pain in violence sporadic

In resentment Mother Nature started to warm up

To shake off the clutter that now became a burden

In its heat the glaciers started see their fate

Perish will they in the chaos

For the Iceberg is melting, Iceberg is melting

Breaking free from the glaciers

Eager to become water again

Piece by piece from the rigidity as we fall away

In its true nature will arise the missing thing

Only to HUG each other in oneness as we all sing.

Once more shall we be the free spirited energy

That once flowed over this whole universe.

Simmering under the light of truth

Will once more the song of love be sung

Was working late last night on my computer and was suddenly distracted by the cracking thunderous lightening’s.Without warning the howling wind snapped the power supply and drowned the whole place in eerie darkness only to show glimpse of split secs day light by the lightning’s following the thunder claps.

It was mysterious and enthralling as brief periods of total silence shattered by the deafening claps of the clouds in which things appeared before the eyes and then melting into the darkness as if I was opening my eyes and shutting it though like in a theatre on stage with curtains falling down.

Suddenly the gusty wind rose in its force against any space available reaching a crescendo. All around the windows were rattling against its thrust….I was like in panic , fearing it may break the glasses……….the curtains were suspended horizontally in the air as if pointing towards something in the blowing wind

All of a suddenly i jumped out at the sounds all around me……..it was as if someone was throwing stones at my home I rushed out to check but couldn’t see any one. then in the streaks of lightening saw the wall clock it was 12:45 am

There was silence and I started collecting my nerves

Then it began again

There were actually something hitting all over the place with loud sounds……..

I went out in the open in my garden…………….suddenly was hit by something cold and solid and it fell all over the place….some went into my shirt and i could feel the cold icy invisible fingers tickling me from the inside.

The realized …….its THE HAIL STORM

Pieces of ice crystal  droplets were falling every where one that feel in front of me later was as big as the palm . I picked some and put it in my mouth.

AHA !!! what a feeling ………….the purest form of water   .straight from the heavens into my mouth………….I kept my mouth wide open for some time and i caught few more directly in the mouth. It was GREAT !!!!

Then the gushing wind brought torrents of rain

I rushed in

But was Shivering with this experience and fully excited.

After many many many many years something happened in bangalore ………….Bringing back my Child hood experience.
At BIR (Himalayas) i tasted the purest form of water flowing the earth and here i drank from the heavens…..

 AHAH !!! AHAH

As the intensity of rain fall increases each drop falling on the leaves, the branches, the grass, the window, on the empty buckets each were performing “JUGALBAANDI ” of classical music………….

Then at every community of puddle that the every rain drops merge to form I jumped   into it with my bare feet,  watching  the plash all around drowning in my own gleeful laughter.

Then I  stood in the rain in the middle of the garden with my arms open to the sky embracing it in love that this excitement has started turbulently overflowing in my heart bursting forth. With my eyes closed Feeling the heavenly kisses of the rain all over me in breathlessness of the heightening of excitement.

I opened my eyes and in the streak of the lightening then i see the Sky glittering and sparkling in the chandelier of diamonds  as the rain drops rushed to greet the earth

Went i finally went to be my heart was full

Today morning I felt so strange and beautiful

As if  I was imprisoned in the neither world and it seems I am reborn as the sensitive sunlight illuminated the sleepy earth I felt like a mother who sees her lovely baby blissfully asleep in the cradle and then watching the baby sleepily open the eyes and the mother awaits the smile that is worth all the pain of wait

Just now have begun a new journey through my heart and I cannot express enough in words of my joy……..So i have shared this experience with you  all

Don’t know if you can actually feel through words what I am feeling right now ……………..

Then I became an Eagle

Infinite years I spent learning more
What I got was only less

Like a vulture sat low
Feeding and finding the rotten

Suddenly the winds of change blew in my in my yard
Blowing me high over the foot of himalayas

Where in the womb of the deer park
My ego fell on the ground so bruised

Only then did i realise my real strength
To be reborn as the eagle in the vision

Among true friendship and love
As I soar higher and higher

Belief in me grew
With faith restored  away from shaking

Its all about the climb
It all about the right time

The invisible wind as it caresses me
I am now the eagle who can see from the skies

And the earth my teacher
To look and never miss an opportunity

Here now i have learnt from infinite time
In the hearts filled with love, lies my real home.

