Trim Pershad says
Why are we selecting Venugopal Rao and RP Singh? Venu cannot bat quickly nor rotate the strike, he may be a better bet in test than in one dayers. RP Singh sprays the ball all over and is very predictable. Whatever wickets he took were all off ordinary balls, does not have variety nor pace- we have much better bowlers than him who should be given chances. We should persist with VRV despite Kevin Pietersens assault on his bowling in the last one dayer. He is a good prospect
,
Trim Pershad says
In my opinion, Agarkar’s main problem is his inconsistency, especially his economy rate is high in one days. However he is a wicket taker and can give vital breakthroughs which can win games. His fielding in outfiled is excellent and rarely misses a catch. His throws back to the wicket keeper from the deep are very quick and accurate. So overall is an asset compared to so many bowlers. Much better than Balajis, Nehras, Zaheers .In the recent 2 games in Abu Dhabi he really bowled excellently and was in the 140kphs mostly

vaaroskar says
one wonders why virender sehwag is in the team after such a poor chian of scores. just because he is vice captain? batting for him is just slashing the bat without looking at the ball where it has pithed. as a fielder he is very sluggish. inthat respect at least kaif is far far better. sehvags body language is an indicatio of ” i wouldn’t care less”. and on the top of it he is been appointed as captain for the nex two matches. where are we heading india?
,
ramjoystk says
If Sehwag doee not come into some kind of a reasonable form, I would pick Gambhir. Similarly, a new player or even Ganguly can be picked instead of Kaif.
Harbhajan - It was a close call versus Powar. But after having seen Powar on TV in the last 2 ODIs against England I leaned towards Harbhajan. I like Powars bowling. But he needs to lose about 15 pounds and be more agile in the field.
Dhoni - I would not take him for Tests, but prefer him in the ODIs. His less than world class wicket keeping can worrisome in Tests but in ODIs it can perhaps be offset by his dashing batting.

World Cup 2007:
First a few comments about 2003 World cup.. It was poor judgement on the part of the selectors to leave out Kumble and Laxman. They both should have been in the playing 11. With both of them in the team and if we had elected to bat in the final we could have given Australia a much better fight.
Even now, for 2007, select Kumble and Laxman. Experience counts.
As of today, my team for 2007 WC would be,
Laxman (We need his superior technique especially against high quality fast bowlers like Ntini, Pollock, Lee, Gillespie,…)
Tendulkar (I am willing to give him more chances in ODIs although not in Tests)
Dravid
Raina
Yuvraj
Dhoni

Hey there,
Even though I am Pakistani, I read your blog with regularity. I noticed in
your last update, Inzi\\\’s cackle, that you seem to be really upset at

complaining because of your loss. I don\\\’t mean to be rude or anything,

they won… if they were coming after a loss, then the Pak team would be
complaining. So coming after a win, you should know that they are
genuine concerns and you should not dismiss them in such a manner.
The same goes for Moin Khan, the Indian nation is overreacting because
of the loss… Inzamam was obviously not taking a run, so down to the
rule, he was out, but that move truly was against the spirit of the game.
Mike Holding said the same thing about the move, I don\\\’t see you

Let’s hope they don’t get eliminated in preliminary league. Incosistancy, Incosistancy………..Ganguly must be njoysing every moment of this.
I would say that even if Sachin is averaging 41+ in last 2 years (due to injuries or whatever) he is still much better than most players during the last 2 years.

