Since months all of us have heard only one word and that is of course “RECESSION”.Inflation rate rising…and rising..and then dipping..and then again rising..God I hardly understand head or tail of it.What is deflation n what is inflation, well I must admit it seems Greek n Latin to me.With opthalmology in the morning..ENT in the evening and Medicine in the night,I must say there is very little space left in my poor little brain to understand world economy or for that matter our country’s financial status.
The only thing I understood in the whole process is that in this age of recession a lot many people are losing their jobs like anything and the price of the necessary commodities are soaring sky high.By the grace of God I have not had to bear the brunt of this recession nor any of my near and dear ones had to lose their prized jobs.So I was pretty ignorant about the whole scenario without feeling the pinch at all.Till the other day a newspaper report left me stunned. The cover page bore the news of unemployed youths having done their graduation and even postgraduation almost fighting out in a mammoth queue in front of the State Service Commission office in kolkata. And before you think that these young men and women were probably waiting to collect their forms for the State Service Commission exams in order to become collectors of a district let me wake u up to a grave reality..they all were there to collect applications in order to apply for the grade 4 jobs. The total number of seats were 4000 and there were over a lakh applicants so there was a bit of a race to get hold of the form at the earliest.
There was so much commotion, that the police had to ultimately resort to a lathicharge.Besides the employees at the office were not co operative. They were casually doing their job as always. In the scorching sun as the youth of India stood to fight for their rights, the babus of the Commission office shared a joke amongst themselves..”See how the boys and girls are in a hurry to get their forms,it seems as if they are here to buy tickets for a Indo Pak cricket match”.They must have laughed after this insensible joke…their laughters may have filled the atmosphere. It must have almost dissolved the sighs of those lakh of applicants who had a family to support..an ailing mother to look after..an unmarried sister to be married off.Nobody but they themselves knew how poor their plight was which had compelled them to apply for menial jobs leaving aside their postgraduate degrees.
This was my encounter witn reality. The newspaper report brought a dozen questions in my mind.Is this recession????Or the failure of our education system which doesn’t adapt us to get a proper job????Or high handed bureaucracy in which only people having high political associations or backdoor connections are liable to get high ranks in jobs and elsewhere????Can’t say..if this is recession then why only middle class is the victim?Even now on days of festivities the upper middle and high class can afford luxuries. The long queues of people standing outside the jewellery shops to pick their gold or diamonds on the ocassion of Dhanteras mocks the situation..denies outrightly n says in the face..”Where is recession?”..actually nowhere!
Some questions will never be answered.Recession or no recession the plight of the lower middle class has always been the same n similarly the high classes have also led the same extravagant lifestyle.Ever since independence the condition has been same..farmers have died in starvation..students have committed suicide just becoz they wanted to study but had no money to buy a book..and such graduates and postgraduates have led their entire lives working as grade 4 employees. On the other hand politicians have travelled in business classes calling the economy class cattle class, film stars have charged crores for a single movie and sportstars have earned millions from endorsements.Everything is same..the stage is same..only characters have changed.I still remember the one particular scene of the movie Roti kapda aur makaan where Manoj kumar burns his engineering certificates in desperation being tired of unemployment. So for me this is not recession..i still don’t know what recession is..but this is life which some are forced to live in this manner, whether they like it or not!!!
peace girl…actually what i meant was Many & I mean many people lost jobs…& yeah check with your mom about food prices
Prices rising is called inflation. In real recession, prices drop. This we had witnesed in realty sector when builders had lowered their rates. India had a unique recession where prices rose for many things including food prices. I think it was because of the incapability of our government. Irony that MMS was our prime minister and took us into the dumps. People buying jewelery during festivals: is kind of necessity buying. And a lot of people were immunie from recession because they had government jobs. Mainly private sectors lose in case of a recession. Losing jobs is a real thing that happened. In India, when over educated people queue up for govt jobs, it is a complex situation where many are to be blamed, no only our education system. The fact is that our economy is growing without enough number of job creations. I agree with your sentiments in this post… But I think a dedicated and serious government could have made a lot of change. (Rahul)
Very nicely summed up Deepika ….. i agree with your views to the core … particularly when u say “but this is life which some are forced to live in this manner, whether they like it or not”!!!… nice to read ur post
lives of girls are so recession proof!!
anyways even as a observer you saw valid points
Hey there must be something good in Indian system (though I know a lot of things are rotten) as our economy didnt suffer so much like some of the developed countries. A nice post though
nice blog ………………. kaisi hai guriya??????????
Very well said err i mean written deepika, Recession has affected lives of everyone but the impact of recession was more on middle class than on higher class while our politicians remain least affected…
They are still are able to enjoy 7Star luxury and travel in Business class while the other Government sectors are busy making money with least effort possible…
and Recession or no recession, unemployment was always there and will always be there unless we really know how to make us of our man power…
Somehow high paid jobs in IT sectors have directly or indirectly made the cost of living higher and lower middle class people are best affected by this as they cannot afford to meet the living standards of IT Guys or for that matter even the basic household expenses
a very nice write-up….