My personal transformation set in at BIR a Tibetian Hamlet on the foot of Himalayas at a new level,I was inspired to pen my feelings post the BIR Unconference from 4th to 9th April .I met lot of genuine friends who gradually helped me to build distinctions in my aspects of my thought process.I am so glad that I met these beautiful beings.

Obsessed with only white
Made me feel always right

In it felt i had everything
And aspired for nothing

Was in a perfect rhyme in life
As is the calmness on the water surface after strife

That’s when I came across this flock
Where ticking was forgotten by the clock

Pushing me into the streams of thoughts myriad
In which I rolled and bathed  like a new bride

At times felt like a lost child crying in the blowing wind
Yet the warmth of mothers assurance did i feel in the grind

Then did i see in the light
After I gave up to fight

In me is the creative prism
Displaying a rainbow in union admist the schism

Came forth then my life song
Gently floating in love and compassion I belong

By the side of the fountain of creation
I now sing everyday in appreciation

The wonderful gift of colours
The universe gave to me as a bouquet of flowers

I got this inspiration after the Unconference at BIR (Foot of Himayas)on April 4th 2011.The magic of that event lives on

The common birds in Yelahanka Bangalore North

In the ceaseless trappings of this busy city life we often lose the sight of the wonderful surroundings as we are lost in the drum of the struggle to survive in the concrete jungle. We hardly get time to sit back and relax, spending some time for ourselves in solitude or appreciate the natural surroundings..

This is exactly why i started spending  time in the gardening as I have a very well developed garden. I have planted Pomegranate, mango, Papaya, Guavas and banana. There are also 4 variety of Jasmine flower plant as well as bordered by durantha shrubs with their rich lush light green glamorous looks. It’s almost now 8 months since I started to spot the various birds that visit my garden. I got into this habit of spotting the birds and recording their sounds .This led me to some interesting and amazing findings.

I am residing in Yelahanka a once satellite town of Bangalore which is now a part of the city and the most attractive place in Bangalore North with plenty of public gardens and greenery. The most interesting part is its proximity to Puttenhalli Lake which is now surrounded by a layout that has mushroomed in recent times on the other hand with KHB colony buildings as well as the California Resorts. This is so very special as this attracts Siberian Cranes which migrate here and also breed in the lake.

Some of the birds that are popular are parrots, warblers, pigeons, mynhas, Brahmi Kites,Geese, the blue whiskered bubul, It s amazing to see the food chain cycle and how these creatures thrive and survive in this dwindling wilderness being slowly overridden by the expanding metro life. The strangest phenomenon is the disappearance of the domestic common sparrow completely from the metro. They were once the part of our existence and were so common.

Emerging out of the cocoon

In the passage of ceaseless time,
As the self learns to play with creation,
Often to its dismay finds cover in a cocoon,
Made of the actions without will for the world to please,

As it grows on the outer self,
The real self perpetually lies in neglect,
Trying to assert itself occasionally,
Like the rise and fall of the waves on the shores,

Drifting away aimlessly,
Till the time it anchors around a single blade of grass,
And sees its reflection in the water of time,
And all the ripples of ones wronged actions,

The real self surges to the surface,
With a mysterious power of goodness,
As the Cocoon becomes so brittle and withers
Placing the inner self in the mirror image of the universe,

The harmony with nature is established,
No more bitterness and no more hurts,
Basking in the light of forgiveness,
Falling in Love and born all over again,

As I realise this natural law,
None can be trapped in this paradigm of falsehood forever,
The inner potential is the creations gift,
And it always find its path in each soul,

When the time is right,
At the light is not in sight,
It will show itself in its mysterious ways,
In the dawn of a new life with a purpose,

A sense of new found belongingness,
Like the beads in a garland so complete,
The overpowering desire to love in peace,
A fuller life with passion brimming with possibilities,

GOING GREEN - TEACHERS THE CHANGE AGENT

Teachers play a crucial role in creating and influencing the attitude and actions of children and there by of the community. Keeping this in mind,  Rotary Learning Center  supported by Rotary Yelahanka partnered with Citizens Forum Yelahanka New Town represented by Dr.K.S Sangunni, Professor at IISC  to organize a two day Green Leaders Training Programme for school teachers on 12 & 13 December 2009 at National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, Yelahanka (NIPCCD) Bangalore Karnataka India. The programme was attended by 64 teachers from 20 schools.

