May Fly - An Ephemeral Life

This was written in 1989 , during the rainy season this incident caught my attention and I penned my first poem. Thus, an amateur poet was born .

I saw a may fly one day,

Attracting my attention away,

Flying and flapping his wings,

Full of joy and melody,

Following him were his friends,

Who were dodging each other playfully,

As a child at play, seeking each other they were,

Circling the tube light gleefully,

I mused how happy they are,

But lo! The next moment down he came,

Following him came his beautiful pair of wings

Swinging and swaying in space,

He twisted and turned in dismay,

Calling for help and crying in pain,

To what extent, I know not much,

Alas! He breathed his last

Making me realize how temporal life is,

Today it is with me and may be gone tomorrow,

How short is the happiness of this materialistic world?

But how we worship it and are petrified to accept it,

Oh! Friends open your eyes and see,

How slippery is the worldly pleasures,

Like the insect we will pass one day,

Lets do something noble every day,

  • Liked your poem..true, how short this life is….but all we do is to make it difficult not only for ourselves but for everyone around. Wish we made this beautiful world a better place in some way.
