Outlook integration with sharepoint

Hi,

This post is a outcome of some rigorous research done on areas where we can integrate Office Outlook with SharePoint services and MOSS.
Since sharepoint is no more coming as single entity and instead it has become a member (collaborative) of office family. Hence it provides really tight integration with other office entities like excel, infopath and undoubtedly outlook.
So, to explore or to find the real truth I dive deep into this area and came up with some awesome results which I plan to share with you all from this platform.
Whenever I tried to search(I am god follower [Goggle Oriented Developer]) regarding this (Outlook integration with sharepoint) I use to come across some common topics like:

Calendar

Use calendars to schedule projects, appointments, and
milestones. A SharePoint Server 2007 calendar can be viewed side-by-side with
an Outlook 2007 calendar, or the two calendars can be overlaid to view all
items at once. You can drag an item to your Outlook 2007 personal calendar to
see it on a mobile device.

Task List

Use task lists to assign project duties and track them to
conclusion. Team members can see all project tasks in the Tasks window, or
can view tasks assigned only to them in the To-Do Bar.

Document Library

Team members use document libraries to preview, search,
and open project documents. Site members can edit documents locally or
offline. Office reminds members to update the SharePoint server with changes,
as necessary.

Discussion Board

Use Discussion Boards to discuss specific topics during
the course of a project. While e-mail discussions require participants to
find and sort many messages, Discussion Boards isolate messages for easy
tracking.

Contact List

Use Contact Lists to stay in touch with other team members
and with important people outside the team. And as one member adds contacts
to a list or edits it, the entire team gets the new information.

But haven’t found any article (neither on google nor on msdn and not even on office site) which specifies how to do the above and to what exetent can we go with this

So I decided to explore it solo handedly below are the result of same.

Identify sharepoint search scope

Hi,
Few days back I was struggling to find the kind of search scope which generated search request. (I will give details in some time)

After some analysis and googling I found few articles that proved savior for me. below are the urls for the same:

  2. Jose Barreto”s Blog
  3. QuickLinkManager Class

It hurts when using sessions in SharePoint

Why does it hurts when using sessions in SharePoint? The Cause: Since SharePoint doesnt require session state - there is nothing it stores there hence it is turned off.

How to Turn it On:
we can use session state in SharePoint but for that we need to change 2 settings in the web.config of web application.
1- search for the following line and uncomment it

2- search enableSessionState=”false” in page element and change it to
enableSessionState=”true”

What can be other Alternatives?

  • Environment variables
  • HttpContext.Current.Session under System.web namespace (In some cases it does not work)
  • Static variables the best way to work with
  • HashTable
  • Query Strings

Vertical Excel

Believe it or not, but life keeps on teaching you new things and makes you experience rollercoaster ride every now and then till the time god/nature takes it away from you.
I always tried to getaway from this but at no time I could this. Whenever I tried, I faced worst consequences. I had always found a great difference between my thinking, belief and the lessons that life taught me.
One of lesson that life taught me is 'Having vertical excellence (success, supremacy, prosperity in life) is fair easy as compared to maintaining the level of that vertical excellence'. Believe me I tried my level best to prove this wrong however, had failed like anything. You might be thinking that why am I talking like this but really friends this lesson has done great impact on me.
Just take example of mountain climber or trekker. Who when at bottom of hill/mountain has made his mind to surmount it; finds no aim or objective after reaching to its peak. The time he (the climber) reaches the highest peak his mind is full of joy, pride and supremacy. However, at that time, he simply forgets that now he can no further maintain that level, and by the time when he realizes that, then he has no option but to step down from that highest peak to the bottom, from where he actually started his mission. This indicates that, as high you move up that much you will have to step down once you reach your goal/ achieve the highest level of your ambition. Thus, there will be bare minimum changes that you will be able to maintain that apex level (or slightly below that) and that too for a certain time limit.
In such cases the climber tries to forget (or tries to reduce that impact), this realty by setting new targets to annex. Nevertheless, at every movement he has to face the same realty from which he is trying to run away. You might be thinking that why I am thinking so negative or have I became a cynical nut who is not looking/seeing the good part of the achievement. Hmm' may be you are true to certain level, but when you will look towards this example from the view that, I explained than; surely, you will get my point.
So moving towards the conclusion part, I would like to say that 'Never set your targets or goals in life to such a short level, that after achieving that you are not remain with any more goal'. This is because after annexing the target it becomes very tough to maintain that level also the spirit to maintain that level always get depleted as time passes and the same time new challenges keeps on emerging out.
The best examples to my support will the 'Global Economy Melt Down' :)

Debugging Javascript using vs.net

Hi all,
Recently I came across requirement for which I need to debug JavaScript using any editor.
So I Google a bit and found a great solution for this:

Steps

  1. Enable client-side script debugging in Internet Explorer
    1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. On the Advanced tab, locate the Browsing section, and uncheck the Disable script debugging check box, and then click OK.
    4. Close Internet Explorer.

  2. In your JavasSript function add the keyword debugger . This causes VS.NET to switch to debug mode when it runs that line.
  3. Run your ASP.Net application in debug mode.

below is the url for the same.

Purchasing Property

Hi,

So, many of you people will be dreaming about your own home in mega cities like mumbai, pune, Delhi blah blah…

And you are completely aware that you will definately need Loan (Home Loan) for making your dream come true.

Ok for those who are going for Home Loan I would like to give some tips right from how to approach to BANK till last payment for property.

  1. There are lot many financial institution, firms, govt & non-govt banks to whom we can approach for a loan.
  2. Now for Loan if you are planning to have applicant and co-applicant. Then we need to make sure that the bank or financial institution, firms to whom you will approach agrees to give loan for the relationship between the applicant and co-applicant. By that I mean to say Father/Mother-Son/Daughter, Husband-wife, brother/sister-brother/sister. Because some bank or financial institution/firms will not-at-all allow loan to brother/sister-brother/sister.
  3. Apart from this there is one more thing that we need to consider and that is the rate of interest charged against the loan amount. Generally Govt. Banks have less rate of interest as compared to their private counter part.
  4. Also one aspect we need to check is the type of loan we are going for i.e fixed or floating.
  • Fixed Rate:
    • Interest rate is bit high as compared to floating
    • The rate is reviewed after fixed duration (time span) e.g for 5 yrs 7 yrs.
    • The rate will not fluctuate for changes in market.
  • Floating Rate:
    • Interest rate is low as compared to fixed

    • The rate will fluctuate for changes in market
  1. Now before approaching any bank/financial
institution/firms make sure you have seen some good property and you
have made your mind to buy that. Because the loan approval certificate
issued by any bank is valid for some time period (usually 3- 6 months)
if we go for loan approval before looking for property. If it get
lapsed then we will require to re-generate. And for one approval certificate we will need to pay atleast 7,000-10,000 rs.
  2. Also make sure that you have complete documents of the property against which you will be claiming the loan. This is very very important factor or else you cannot claim for loan especially for govt. bank

Note: Processing and getting loan from private banks is very easy, but at cost of high interest rate, hidden cost, fooling tricks whereas getting loans from govt. banks is hard rock work, you need to have good enough petition and not to get frustrate on any foolish query of bank :)
