Am moving house today. Chaos and madness reign supreme. Tempers are frayed. Everyone has an eye on the movers and packers to make sure that their pet item gets transported without any damage. My camera, my photo albums, my wine glasses, my CDs, my watches
And then I discover an old shoe box with memories - brought from all previous trips. A pass to enter the beautiful udaipur palace, a birthday card from a crush at school, a pine tree corn from a trip up north, my sister's coin and pebble collection, a brochure from a Jagjit Singh concert I am surrounded by all the things that my family has collected over the years. They all represent something held dearly to each one of them. My mom is retired but she retains all her pay slips, my fathers and his files of old tel and electricity bills, his children’s' old report cards (though none of us want to see them again), papers of the first house he brought 30 years ago, a dry fruits dabba that his office gifted on a new year some generations ago
Am reminded of a trite saying ' a house is built of walls and a home is built of hearts. Corny but seems so true
We are only moving house but are carrying our home with us. Wherever we may go
of course we carry our home and memories wherever we go.thanx for sharing
some notes bring a lot of memories…which are common to all…
nice, a small writng, carry a lot of pain…
some animals carry their house along (snail etc) and some (we people) carry our home along (memories). Nice one
It was very touching and moving.
in last 12 years i have moved 12 times…sometimes, within 2 months
(from Lucknow to Ranchi) and other times even in 24 days(from Guwahati to Delhi).
Understand the pain….!
Brilliant……

hi priya,

Hi, the most important thing however is to realise that no matter where we go we make it our home…..all people are the same , all places live-able , new experiences make life so rich…..I would know…have been shifting every 2-3 years…..cheers !
Hi priya, persons live in a house make it a home.u r going with ur familymembers.so u r going to create new sweet memories in ur new house.and oneday ur new house will turn into ur HOME SWEET HOME.bye take care.
””we are moving our house but we are carrying our home with us whereever we go”” -and with this sentence u have moved so many hearts too, so well said……..
well said Priya..
its so rightly said—— Home is where the heart is !!!!!! i have had so many memories stored up in my heart. my father being in d army has had so many houses and mind u so many different cities . Each city n each city has given us new experience n so many memories!!!!!!!!!! Yaadein , bus yaadein reh jaati hain……………
We had similar experiences. But to overcome this problem & the attached emotions, keep changing the house/home very frequently so that, you have so many of these attachments, you will not miss only one but many & the attachment will be divided into many.
so you are “moving house” ?? mean moving the house from one place to another ?? My god ! so much of power you have?? :))
btw …would n”t it been better if it were…” shifting to new house” or “moving to new house” ??.. take care….:)
True…hope u like the new place..and m sure u will turn it to a home soon…….keep posting
You have put everybody’’s feeling in right words. Congrats. Thank you. This kind of writing reminds us lot of things we left behind in life which we never wanted to forget.
its true, its true…. its very true——it is very very true yaaar
its true, its true…. its very true
It’’s true….
Bricks and Mortar stay put, so what do packers and movers do, Still I pay them for their toil, my most precious memories I carry, single.
well i share this view on home and a house
Very well said. I know the difference between house and home as I am in a transferable job.Lovely post.
It’’s true.
I liked the quote “a house is built of walls and a home is built of hearts” - so true - we too have moved house so many times but have always carried our home with us!

Memories and moments attached to the home.
For the very reason my mom didnt want to move to a new home , when my dad left to heavenly abode…Still live in our old home. lovely post
a home is the place we live with our loved ones where ever it is.,to move with them and their memory do enhance our courage. good luck priya
Short, and crip, and touchy. Really loved this post.
those petty things which we dont need now are our life.must be treasured. they dont occupy much space. they have value( priceless) for us only and for no one else in the family.
i am keeping them with a hope that i will get sometime(few days) some day to be with myself and my sweet memories. good memories are to be cherished for ever.
Hey… this reminds me of how each time when i am sorting my book shelf i get lost in memories… u”ve just inspired me to write something. very well put. keep writing
