Career in Commerce Stream ' A Life line for many!!

May 18th, 2009

As one graduates from commerce stream after completing his/her B.Com/M.Com, students start thinking of enrolling themselves for the professional courses under the streams like CA ' CS ' CWA or MBA in Finance, CFA etc.
Though today the economy of the country is sounding speculative enough with no clear cut direction, career in commerce stream is still being seen as a “stream of choice” by students, at large.

With the global economy meltdown showing its flavour to all of us, it is being increasingly felt by students to watch for some time and make a second thought before going for a Master Degree in Finance from abroad as that entails a huge capital cost which may not fit in the pay off matrix in short term in student’s way.

This has even proved as a plus for career opportunities available in the country in Finance stream like CA, CS or CWA from respective institutes ICAI / ICSI / ICWAI.

Today, students have been enrolling for these career options as their career of choice as they have been doing in past. With the increasing efforts made by the governing bodies of these respective commerce courses to help the professionals have a better and enlarged market to serve it is being considered as a great move in favour of professionals of tomorrow.

With market speculations suggesting the economy to improve in net 3-5 years the situation of the commerce graduates will see a further upswing which is in all ways is a comfortable zone to be in for them today.

BE A SMART ACCOUNTANT

May 13th, 2009

Changing needs and requirement of the accounting profession not only keeps the accounting regulatory bodies on their toes to reflect the changes and enhanced requirements in their curriculum within time. The students of the accounting profession ie. Students of CA exams ' CS exams ' CWA exams and other accounting discipline examinations also feel the heat as they are also then expected to not only adhere to the changed student curriculum but as budding accountants and finance professionals they are also required to keep themselves updated with the recent happenings in the accounting world.

The need of the hour is not to be just an ACCOUNTANT but to be SMART Accountants! The accounting profession in India is facing a complete turnaround with the main thrust being laid down in bringing in more transparency and being universally acceptable.

Learning itself is witnessing and will be further demanding a different approach to it which again would be expected out of all (prospective chartered accountants, cost accountants, company secretaries etc) who wish to lead in the league which currently is undergoing a major turnaround. No one can develop smarter in a day or two.

The need for it is to be felt right from the stage when the tomorrow's accounting professionals (from governing bodies like ICAI, ICSI, ICWAI etc) are students of the professional courses being offered by these respective institutes.

To be smart you need to think smart, act smarter and believe yourself to be smartest! Changes can also not be implemented to its best in a sort span of time.

As a student of any discipline be it commerce graduates, degree holders etc. we have been largely being following the trends that have been going on from a decade. Most of us have been looking at the professional examinations as mere EXAMINATIONS! This seems to be the biggest mistake that most of us have been doing right from beginning. We need to understand that clearing these professional examinations by merely reading books, going for coaching classes in the reputed coaching centers in big cities like Delhi (New Delhi), Mumbai (Bombay), Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata (Calcutta) etc might not just be sufficient. All thee might help you also clear your  examinations but the big Question lies in whether ' This would help you come out as a
SMARTER accountant?

April 13th, 2009

Chartered Accountancy is amongst one of the widely accepted accounting profession in the corporate world that not only offers private practice opportunities to a qualified chartered accountant but it also opens up the opportunity to take up a job with a profile of choice. Such flexibility helps a CA to plan his/her career options in a more structured fashion as the profession gives the professional a chance to evaluate his/her interest areas and accordingly take up the job in the related field or else he has also the option to commence his own Practice in the accounting, taxation and other related areas.

Among the masses, though the general feedback is that Chartered Accountancy is one of the most difficult professional examinations to crack, however there is nothing which can be construed as a difficult task if pursued with the dedication and hard work which it calls for. In other words, Regularity and sincerity are the pillars of success for students pursuing CA ' CS ' CWA exam courses.

To begin with, a student needs to enroll with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ' ICAI for appearing in the first level i.e. the Common Proficiency Test also known as CPT after passing Class X exam conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto. Students can however appear for the CPT examination only after they appeared for their Senior Secondary Examination - (10+2).

