Will this State Ban India?

In the NDTV show last evening, Aamir Khan came across as a sincere, committed, patriotic Indian citizen while putting forth his points regarding the Fanaa controversy. How I wish some of our ‘netas’ were more like our ‘abhinetas’…..(read Aamir, Amitabh, the late Sunil Dutt…..).

In Aamir’s case, it is clearly a case of a political party and state machinery going to any extent possible to muzzle any voice even if it is remotely seen to be questioning the policies of the state. If this is the treatment meted out to a person who is an icon in many respects, I shudder to think what will happen to a common man who dares to question the Governments’ policies. To all you who wondered how it must have been to live in Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy, you dont have to go far — just head westwards and you will know.

A sample of the headlines which we are likely to see in the next few days……

01) State bans all Coca Cola drinkers from living in / entering the state…..

02) State bans all Titan watch users from living in / entering the state…..

03) State bans the Supreme Court of India since the court is ‘pro rehabilitation’ (which means it must be ’anti dam’ and ‘anti people of the State)….

04) State bans Prime Minister  since he is not ‘anti NBA’ which means………(you know what I mean)…..

05) All visitors into this State will be allowed entry only if they fill the new State Entry Permit where you will need to clearly state if you are ‘pro Aamir/anti Aamir, ’pro Coke/anti Coke’, ’pro Titan/anti Titan’ etc. etc………….. (Not sure though how they will treat combinations - if you are anti Aamir but pro coke - whats’ the rule??)

06) As a majority of Indians are seen to be supporting Aamir on the Fanaa issue, State bans India…….!!

Adios……………

On Remarks, Water Logic and Rock Logic

Brian Lara’s comment, that it was Greg Chappell’s ’sly’ (as described in the newspapers) remark (”the Windies have forgotten to win”) that motivated the West Indies to pull up their socks and go all out for a win, is interesting to say the least.

This is not the first time that Greg’s remarks (bordering on provocation) have been inimical to the Indian team. The instances where he has shot off his mouth only to issue a rejoinder later or have himself reined in by the board, administrators etc. are well documented.

Chappell who is a self confessed follower of the works & principles of Edward De Bono (remember the lectures to the the Indian team on the ‘Six Thinking Hats’) would do well to read Bonos’ works on Rock Logic and Water Logic. Broadly, rock logic denotes inflexibility, the inability to mould ones’ thoughts, responses, actions in response to changes in the ground reality. It also indicates a total reluctance to introspect and revisit a point of view if the situation demands the same. Water logic is the exact opposite. It indicates a flexibility of thought - the way water takes the shape of the vessel it is in unlike a rock which just cant’ mould itself to the shape of the vessel. Bono is a great proponent of Water Logic and goes on to say that Rock Logic is responsible for all the conflicts which are affecting society today.

Isnt’ it strange that Ganguly seems to be following the water logic (working on his fitness, playing county cricket, expressing his complete support to Dravid, showing his willingess to play any role in the team) while Chappell is unable to change his rock logic when it concerns Ganguly and Laxman?? Think about it………..!

Blogging is great fun and I do hope the guys who read this will write back with their comments and counterpoints.

Mr. More, Mr Chappell, Mr. Dravid - You Owe us Some Answers!

This was waiting to happen. The pigheadedness and inflexibility shown by our selectors and one Mr Greg Chappell had blown up on its’ face and we have been beaten in a series which we SHOULD have won 5-0 or 4-1!

Let’’s face it - this team is over-reliant on Dravid and Yuvraj for its” batting; Sehwag’s odd 50 amongst 15 failures cant’ hide the fact that most decent bowling attacks have sorted him out.

Kaif plays too scratchily and slowly to get his fifties and then promptly gets out - a guy playing 90 odd balls with a strike rate of 60 cannot be considered a pillar in the middle order; also in this series he must have been dropped at least 15 times in his three innings put together - maybe the Windies dropped him on purpose - as long as he was there; scratchily putting together his runs and running a few guys out, things were going quite well for the Windies!

As far as Raina is concerned, he needs more time to become an integral part of this middle order.

WHAT IS VENUGOPAL RAO DOING IN THIS ONE DAY SIDE????? He cant” get the ball off the square unless he plays at least 30 balls; he is not a great fielder or bowler…so why in God’’s name do we force him into the one day side and shatter his confidence?? Isnt” it obvious that he is a test cricket material?

Is he better in the one day game than:-

a Sourav Ganguly with 20+ centuries who is cooling his heels and punished beyond all reason for his verbal indiscretion in Zimbabwe??

- a V V S Laxman with 6-7 centuries who has won crucial matches for India with his batting? Is his fielding and running between the wickets really so bad???

- a Dinesh Mongia - a solid, accomplished, technically sound batsman who is doing very well for Leicestershire; and one who has been given a raw deal by our selectors? Its’ too much to always expect Dhoni and Pathan to bail us out with their batting.

What we have now is a batting line up which is high on fitness, enthusiasm and fielding abilities but woefully short of the cricketing skills needed to win one day games when a couple of key guys fail. You can keep matchwinners like Ganguly and Laxman out if you have 11 matchwinners; but tell me - is Kaif in his present “scratch” version a match winner? Is Venugopal Rao a matchwinner? In the bowling department I can understand Pathan, Sreesanth and Munaf getting the nod ahead of Zaheer; but R P Singh?? surely Zaheer is better..! Agarkar’’s excellent performance should reinforce the fact that you must not leave proven performers like Zaheer with 100+ wickets in tests and one dayers, by the wayside.

Its’ all very well to focus on the future, but at what cost? Should we forget about the present while focussing only on the future? Mr More, Mr Chappel, Mr Dravid - you certainly owe us some answers……!!