Hello Deepika..I have commented on this post but I will leave this comment because it seems not to be possable to leave messages in your mail ot guestbook..I hope all is well with you and that we connect again soon,
Always be well,
Carl
recession as you aptly put it [behind the lines,i guess]is representative of the very same set of specimens which stare out of their glass cages in the lab of the medical school ,year after year, batch upon batch of eager-beaver students…a state of mind and a non-stop ennui…Recession is the chance of a life-time for real strivers to bear the cross and yet beat the odds - and show winners[a la obama n his election].
Our politicians must be made accountable for unemployment and pverty in the country. Unless they change their ways we can not criticise Naxalism and Maoism in the country.
so u dont understand the term, but u have written nice one,
Its just an economics Industrial cycle. just like three seasons in the year. Sometime one affects more than others.
Now Many countries and Middle east is demanding the new International currency, or new system.
see the impact in some period.
very true dear………………….u r right…………….nice post dear
i fully agree with this post of urs…… luvd the write-up… keep it up!
As you rightly sums up, recession or no recession, problem of unemployment will stay on, and there is nothing to be surprised about the insensitivity and callousness of the babu’’s. these babu’’s along with the netas are in the fast lane to usurp as much as they can while are in their respective position. This is ailing our society.
nice write up……….thanx 4 sharing………..
”VERY TRUE ” Nice post. Please keep it up…………..SURYAKIRAN

very nice write up…$
very nice writeup on current issue…thanx for share
nice write up Deepika……..even i dont understand what is recession fully….. $
Absolutely true ….I agree
I completely agree with Nair ji………recession is not the cause of unemployment. To some extent, those unemployed people themselves are responsible for their pitiable condition and well I can”t refute there are many loopholes in our system too which are the real grounds of the problem. Almost everyday somehow we struck up this matter in the clg. Deepi, we can”t change the mentality of politicians. It’’s really very shameful. the progress of the country depends on the policies n laws made by Government. If our authority doesn”t work sincerely, we can”t do much. What we can do is to bring change on our own. India needs a revolution…….it would happen for sure. I feel our generation understands each n every problem of our motherland so WE”LL BRING THE CHANGE. ” BE THE CHANGE”.
aye U my dear frnd Deepika……..dont loose hope n faith in indian policy………..afterall isne bailgaadi mei janm liya hai……aur dekhthe hi dekhthe hum yaha tuk aa pahunche hai………aage bhi der hai par andher nahi dear………..love India…….ur passion may bring ur hope to succed rapidly……..sometimes it happens……….thnx for such a nice post…………..good thought der frnd…….wish U all the best …….tc
deepika, unemployment and failure of education system are burning issues.ther is no need to link it up with recession..recession is real and it has come due to the total failure of mortgaging in US..they have invested almost 80000 crore in india in various sectors which they had to withdraw overnight..so all the co.s which were directly or undirectly related to US investment are facing recession world over due to lack of fund..on other side co.s who is not dependent on it are free of it…still the effect is there….i have stopped blaming politicians for failure of education system or unemployment b coz this is the only thing we are doing anyways..its our own country..why should we live it on politicians to find the solutions which they are never going to do!!..its time for our contribution, our involvement towards the solutions.we can try to become the solutions and not the blamegame.which is already there in enough qty..u raised the concerns nicely.we must start seeing solutions

hmm lifes like tht
You have opened up such a vital issue which is burning all over the India. Most probably you have righfully spoken that this is the failure of our education system. We should think over it, otherwise ……….. may God save us!
Jato e tumi faatao galaa , rakto tomaar sudhu jharbe……….Mithya aasyaase ora , raajnitir maar pyache ,kaalo paahar ora gorbe…..Sab kichhu r sesh aachhe go , deri nei aaschhe sei din ………Gorje uthbo aamra sabaai , bhaang bo sab baadha , baanabo oder kafeen.
Hmm… Burning Issue… thought provoking…. as usual bhalo likhecho..
This is a ground reality and i do agree with you…..its only for the lower middle class people.
so nicely write-up
Absolutely true ….I agree 100%
I too read about this piece of news,it shocked me and brought me to ground reality.I agree with Hari Omji, there is a lot of disparity in our nation.
Your concern about the plight of lower middle class people is absolutely right, Deepika. Due to wrong policies of our successive governments, the gap between rich and poor is increasing day by day and there are glaring disparities of incomes in India, perhaps more than any other nation in the world. Some of the world’’s richest as well as majority of the poorest live in this country. With skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, a lower middle class family’’s all income is absorbed in arranging for food, conveyance and clothings and they always remain in deprived condition …….. thanks for such a meaningful post, Deepika.
u r right Deepika……………Recession is only for the poor………….and boon for the rich………..this is the present day reality
Deepika, your post is so nicly frame & well described that there is no scope to comments.
A ground reality..very relevant thoughts…congrat Deepika for your genuine concern for the fellow citizens…
Great..Keep it up
first a very good post……………..and yeah its actually the education system which has failed…and frankly speaking the corporates are hiding and using the blanket of recession to curtail and now streamline their otherwise exorbiant expenses / excess human resources………..so a good time to do that in name of recession…………..and actually speaking money is flowing the same way……and the lack of proper distribution of opportunities makes it worst
I thought, I am only your friend,
But behind you, I found a large crowd.
I complained to God, but realised,
he was too in the que………….It’’s really nice 2 have a frienf like u.
Hi donot forget 2 visit my ILAND & have a look & post a comment on my new post,. Have a nce day…………..