After a student has cleared the CPT examination he/she needs to join the next level i.e. Professional Competence Examination - PCC. At the same time, the student also need to register for Articled
Training and also need to register for 100 hours of Information technology Training after passing CPT and 10+2 exam.

After clearing the PCC exam and fulfilling other mandatory criteria in respect of practical training etc a student need to register for the CA Final course and then appear for the Final examination which of now is also conduced twice a year i.e. in May and in November every year.

After the student has appeared for and cleared the CA Final examination, certificate of GMCS training need to be obtained from ICAI to enroll for membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

To facilitate students at large the Institute makes every attempt to make sure that the CA exams ' all levels (CPT ' PCC ' Final) are being conducted in all major cities across India which includes Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Patna, Indore and at various other cities and towns across India. A detailed listing of all centers for the CA examinations can be obtained directly from the website of ICAI or by contacting the Institute. The Institute has recently also commenced conducting CPT examination Online for greater student ease and comfort.

Rescheduling of CA exam ' How far good!

March 30th, 2009

The recentannouncement of rescheduling of CA exams from its scheduled month of May to June this year primarily due to the forthcoming elections is by and large being seen as a BIG RELIEF in the minds of the CA students who have planned to appear for the CA exams this May. The rescheduling includes for levels i.e. CA ' PCC and CA ' Final.

Some may look at this as an opportunity to brush up their studies and preparation as they would look forward to utilize this extra bit of time on the reschedule of the exams. This seem to be a blessing for students who have been very busy with their college studies or Articleship as this extra time would put them in a more comfortable zone. This extra time would make students plan or re plan their study timings so that they can look ahead to clear up the exams more confidently and easily.

However, it may also be noticed that any re schedule which is not planned may disturb the momentum of students who have the habit to plan their studies in time and who follow regular routine studies dedicatedly. Any stretch or a squeeze can be real bothering for students in various ways.

Some might get panic seeing a long stretch of nearly a month while others may have been got a big relief with the announcement of reschedule.

Getting excited on such news is a normal human behaviour. For some this excitement brings smile and to others it can also be an added tension. One must remember that any such re schedule should be looked in a more matured way and not in excitement. One needs to really be at his / her toes and look at things more seriously rather than being excited as that might distract students for a period of time which might be JUST long enough to take every thing even Lot far!

Any such unplanned developments are very serious issues and one must make sure that he or she does not get carried away in any desired anticipations.

Planning this extra time for your studies is of utmost importance so that the momentum you have built in month's time does not get affected by this. Hence, be cautious and confident of your preparation. Nothing can stop you clear the exams and be a Leading Chartered Accountant of tomorrow if you are confident of your self and have a dedicated attitude toward your studies.

CA exams though considered to be tough to clear have been looked upon as the most demanding career option not only by students of commerce stream but also for students who looking for an alternative career being a science graduate / post graduate.

Demand for accountants and finance professionals in India and overseas although have surely
taken a blow with the general downturn in the economy but still students with a long term vision have been choosing CA as their career option. To keep the intake of students growing even in these challenging times, the respective institutes like ICAI, ICSI, ICWAI have been constantly been thinking to so bring in more attractiveness in their course modules and also by showing their positive attitude to the masses by opening up themselves for external tie up with allied institutions across globe and also within the country.

The recent move of the ICAI to conduct the foundation examination (currently known as Common Proficiency test ' CPT)bas multiple choice examinations. Also the Institute has started off with conducting CPT Online so that students find it an upgradation of traditional concept of writing examinations by going to examination halls. What's exciting to watch is will the same move be possible for other levels of the examination been conducted i.e. PCC and CA ' Final.

Leading the way: Chartered Accountants!

March 18th, 2009

We understand that The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been increasingly focusing to deepen the knowledge thrust of the budding Chartered Accountants on one hand and also on other hand ICAI is trying to enable the members of the Institute (Qualified Chartered Accountants) to get recognitions from other allied Institutes of accounting profession of other countries in an easier way.

As part of such an initiative, we understand that ICAI & ICAEW has recently agreed to recognize each other’s degree and Indian Qualified Chartered Accountants would enjoy exemption of papers of ICAEW.

