JAIPUR: Police on Wednesday arrested one Rajesh Das (30), native of Bihar for raping and murdering a three-year-old girl in an underconstruction building in Pratap Nagar. He has been booked under Section 302, 201, 376 of IPC.
According to reports, the victim Geeta was abducted by an unknown miscreant on Saturday. Next morning, a woman spotted Geeta’s body on the first floor of the E-block and informed her parents. She was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared her brought dead. Police had rounded up three persons, who were working as labourers in same building.
During investigation, police found blood stains on Rajesh’s clothes. The clothes were sent for lab tests and the stains matched with the blood and viscera samples of the victim.
After strenuous interrogation, Rajesh finally confessed to his crime. He said he had consumed liquor with a friend, and later that night tried to rape his daughter, but she started crying. Rajesh then left his daughter and went to other block of apartment where he abducted Geeta.

The seven Indian
Union Carbide India Ltd (UCIL) officials convicted in the 26-year-old Bhopal
gas tragedy case have been granted bail and released on submission of a surety
of Rs 25,000 by a trial court in Bhopal, according to a Times Now report.
Earlier on Monday, eight accused, one of whom is
deceased, were sentenced to two years in prison for causing death due to
negligence.
Reacting to the development, representatives of
the tragedy’s victims and their families who have been protesting outside the
court, said they would approach the Madhya Pradesh High Court to allow the
slapping of more stringent charges against all those accused in the case.
The Magistrate court in Bhopal on Monday convicted
all eight Indians accused in the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy case. A Rs 500,000
fine has been imposed on UCIL.
Toxic gas leak from a Union Carbide pesticide
factory in 1984 killed thousands and left an unspecified number battered with
diseases and deformity - the toll of victims is still rising.
Despite Monday’s conviction, there is little
closure for victims. Legal experts have alleged that there was an attempt to
cover up the case. It took the CBI three long years to file a chargesheet that
many believed was weak. Then in 1996 the charges were watered down making all
sections carry the maximum punishment of 2 years.
The charges were also all bailable and with the
prime accused in the case - former Union Carbide (USA) chairman Warren Anderson
still on the run and unlikely to present himself in Indian court, there is
little hope that justice will be served.

Hello,
Here below I am posting the mail I got from Mr. Simon Gammell (Director,British Council,West India). This has been an effort of Mr. Jayam Ramnath (ramnath.rajaram@gmail.com) (rjayam.rediffiland.com). Post name -BCL Agitation= (The British Council Library) Dated-1/Dec/2009. Please do visit
Dear Ms Shelly
Your enquiry about the coming changes to the British Council library services in Mumbai has been referred to me.
The British Council is proud of the long tradition of our library in Mumbai and of the contribution we have made to the cultural and intellectual life of this great city over the past 60 years. Our library collection is a unique resource of great value to students, professionals and readers of every type ' and it is our firm intention to ensure that this continues.
Our new on-line browsing / home delivery library service will make this invaluable collection available to the thousands of people who are currently denied access simply because they cannot easily reach our physical library at Nariman Point. Our innovation is a logical and progressive response to the way Mumbai has expanded and decentralised in recent years. Fifteen years ago there were over 28,000 members of our library in Mumbai; today there are fewer than 4,500 members (and falling). By making the library accessible to people throughout Mumbai, we expect to reverse this trend, which will in turn enable us to further develop the collection for the benefit of all readers ' and secure its future.
It is only possible to implement the new MyLibrary service if we discontinue the traditional physical library. The British Council has never made money from its libraries and we will continue to put subsidy into running the new library service. However, the cost to us of running both the traditional and new services in parallel would be far too great. We recognise that the loss of the physical library is disappointing to some of our members (though we know that the majority of current members support our innovation). We are offering assistance to all our members to make the transition to the new service. It is worth noting that the new on-line catalogue website will include a wealth of information about each book and also community features such as readers' reviews and recommendations, and virtual book clubs. This goes some way to replicating the browsing and networking features of a traditional physical library.
In addition to making the catalogue off physical books accessible to everyone throughout Mumbai, the new MyLibrary service will offer a new collection of over 40,000 e-books. This collection comprises academic and reference material, and the e-book format is ideal for students and professionals wishing to undertake research just as physical books are ideal for readers seeking relaxation or inspiration. It's a powerful combination for a contemporary library, which greatly increases the value of our collection.
I hope this note helps to clarify how our new library service will allow us to maintain and further develop our unique collection of books and also make it fully accessible to people throughout Mumbai - and so make an even greater contribution the reading culture of Mumbai.
