Raja, can u tell me the reason why \’Pulp Fiction\’ should beat
    \’Shawshank
Redemption\’(I rate it one of the best movies ever made in the last
decade) and \’Forrest Gump\’?…I think neither John Travolta nor Tom
Hanks can take charisma away from the fine performer like Morgan
Freeman. Everyone is critic in his/her own way. And according to me
ratings for that year would have been like this: 1. Shawashank
Redemption 2. Forrest Gump 3. Pulp Fiction 4. Quiz Show 5. Four
    Weddings and A Funeral

  2. SATAN says

Dont argue with IDIOTS…coz they pull you down to your level and then
    beat u with their expierience.

Raja, you are stupid….very very rarely in an endearing way…..but
otherwise utterly stupid! Somehow you have come to believe that the
more you write provocatively, more will be the peple reading you (forrest
gump vs. pulp fiction is again the same). Also your personal tastes are
clearly evident in all the bullshit that you write. You dont deserve to be
on rediff which is otherwise a very good and quality site. Yor are
    probably the only blot.

    hi RAJA,
I have been regularly reading your columns for sometime now. Though I dont always agree with your views( Sarkar and Salaam Namaste were definitely very watchable films) I like the way you never forget to give credit to movies that havent got their due. I too really liked Socha Naa Tha for its simplicity and easy dialogue. Thank God someone agrees with me on this movie. Shaan is also very high on my timepass flicks list.
As for the Oscars it had to be Crash…big stars, topical issue, great ensemble….Brokeback is too path-breaking to get the Academy’s nod.

Tom Hanks is a goofball, John travolta rocks.. john travolta has played roles so versatile you cant
    even imagine.
    A gangster - pulpfiction, musical - saturday night fever/grease, army official - a civil action/ broken
arrow(villian), alien, cop, angel with wings-phenomenon, he’s been a cowboy and a lawyer in the
same year hes been a father and a playuh… now lets see what tom hanks has done other than
    being the
average male that falls in love with a very beautiful girl.. and goes nuts at times..
Pulp fiction started a whole new genre of films, guy ritchie took it to a different level with lock stock
and two smoking barrels, but the truth is there is noway mr.gump the sympathy hog is better than
    travolta in pulp fiction.
The only reason i see why mr.gump got the awards is because while he was begging for sympathy
he was also waving the american flag throught the movie, not to mention being backed by JFK with
    shitty graphics.

Whoever thinks Forest gump is a better movie than pulp fiction or tom “give me sympathy” hanks is
a better actor than Travolta is a frog in a well.. It has been known for ever that everyt time an actor
wants an oscar they try to do films where they dying or someone they love is dying or both are ding
or they are nuts.. and to be honest, retarded wins over dying…

Sean penn - i am sam
    Forest Gump - Tom Hanks
My left Foot - Give me sympathy rrole
    Titanic - Everyone Dying
Jamie fox- I am blind give my sympathy
Jodie foster - I was raped give me sympathy
Russel Crowe - A beautiful mind
Nicole Kidman - The others.. boy that was a classic, she is already dead having kids that are dying.
Hillary swank - Million Dollar baby - she is dying
Sean Penn - Mystic River - my daughter died i am sad
Charlize theron - monster - do i need say more??

Now i think when we have a forest gump against pulp fiction, where in the fiction was more real
than the trying to be real mr.gump.

    Raja,
I read your comments on Oscar. Understood that critic has to go by what
HE thinks about movies and performances, but idea is to have high
standards for performance and then without ANY biases apply those
while judging a performance. The better that you do this, in my opinion
you are a better critic. I just can’t understand what makes you think
Forest Gump was a bad movie as compared to Pulp Fiction? Both were
good and were in different league.
Similarly your comments on Apaharan. You guys appreciate some pure
entertainer sometimes and give it 3.5 out of 5 or write a review with a
positive looking headline, but when you get a well made movie like
Apaharan, you try to do a thorough “chir-faad” of it giving us an
impression that probably that was the worst movie this year. You need
to look at the bigger picture while judging movies too. For e.g., for
Apaharan, first you could give a good picture and in addition add your
comments on what could have been better. You do the opposite.