The programme was inaugurated by PDG Madhura Chatrapathi in the presence of Dr Tripathi, Deputy Director of NIPCCD and Mr. Mysore Virupaksha, Jt Commissioner,BBMP. PDG mentioned in her inaugural address the permission to be taken from the Forest Department or the BBMP before felling a tree even if it is in your compound and suggested that children can monitor this and can inform the authority concerned. New rule introduced to have minimum number of trees to be planted in each plot was mentioned by Mr. Mysore Virupaksha.During the two days, various resource persons interacted with the teachers on Biodiversity, Resource Conservation, Energy Conservation, Composting, Waste Paper Management and Climate Change.

The above was reinforced by way of creative visualization as well. The teachers in turn will implement identified green projects such as waste segregation, creating environmental awareness, reaching out to the nearby community in their respective institutions. Each school will be provided with 4 bins free to start the waste segregation. Mr. S. Vishawanath M.L.A and Dr Tara, Director NIPCCD graced the valedictory session and gave away the certificates. Mr. S. Vishawanath highlighted importance of looking at traditional practices in keeping environment live and kicking. He specifically spoke about his effort in rejuvenating Arkavati River and tanks of Bangalore. Participants expressed their happiness in attending the programme as they were exposed to various environmental concerns which they did not know prior to attending the programme such as importance of waste segregation.

Rtn Bharath Curam, Rtn Kishor Jagirdar, Rtn Dr Radhakrishna and Rtn Paul M were involved in organizing the event and also participated in various sessions. Dr Sungunni and Dr Laksmi Iyer facilitated and co-ordinate d with the resources while Mr Padamanabh a senior Citizen Forum leader worked behind the scenes to organize the programme and co-ordination with the sponsors namely  ITC group of companies and UB group Kingfisher .

The Project Green Glow under which this training programme was organized will continue the involvement in supporting the teachers to take up the initiative in their schools and will act or facilitate as the resources in future. Recognizing the best project implemented during the next few months is also being planned. Overall the program achieved the purpose of sensitizing the school teachers on going green and the role they can play in their schools and the community.

My Mother - when i smiled at her first sight

This poem busted out of me all of a sudden in a rare moment of emotional turmoil from the fathom of my heart stirring my bond with my mother whom i had left behind when I had to go on a long travel on 15th July 1992

Behold! The moment has arrived,

Infinite times was it utilized for the purpose same,

On which she lay, with nervousness and anxiety scanning were her eyes without aim,

Just then from nowhere came a wailing sound,

She set her eyes on the miracle, in white bound,

Behold! The exhilaration

Announcing the end of her long knife edge wait,

Throwing open to her the heavenly gates,

Her fluttered like a startled pigeon in her nest,

With the fountain of excitement busting within her breast,

Behold! The evolution

In an angels hand was it, flooding her eyes with joy,

Congratulations! Giggling said she, it's a BABY BOY,

Stunned was she, looking at her own complete reflection,

Millions of cells with which she started to sew, months ago full of great affection,

Behold! Here lies the miracle of creation,

Declaring her a women so complete,

Making all the pangs of pain to delete,

How fragile and delicate yet so cute,

She searched for words to express love but remained mute,

Behold! The most reliable bond,

At last stretching out her hand on the right,

Touched her own little cheeks, under tiny eyes so bright,

As soft as wool or perhaps feather,

Hey! The pulse so familiar, must be mother,

With tears rolling I smiled back at her

The biggest refugee crisis triggered by Indian farmers

It's now official that the northern parts of India this year will witness a failed monsoon. The granary of India comprises of Punjab and its surrounding state of Harayana as well.

The farmers are already in despair as this would mean that they would be pushed into further debts and multitude of other problems like drinking water and going to bed on an empty stomach for one full year. They are heavily dependent on the Khariff crops sown this time of the year.

The change in rainfall pattern due to the El Nino effect and erratic showers are virtually driving the farming community in the India to look for other occupational alternatives.

