  9. bidisha says

The lure of ‘quick progress’ is something ! But I believe Sarath need not be reminded how much time it takes in the formation of a diamond…… or for just a piece of coal … in formation of crude oil….. mankind’s greatest assets .. :)

Keep up the good work always…..

  10. Nandita Chakraborty says

Sarath, you almost gave me a heart attack..I hevnt removed any of my posts..they are all there..when i read ur comment,i thought they had been deleted..!!

  11. Jus Curious says

and the humans are more concious than animals… i feel you should have added that…i mean animals dont discuss these things do they? I am stuck with my introduction, am i not? :) Putting it in another way, if i knew how to cycle & also how to fly a plane, but if i had acces to only to bicycle, then i can only display my cycling skills! Conciousness could be one fundamental entity inhabiting systems of varied organisation and hence varied responses.
Nice sequence of thoughts there..but i guess purely matter-centric approach to understanding conciousness may be inadequate, as many who work in this field confess. No amount of organisation can make a thing concious. You say,” The objection in the form of memories and brains is trivial; all multi-particle systems have memories. You just have to know how to unravel the information”. Yes, only an external ” concious” input unravels the information. The system on its own is incapable of doing so…because it is not concious

  12. Jus Curious says

You bet i was!! But how could you know about my abortive attempts? Anyways, the next best thing was to put in in your guest book. And thanks for all that info :) , will keep in mind.

  13. Jus Curious says

I am posting comments for your last post here because i am just not able to post it in your blog comment box. Rediffiland sure has an attitude problem!!
One can say understanding conciousness is about understanding life and non life(matter), simply because conciousness is THE symptom of life! So the question is, should we equate life & hence conciousness with proton, electron, atoms, molecules or is life a fundamentally differant reality?? That is THE question. Regards.

  14. jerome says

    Thanks :))))

    have a nice day…

  15. jerome says

BTW, my blog page was giving me problems again (I am so used to it now…every time some or the other problem crops up!)… so, had to re-post the blog…. please, leave your valuable comments again :))

  16. jerome says

    :)))) of course….

    have a great time!

  17. Sahiti Bharadwaj says

Well said about “God” or “enlightenment” being “simple”.

let me quickly try to explain what i meant by oversimplification …it is much different from “simple”

it would be difficult (complex) for an uneducated layman to imagine that he is relaxing on a circular ball suspended in space… spinning around itself and running arnd sun at unimaginable speed..way too complex..what happens here is oversimplification and wrong conclusions

but for a scientist the same phenomenon is “simple” and “natural”

so “the truth” (about earth) is simple for one and complex for the other..so it all depends on individual capacity :-)

so sth cannot be discarded bcos it is not simple…one needs to check whether the reason is individual capacity or twisted logic that is making it complex..

I think firm belief against anything(vedas, gurus) is only as good as firm belief for it…either extreme should be consciously avoided ..atleast that is what i try…

    Cheers
    Sahiti

  19. Sahiti Bharadwaj says

Hi sarath, I have read your “Is the Universe Deterministic?” and “who is God” (the first one..in God Category) posts.. they were interesting…but i guess oversimplified…
I see some gaps in the logic as per my understanding…I am not as nerdy..to give you equations and algorithms :-)

But i shall surely churn the thoughts a little and get back

BTW, did u read a blog about origin of universe by an old ilander “Aham” ?

    Cheers
    Sahiti

  21. Kush A says

    do excuse the terrible grammar

  22. Kush A says

    Hi Sarath,
This is to tell you that I saw you exchanges with maidn india and I think that your harsh response was uncalled for. I know I dont have any right to speak like these but maidn india is an elderly lady by the name of Valsa Lall and very respected at the iland as its own Jug Suraiya. She’s a terrific writer and not been into any kind of controversy ever. She just likes to browse thru ppl’s arvhives and what’s wrong with that? Blogosphere is an open place my friend. If someone is disagreeing with yu then the person shud be welcomed and listened ti - that is the whole idea of blogging. Anyway, what I would just like to point is that your response to the lady in question, who is a personal and a very good friend, was uncalled for. May be you could just agree to that much?! — that it was uncalled for? Anyway this is not to solicit any kind of apology for yu but just to express solidarity with maidn india who doesnt at all deserves to be treated this way.
    ur old frend,
    kush

  23. ThoughtWorks says

“When we talk of present civilization we talk of entire humanity” - yes when i say civilization now, I mean that myself. “we would be immortal as a species” What do you mean by this? We will talk when you get a little free…. I knew it was a touchy topic…. so would be good to understand what makes you differ with what i said and more importantly how can we go immortal! :)

  24. maidn india says

Thank you for your comments in my GB. As far as the topic ISLAM - A VIRUS, Aug 2007 goes, clearly we have different views. SURELY these can co-exist in a vibrant, and functioning democracy, such as ours? My response is posted on the specific blog site… Regards, etc.