Such a step taken by ICAI and other like accounting bodies further strengthens the profession and also widens the scope of the members of the Institute in terms of exposure for practicing chartered accountants and also in areas of job placements for members not in practice.

This on other hand would also ensure that the students have enough comfort and have the confidence to choose chartered accountancy as their career path. Such flexibilities and enhancements in the options definitely make life easier for students to choose CA as their career path.

We are now moving in an arena of both globalization in economy coupled with globalization in accounting practices. As we move more and more towards building in better transparency in accounting records which is to a larger extent acceptable by different countries having say in the economy of the country, the need to regularly update the knowledge of existing members of the Institute is becoming a necessity. Seminars, classes and other courses are being conducted to help members polish their knowledge base with the current developments so that they could sustain and grow in the competitive and dynamic environment.

We are also seeing moves being taken by ICAI to regularly update its syllabuses like for example: the recent changes in the courses offered for CA ' Final and CA ' PCC exams to ensure that the students are taught and tested on the recent developments and requirements right from the beginning.

All these measures surely would keep CA as the choice of professionals looking for making their career in accounting profession.

Get upto 80% “Additional Edge” to clear your CA, CS, CWA exams

February 23rd, 2009

It’s good to see that The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI)has been taking various proactive steps to raise the standards of education of accounting and financial reporting from time to time in keeping with the global trends.
The shifting of focus of the modern accountants from National to International Accounting Standards, ICAI’s recent launch of Accounting Technician course and the ICAI’s plan to slowly and gradually make the residential classes for the students mandatory as and when proper infrastructure takes up shape are few of the major recent developments which has always kept the accounting world quite awake even at this point of time when opinion of the experts on the short to mid term
economy of the nation is a bag of mixed thoughts.

The demand of accountants and finance executives both tier 2 and tier 1 level does not seem to have been blackened out with the recent economy developments. Be it a Chartered Accountant or a MBA ' Finance professional or any other Finance professional working for any organization, every body needs a helping hand to assist in the accounting / auditing / finance oriented work carried out by them on a day to day basis. This has also necessitated that the corporate world gets adequate inflow of tier 2 accounting professionals at all phases of a country’s economy. Hence, be it a B.Com graduate, a semi Qualified CA ' CS ' CWA or a Qualified CA / CS / CWA or any other commerce Professional every one’s role is gaining importance in achieving efficient and optimum working resource within an organization.

Various timely attempts are being made by all the relevant governing bodies monitoring the course of the accounting / finance world to regularly update its course curriculum, syllabus etc to make sure that the students are exposed to the most latest technical knowledge that will help them easily perform to their best in working conditions for which they have been trained during the course.

It has been understood that in line with its efforts to enhance the efficiency in the conduct of examination, ICAI for the first time successfully conducted online Common Proficiency Test (CPT)
on 7th December 2008 (Sunday) in 11 major cities. It has also been understood that the demand for chartered accountants also is on a rise. This is evident from the number of students which enrolled for appearing for the CA entrance exam i.e. CPT held on 14th Dec., 2008.

These initiatives which are being taken by the governing bodies across the country to help the country get better accountants and finance professionals has surely made it really necessary for the entire student community to honor such steps being taken by the front enders by putting their best in the examinations which ultimately would help them to build a Promising career ahead.

Also the increasing enrollments for the CA exams / CS exams/ CWA exams etc and the peer pressure has led not only students be very sincere with their preparation for the exams, but also this necessitates the mentors who act as useful guides for students to be sincere and keep
theirselves updated  with the latest updates / trends and students requirements.

Be it coaching centers, private tuitions or other form of mentors for eg. Eduex (www.eduex.in) providing mock exam solutions to the students of CA ' CS ' CWA course, every one need to respond to the changing course dynamics, curriculum structure etc to their best as they too play a important role in helping the examinees to be confident of their preparation right from the beginning. This could only help achieve better results for students and would at least help students be ready for any kind of surprise as they would be satisfied with their performance levels and would be
looking ahead with more ease.
