Seven Islands and a Metro
Seven Islands and a Metro - a review
You love Mumbai. You hate it. But you can’t leave the city: that’s the general message of Madhushree Dutta’s 100 minutes non-fiction film Seven Islands and a Metro.
'
The movie is a love letter to the city. Anecdotes, visuals from the city shot by Avijit Kishore, scenes from Sholay, Umrao Jaan, Bunty and Babli, poetry blend well to form the narrative. They also help make the story interesting rather than a collection of facts.
'
Majlis production’s Seven Islands and a Metro starts with tales by two writers ' Ismat Chugtai and Sa’adat Hasan Manto played by Vibha Chibbar and Harish Khanna respectively.
'
The film that is divided into 7 parts talks about labour, migration, opportunities, house hunting, stories of common people like late night vendors, bar dancers, stunt women in Bollywood, mill workers among other things.
