Dandi Maar di
Yesterday I was at home in Ghaziabad on weekend.
Me, my mother, my younger brother - Aditya and my cousin - Runjhun were sitting together and having kharbooja among ourselves.Somebody had come in to meet papa so he was missing from the group.
Adi also comes on weekend from AIIMS, he is in First year of MBBS and we are kinda proud of the lad ‘cos he was the sixth ranker in AIIMS and First Rank Holder in Delhi PMT etc etc………….so one can imagine whenever he is back at home he is treated as raja……….not that we mind but then he is an overgrown kid…………7 years difference between both of us.
So back to muskmelon………….mummy was pissed off at the fruit seller because he was not weighing properly at the time of purchase………..the scales were not being balanced as usual…………
While peeling off the kharbooja mummy casually commented - “bahut ki bekar sabjiwala thaa, baar baar dandi maar raha thaa.”
Now when she said that dandi maar raha tha she meant that seller did not weigh the fruit properly and its was less in quantity…………..look what happens when u did not understand the implication…………….
Runjhun hails from kanpur and she stays with us as she is doing her graduation from here. When my mom said dandi maar di…………she went point blank and said - ” dandi maar di, aapko.”
Adi and myself burst out laughing![]()
Adi - “haan dandi maar di or yeh toh bewakoof hain ki dandi khane ke baad bhi usse kharbooje kahreed layin”
Mummy , me and adi could not stop laughing and we had to explain her what it meant……….
The whole day we kept her teasing -”dandi maar di”
hey u live in ghaziabad??
