My new workplace being far from the City lacks a planned transport system, although things are ‘improving’. I had 2 choices when i moved in, either use Office transportation or Moffusil/State transport. The former taking 20 minutes but requiring at least 1km of walking from home to the pick-up point or the latter with a commute time of 90minutes for 15 kms(!).
With work offlate spilling to late hours, i did have to walk a number of days before i decided on buying a used vehicle or buy a new vehicle. Finances being they are, i decided on a buying a new cycle to commute.
So there i was, having bought a new Tubes India Hercules Flash at 3.2K, cycling to work. The commute daily-distance of 10km) takes me about 50 minutes to and 40 minutes back. The ORR from Nanjangud to the Hunsur Road being a part of the journey. So for the last 10 days, i have commuted 200+km. Being December, the weather moderates the exhaustion, and with negligible suburban traffic, i at ease on the 80ft roads. the ORR is well lit at night(albeit after 18:40) and makes for a nice commute back home.
Key points to plan along the Commute:
- Good Saddle/seat.
- Know the route and places to stop at night.
- Winterwear and a Helmet.
- Water.
So here i am, cycling. Hope to ‘inspire’ a few souls to change their mode of commute.
