Jaane Kyun Dil Jaanta Hai

From the title of the blog, you must have guessed what I am
going to talk about. Yeah, I am going to talk about the movie Dostana, having
Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Dostana is
a zara-hatke and at least one-time watch movie.

Story:

Abhishek and John are in the U.S. They do not have any place to
stay and they are looking for a home on rent. Coincidentally, both of them land
up at the same landlady’s house. The landlady tells them that she cannot give
her house on rent to guys. The reason being that a girl (baby) lives there
alone and she does not want to take any kind of risk with guys. Abhishek and
John are desperate for a house. Therefore, they pretend to the landlady that
they are gays and are in love. They will not be attracted towards the baby and,
in fact, they will protect her. So, they
get the house on rent. The baby turns out to be sexy Priyanka Chopra. Priyanka
has good looks, good figure, and very cooperative. Therefore, both of them
start falling in love for her. However, they cannot afford to tell this to
Priyanka. So, the three of them become
the best friends. One day, they go to the immigration office. There, Priyanka
tells them to fill their forms as gay couple so that they can get immigrant
status in just 1 year. They submit the form. However, Abhishek’s acknowledgement
of application goes to her mother’s home at London. She immediately rushes to Priyanka’s
home and tries to separate Abhishek and John. However, Priyanka convinces
Abhishek’s mother to accept John as her bahu. She obliges. Meanwhile, Priyanka’s
job in a magazine is not going the right way. Her boss is leaving the company.
Instead of promoting Priyanka, her boss brings a new head, which is Bobby Deol.

Priyanka is dejected. She tells Abhishek and John that she
wants promotion and wants to marry a hunk. Then there appears a twist in the
movie. Bobby asks Priyanka to redesign the cover of the magazine in 15 days
flat. Priyanka feels that she will be fired any time. However, John and
Abhishek help Priyanka in redesigning the cover and it becomes a big hit. Bobby
publicly appreciates Priyanka. Priyanka feels that he has found Mr. Right in Bobby
and they start loving each other. However, John and Abhishek are not amused
because their love for Priyanka has gone north. They ask Bobby to do funny
things due to which Priyanka gets upset. Bobby tells Priyanka that John and
Abhishek have asked him to do these funny things. Priyanka discusses the issue
with John and Abhishek and they agree to leave Priyanka and Bobby alone. Bobby
has a 5-year-old child. Bobby has made up his mind to propose to Priyanka at a
basketball match. At that time, John and Abhishek tells Bobby’s child not to
accept Priyanka as her mother because she will turn out to be rude towards her.
Priyanka gets the feeling that Bobby will propose her. She asks John and
Abhishek whether she should say yes. John and Abhishek break down and tell her
that they are not gays and tell her that they love her deeply. At the same
time, Bobby’s child starts crying and asks him not to propose to Priyanka.
Bobby does just that. Priyanka is dejected and throws John and Abhishek out of
her home because they lied to her.

After some time, John and Abhishek meet at the immigration
office where they are officially declared as a gay couple. They decide to
apologize to Priyanka, their best friend. They meet Priyanka and Bobby at a fashion
show and tell Bobby that they told a lie to Bobby’s child that Priyanka would
be cruel. However, Priyanka and Bobby just cannot forgive them. John and
Abhishek beg for forgiveness. Bobby asks them to kiss each other. After much
resistance, John kisses Abhishek on his lips. Priyanka gets married to Bobby
and the film ends.

Good points:

1. The
   idea is new.
2. The
   song “Jaane Kyun Dil Jaanta Hai” makes you feel very relaxed. It is an
   ever-green song.
3. John
   and Abhishek have done good justice to their rules. Even Priyanka has
   performed brilliantly.
4. Two
   scenes in this movie are definitely going to make you laugh a lot: One,
   when Abhishek’s mother see Abhishek dancing hand-in-hand with Priyanka’s
   boss and John dancing vigorously with the immigration officer. Two, when
   Bobby asks John and Abhishek to kiss each other and they are very hesitant.

Bad points

1. This
   film is not really about gays. It is a movie about two men who pretend to
   be gays. Therefore, it has a more commercial angle to it than a social
   angle.
2. Only
   one song is good. The rest are okay-okay.
3. I
   wonder why Bobby Deol has not been included in the promos. He has a major
   role to play and he deserves good publicity.
4. The
   second half becomes somewhat boring.
