It’s written…I won the Quiz

Neeraj Jain, March 9, 2009
It’s written…Destiny. These were the words that summed up the complete story of the 8-Oscar winning Danny Boyle’s movie “Slumdog Millionaire”.

I also had a similar experience at the Great Indian Place Mall, Noida. Sony Pix was organizing a quiz on Hollywood and I came forward to take part in this quiz. I can count the number of Hollywood films that I have seen on my fingers. I have seen only a few but I just wanted to have fun and give it a chance.

As it usually happens in a mall the quizmaster was a gorgeous lady and my competitor was also a young lady. First turn for answering questions was hers. My competitor was also not good in Hollywood and both of us were playing only on chance. Good for me :)

First round: Three verbal questions
She guessed 2 of them right and got 20 points
I could guess only 1 and so 10 points

Second round: Five questions pertaining to five different movies. Still images were shown on a Sony TV.

Both could not get any question right. All our guesses went wrong.

I was feeling little uneasy. I was still lagging behind. However, the quizmaster told us that the last question is of 20 points and I still had the chance. I was relieved.

Third round: A video question. Asked to identify the movie
Her turn: She guessed it wrong.
My turn: This was my last and the only chance to beat her. I concentrated hard on movie but was unable to come up with the name of the movie. The quizmaster gave me four options. I looked at the quizmaster amazingly and then at the audience. I wanted someone to prompt. This was a do-or-die battle for me. One of the persons in the audience silently said “d”. I could read his lips. He was looked educated.

I shouted “d”. Guess what? The quizmaster congratulated me and told me that I am the winner. I got a Hancock DVD and the people clapped for me. Wow! So you see, it’s all written.

Just believe in Karma.

I know that some of you must have won a quiz/competition. Please do share your thoughts/comments/opinions. Friends, I would love to hear from you.
