Blackwill’s spin

After an interlude of a few months, Robert Blackwill, former US ambassador to Delhi and a veteran of the US security establishment is back with his Plan B for Afghanistan. Blackwill’s thesis is that the US forces should vacate the south and east of Afghanistan and let the Taliban take control over the region while putting up new NATO ‘defence lines’ in the northern and western regions of Afghanistan. How this serves the struggle against terrorism he doesn’t say. Can it be that the US is abandoning Pakistan and India to the wolves and preparing to defend China, Russia and Iran?
Blackwill plan is integral to the TAPI gas pipeline project. Its focus is on securing the route through which the pipeline passes or is fed. Additionally, a rationale is being created for the open-ended stay of the NATO forces in the regions bordering China and Iran by projecting it as in the best interests of regional stability.

There is a growing faction in American strategic thinkers who want to again use Pakistan Taliban against Russia, Iran and if possible against China from that border region. They now want to co opt Taliban by handing them Southern Afghanistan.