Let's take a quick look at some of the root causes

a) Rapid Urbanization: With cities growing randomly as a result of the globalization effect we find that lots of lucrative jobs available that are more enticing and gratifying than the returns from agriculture

b) The Real Estate: as cities expand rapidly the value for land is reaching the skies and the farmers are attracted to the prospects of get rich fast attitude and rid themselves of the poverty .Most of the farmers who sold their lands on the persuasion of agents have ended up as menial laborers cleaning drains and construction workers so similar to the Bimal Roy's movie "Do bigha jameen" in 1950s

c) The ground water levels : is decreasing as irresponsible drilling and usage has resulted in water depths which were available at 75 ft is now not visible even at the depth of 400 ft.

d) Fertilizers: In the last green revolution of the 1960s the people were persuaded to use fertilizers which are petrochemical derivatives. The prolonged exposure of the soil all these years have rendered most fertile areas uncultivable with the top soil being completely destroyed and degraded.

e) The Green revolution technologies: marked a paradigm shift in farming practices. The technologies were supported by the government policies, advocating the use of agro chemicals, hybrid and genetically modified GM seeds, mechanization and irrigation. This required heavy investment and therefore large cash requirements. Initially it gave the

farming community the feeling that it have brought prosperity .Though it helped create a sense of food sovereignty it didn't bring food security at individual level as the produce were more oriented for external markets and not internal demands. Gradually in the absence of a proper price control for their produce sadly today instead of prosperity the farmers are trapped under the burden of debts

Farming has now slowly become unsustainable as the cost of cultivation is increasing but the returns are diminishing

This is forcing farming community to either to take the extreme step of mass suicides or reduce themselves into menial laborers in cities falling below poverty line.

As per the survey by NSSO in 2006 40% of the farming community wants to quit farming and move to alternate occupations.

80,000 farmers are quitting farming and moving into cities every year. This includes farmers with land holding and landless laborers

The combined population of UK, France and Germany is 200 million. The World Bank had therefore estimated that some 400 million people would be willingly or unwillingly moving from the rural to urban centers by 2015.

Subsequent studies have shown that massive distress migration will result in the years to come. For instance, 70 per cent of Tamil Nadu, 65 per cent of Punjab, and nearly 55 per cent of Uttar Pradesh is expected to migrate to urban centers by the year 2020

We have reached the point of disaster and now there is no room for skeptism or criticism we need to act now.

India is poised to become an economic superpower and we have invested so much in our image building as well as our cities .Any metro today is no less than an America in India. Our Bollywood movies are speaking of Indians having attained the affluent status with the NRI life styles. We spend millions of USD on show Biz and fancy infrastructure for our IT /BT companies. Splurge money at super markets and malls

None of us thinking as to where the food comes from and what will happen to us in the coming years with the burgeoning population demanding more and more food while our farmers die on the streets.

We are on the verge of triggering a refugee crisis that could be the largest in our history during peace time.

These 400 million displaced will constitute the new class of migrants ' agricultural refugees. Twice the number of people that are expected to be displaced by global warming worldwide are alone be pushed out of agriculture in India

The Path Maker

In the trial and the test, let not failure overcome with the thoughts of giving up and let not I be tempted to take the easy way out .Oh Lord! put me to this hardship, this churning ,this agony , this despair of unknown but hold me steady with the ray of hope that one day Sanity will prevail and I shall be victorious in the realm of truth.

Weather, weather away Oh boundless time,
In the endless pursuit of the search,

At every milestone I look back and see another phase of life gone by,
Deepening my anger at myself for having been so thoughtless,

Why didn't it reveal to me in its naked form,
Of all those years wasted away when could have been used to optimum,

Like a rodent busy borrowing away in the womb of earth,
While the life and its beauty was always beckoning me,

But I must strive for excellence
As I am destined to be the path maker

For when I am still around with the blessing of strength
my contribution to the world is ever expanding into the horizon

When I am gone
the horizon will still be as ever elusive

But the beacon of my work will
be like the light house to many a ship that is in the storm

That is the cross of burden one highly born must carry into eternity
Then will only the soul will be at peace with one self

Children today seek pratyaksha Pramana ..
