Public expression of our intention to stay united as many times as we can, in as many forums as we can, should itself be a good beginning. After all, these misguided elelments are being “conditioned” into believing that what they are doing is for the greater good of “mankind”. There has to a “counter-conditioning”, to wean away those who may be beginning to think that the terrorists have a just cause. And that will not happen by furher distancing a coomunity. It is very important to hold on to our shared culture and make it evident in the way we talk and act in our daily lives. It is easy to get into a “teach them a lesson” mode. I feel that will only complicate this further.

Thank you for your comments Pradeep. Yes, these are sensitive times. I feel there is a need to beat the perpetrators of terrorism ,at their own game. The masterminds behind these attacks are weaning away youth and brainwashing them to feel that these violent acts are for the greater good of humainty. There has to be a billowing wave of counter-brainwashing to show them that it is beyond reason and the humaneness contained in the essence of all religions to resort to mindless violence. We have to emphasise that again and again in all our interactions to stop more impressionable young men joining their fold.
