I am tagged!

I have been tagged! My friend Alakananda (http://alakananda.blogspot.com/) conferred this honour on me the other dayJ When I got the message, I was delighted for sure, but then didn't know what to do after that! With some helping hands, I eventually worked my way through the labyrinth of the blogsphere. Thank you Alakananda!

So, here I go!

Three things that scare me

  1. Policemen ' rather anyone in kahki

  2. Expectations (of others, from me, of course!)

  3. Insomnia

Three people who make me laugh

  1. Politicians - of all creed

  2. Hagar, the Horrible

  3. RK Laxman and his `unspeaking' Common Man (laugh and think too)

Three things I love

  1. Crossing into God's Own Country by Kerala Express, as the Sun rises over the Ghats

  2. The fragrance of Sandalwood soap

  3. Waking up on a wintry night, and hooray, it's only 230 am!

Three things I hate

  1. Crossing Palakkad Junction by Kerala Express, as the Sun sets over the Ghats

  2. My own words, but when others mouth them ' and get credit for that!

  3. My black shoes getting soaked in muddy waters

Three things I don't understand

1.      How our people, election after election, can vote into office the same old goons and goondas

2.      The Captain's announcements from the cockpit ' all gibberish!

3.      Why it's called `common sense' when it is the most `uncommon' thing around!

Three things on my desk

1.      A beautiful, bluish cut-glass paperweight, with a flower engraved inside ' not less than 70 years' old ' which originally was on my grandfather's table

2.      An equally vintage Chambers 20th Century Dictionary

3.  An exquisite Lace (crochet craft) table cover

Three things I am doing right now

1.      Worrying, generally, about everything around me, and more specifically whether my sensitive throat will give in to the virus

2.      Wondering, why the Very Very Special Vengarappu Sai Laxman is not in the Indian Cricket Team for the World Cup

3.      Working up an appetite

Three things I want to do before I die

1.      Visit `Lido' in Paris J

2.      Stand in for the traffic cop at Vijay Chowk on Rajpath, from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate!

3.      Watch Roger Federer, preferably at The Championship (Wimbledon, for the uninitiated)

Three things I can do

1.      Listen patiently to someone even while working on the next post in my mind ' and giving my considered views to the one sitting in front

2.      Embarrass myself when caught at (1) above

3.      Say, "I will try to help out", genuinely at that, even when I know full well it is beyond me!

Three things you should listen to

1.      John Denver, singing "Take me home, country roads "

2.      My son, when he describes the many shots he played in the school cricket match ' even Sachin Tendulkar can get `a complex'!

3.      Announcements at Indian Railway Stations ' that is, if you can still hear them!

Three things you should never listen to

1.      Rabble-rousers, irrespective of their political/religious affiliations

2.      In-house gossip mongers and assorted `experts' at work place

3.      Middle-men, whatever that means!

Three things I'd like to learn

1.      To keep smiling, even when I am seething inside ' just because I happen to be on the other side of the table!

2.      To press my pants, without spoiling the crease

3.      To do the Rubik's Cube

Three favourite books (tough call here!)

English

1.      To Kill a Mocking Bird

2.      Zorba, the Greek
