Moral malfunction

The spate of wardrobe malfunctions at the Lakhme Fashion Week seem to have got Mumbai’s moral brigade all hot under the collar.
Here’s an excerpt from a report in this morning’s Hindustan Times:
‘Repeated wardrobe malfunctions at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) have cheesed off the Mumbai police. In fact, the police's Social Service Branch isn't even sure they were ‘malfunctions.’ So, they’re going to ask LFW organisers to clarify whether Carol Gracias’ dress falling off and Gauhar Khan’s skirt coming apart were mere accidents or deliberate publicity stunts.
DCP (Enforcement) Sanjay Aparanti, who heads the special branch entrusted with the upkeep of public morals and women's is sues, says the incidents are ‘wrong, unethical and immoral.’ That’s a lot of adjectives. But he has more: ‘This is derogatory to the morality of every woman and society at large.’ Speaking to HT on Friday, Aparanti said LFW organisers should have been extra careful after the first ‘malfunction’ on Wednesday,’ the paper reports.
I would love to be a fly on the wall when Mr Apranti seeks clarifications from the organisers.
Just who are these guys? Why don’t they crawl back into their caves?

    Hello,

It is in great disgust i am writing this email to

We all know TOI is not strong in delhi so Benett & Coleman is playing a
    wonderful game by Supporting
the Delhi fashion week and degrading the Bombay Lakme fashion week.

    Proof of this is
    1) Times Now Channel only featured negative reviews about Lakme and
    did’nt budge to degrade Bombay.
    2) Bombay times had very few and only negative reviews about lakme
    Week.
    3) They clearly were highlighting that “Bombay Fashion Week” had very
    few good desginers.

I think they forgot : RITU beri, Suneet Verma, Sabysachi, Wendell, Ahish
Soni were all in Bombay Week.

Guys, so lets start the protest. Let us now goto a rival newspaper to
    overcome this Bias approach by
a foolish company. They forgot that, it was us who made them and now
    lets start to Dethrone them.
Btw Hindustan Times’s Bombay edition rocks.

Vineet Jain’s latest ploy is clearly in bad taste.

The 60000 crore taxes were paid in Mumbai but not by Mumbai.
Companies pays the taxes in Mumbai (many have their corporate offices
here). But actual earnings happens in Orissa, Jarkhand, to some extant
the southern states. Comparison based on the taxes paid is illogical.
Mumbai should get the infrastructure, it requires to make it a true global
    hub.

  3. Ashish says

How *daft*. All he’s doing is comparing affluent areas which, usually,
have better infrastructure (however meagre) than the rest of the city
    (again, for obvious reasons).
And yet, even THEN South Mumbai pales in comparison to South Delhi.
Also, “monstrosity” is, as far as I can tell, linked to his not-so-later usage
of the word “heritage”. I’m not sure how much of THAT is north of Mahim
(and don’t say Jogeshwari caves etc etc. If you’ve been there, you’ll
know that it’s all been encroached by squatters for a while… Try looking
for tenants in Humayan’s Tomb! Tell me if you find any.)

Double Standards… Who is going 2 make the first Move ? That is the
    question

Well said. Actually I am from Delhi but i too was rudely shocked when
Sanghvi said that compared to development in south delhi the
development in south mumbai is nil. I mean it appears he wouldnt really
care one way or the other if say east delhi goes to dogs. actually
upmarket journos like sanghvi spend most of their time in upmarket
areas like south delhi, south mumbai etc., if not in the south of england
or france. In delhi actually most middle class journos live in east delhi but
they hardly write anything about east delhi. they mostly wax eloquent
about places like like qutub colonnade where bina ramani and her ilks
rule. actually people who read delhi editions of english newspapers think
that nothing ever exists on the eastern bank of the jamuna. I am
gratified to learn that there are similarly aggreived citizens in other
metropolitan cities too. I invite sanghvi to try cross the jamuna once. its
not that bad really you see. Its not the styx you are crossing. please try.

i don’t understand this. if u don’t want the “moral brigade” to define
morality, why define things urself? how do u decide something is vulgar
and something is “bold”? how do u define something is offensive to
women and something an “expression of feminism”? isn’t everything
subjective then? u call them “cave-men” for having a rigid outlook…what
makes u more liberal than them when all u want to do is what u want to
do n not listen to any other view ??

Im not saying what happened in IFW was a conspiracy..or an accident.
But instead of criticizing what happened, u r sitting n enjoying the
show !! what makes u liberal then ? seeing women naked on ramp?
hearing abt them breaking down backstage and saying “its a part of the
business”? making gossip ? is tht entertainment for u?

let fashion shows go on..i dont really care if they do..but atleast dont
glamourize it so much in media as for children to see & knw it..is tht too
much to ask? i think thts a “liberal” request !

What is Moral ? or to be precise Morality ? After reading your article I did
a little research concerning moral and morality on the net. This is what I
    found.
‘Morality, in the strictest sense of the word, deals with that which is
regarded as right or wrong. The term is often used to refer to a system
of principles and judgments shared by cultural, religious, secular (e.g.
Humanist) and philosophical communities who share concepts and
beliefs, by which people subjectively determine whether given actions
    are right or wrong.’
But the burning question is who decides morality ? Are the people who
decide morality themselves moral ? Who questions their morality ? Have
they never seen a blue film ? Have they never lusted after sexy women
wearing skimpy things walking across streets ? I think these people are
just great actors wearing the masks of morality. Inside everybody is the
same. They must be getting the same hard - on as I get when I see a
naked woman and they enjoy it as much.