BTW, a word about Ganguly. I will try to be as objective as I can. He is not someone who can be discounted. Not yet. Yes, he has his short comings against genuine pace. His failure againt pace according to
me was more worrisome than his supposedly tardy fielding. He was definetly a good captain. It is not unthinkable that he would lead India again in light of the humiliating losses to Pakistan and England. But it is going to be a difficult task since he has to go back to domestic cricket and make his way up to prove himself worthy of inclusion in the *playing 11*. That is the key. But it is not impossible. Statements that he cannot ever be selected are irresponsible in my opinion.
As for Chappell, thats 2 strikes so far against him (Pakistan and England). Losses can be rationalized sometimes but the first responsibility of a coach is to teach his wards not to surrender.
,
ramjoystk says
Select Raina:
A talented batsman and a superb fielder. Young and untried but so far has shown maturity beyond his years.
Select Venugopal Rao:
Another batsman with talent and class. He deserves a chance in tests.
Select RP Singh:
He has shown enough pace bowling talent to persist with.
Select Akash Chopra:
This is a guy who did an adequate job and at times even better especially in Australia againt Gillespie, Lee atc. Scored a string of 50s and also proved to be an excellent close in fielder. Yet axed to make way for flashier players. Perhaps boring but resolute and consistent. Bring him back and give him another chance.
12,13,14,15 would be
Yuvraj
Venugopal Rao
RP Singh
Akash Chopra
,
ramjoystK says
Select Kaif:
He has a decent overall test record and scored a superb 91 to save India and yet he is dropped! Just because he was
a replacement player? This is utterly ridiculous!! It is not as if Yuvraj has 50 tests under his belt with an average
of 50+. Yuvraj is not a Dravid or a Gavaskar. He is a promising youngster who did well in the Pakistan series. Which is good
but he does not have a right to a spot in the test team a soon as he is fit. He has to wait for another turn.
What kind of message are we sending to performers like Kaif?
Select Dinesh Karthik:
I am not sure if he is still active in domestic cricket and India A team. But if he is, he should be given another chance.
He was axed without a good reason in the first place. He has good batting talent and is a better wicket keeper than Dhoni.
May not be exciting like Dhoni, but test matches need consistent performers.
Select Powar:
He can be given a chance. Harbhajan is not doing that great.
,
ramjoystk says
Select VVS Laxman:
I cannot remember a more irrational decision by any national selection committee than the one to drop VVS. This is a man who scored that epic 281, considered by many past players as one of the greatest in the history of the game. And his average over 70+ test matches is a good 44.xx. If selectors had shown better faith in him, his confidence would
have been even higher and he would have developed into an even greater batsman. Instead, inspite of good recent form in Pakistan, they axed him. What injustice and lack of judgement! He is capable of delivering as a opener or in the middle order. He has the talent
and has proved it over a long time under pressure situations (which seperates men from boys). You just don\’t drop a classy proven test match batsman to bring in youngsters because they show promise or have done well in ODI. Proven test match performance under pressure should be value. Just ask tha Australians. I bet he would walk into their team.
,
ramjoystk says
Drop Dhoni:
He had some exciting ODI innings and a couple of reasonable test innings but ruined it with the abject callous
display in Mumbai test 2nd innings. Yes, its is true it was one instance only but when you consider the gravity
of the team situation it is almost inexcusable. Besides, and this is very important in my view, he is not a test
match standard wicket keeper and there are keepers with far better ability behind the wicket. Missed
stumpings and catches can prove very costly. They cannot be offset by brief exciting innings now and then.
Drop Harbhajan:
He had his good days and a few glorious ones like in 2001. But has failed too many times in the recent past.
There is no harm in giving someone like Powar a chance.
,
ramjoystk says
Indian test team has been brought down to earth and banished into the dungeons and they deserve it. They put up a spineless
display. No body grudges losing to a better team after a spirited and tough fight. But to lose to an english team without 5 of
their original 11 players (I am not putting down the replacement players; they rose to the ocassion superbly) is utterly shameful
especially when the original team itself was considered to be the underdog in the first place.
Conversely, no praise is high enough for the young english team. They showed magnificient team work and the ability to perform under pressure.
In my opinion the following changes need to be made for the next *Test* series:
Drop Tendulkar:
I am reminded of the story called “The naked emperor”. It is high time selectors said enough is enough.
Drop Sehwag:
He is fine for ODI and a superb striker on dead test batting wickets (usually drawn mathes)
but under trying conditions he has failed too often.