  26. Ashish Samadhia says

Yeah… There are couple of them… Breaking Point & End of a beginning are jewels, in fact, when i started reading your blogs & then I read all of them one by one till first one wrritten some where in 2007.. 27. Preethi Nair says

I know I am a bit late in wishing you, sorry for that…. Anyways Congratulations for being on home page….

  28. bidisha says

Well, I was referring to the intangible kind of cause… the hurry to grow faster, sooner (read ‘greed’, as has been mentioned by some) and creating bubbles out of risky things in the process .

And good to know my wave length matches with Santhi in the ‘———-’ aspect at least :))

CONGRATULATIONS U R ON HOME PAGE

  35. ekantapadhika says

Hey, you are on the home page:-)

  36. ekantapadhika says

Well..no particular reason, except that I have been following the discussions of both of you and this write-up is kind of related though not exactly in the same vein :-)

  37. avantika bhaskar says

Thank you Sarath, for answering the my questions so beautifully.. I couldn’t have been ever more convinced by your thoughts.. :)

  38. avantika bhaskar says

  39. bidisha says

Actually I never switch on the TV for myself. I watch a little TV only when my hubby switches it on past 10 at night or when Rishi wants to watch Tom&Jerry or .. this part is important .. when my maids switch it on - the last type led me to my knowledge about the serials of today and then I discovered ‘Balika Vadhu’ & ‘Uttaran’ . I am lucky to have maids and have to admit that they have been my pillars of success in the past about 6 years :))

…and trying out smoking should not be much harmful, we are anyway doing a lot of passive smoking..

  40. Virtual Reality says

Sarath, did you realise what you just said? I don’t mind the long wait; but the important thing is that you come out eventually. : ) Re. VR

  41. Virtual Reality says

Sarath, your last comment on my GB was very stupid. Why do you have so much of ego? Not I get it; ego and stupidity go hand in hand. They are best mates. Our ego is like a crystal vase. It is too dear to us and it is too delicate. We move around holding it close to our heart. We know if we let it go off, if we let it fall, it will break. You are not only taking care of your ego, you are also providing nourishment to it. But I am not going to provide more nourishment to your ego. I can’t just keep on giving pleasing comments to you. I am going to be honest and direct. It’s high time that you come out of your stupidity. I am waiting for you outside. Re. VR

  42. ekantapadhika says

It’s around ten in the morning in this part of the world. You have a good day after a good night’s sleep.:-)

  43. r v says

hey sarath.. coming to your blog after quite a looong time… last when i visited your blog was when u posted a blog about taking a break and now i see there are quite a handful of blogs here too…. shall take my time to pour over them… :)

  44. Sarath Chandra says

sapne…I just don’t seem to be having much to say to you :) I tried and thought about it and finally am able to come up with some words on why.

Anyway, I think you are expressing opinions; not thoughts. For example you are saying, “I think god is this”. I have nothing to say to anybody who says that. Obviously, you can think whatever you want to think or believe. If you say, “I think god is this because…” followed by some data or reasoning, maybe I can have something to say. Or for example, if you want to know my reasons, we can talk about that too.

the concept of nation state will keep on changing…in future it might become something else…

many people have thing feeling, why should delhi be the capital…there is a political and geographical reason for that…in this way the states in US have more independence, and people have valid complaints against Delhi, but lets hope for some change…

  46. bidisha says

Thanks for taking it seriously, Sarath :) and thanks for the comment. It wasn’t written in a lighter mood either. And I am looking forward to changes in sync with the external environment :)

  47. sapnemereapne says

thanks Sarath,.. i shall surely comment on ur blogs that are of my interest and i’d be happy if even u put across ur view points to my comments too… :)

  48. bidisha says

hi Sarath, am not getting any updates about new posts of friends. Just dropped in to see if there is any here and lo! there is in fact one..

do you have any idea of the rediff problem and/or its solution?

  49. ThoughtWorks says

While you are in the quantum universe discussions - I remembered this paper by David Mermin on the question “Is the moon still there when nobody is looking?” basically discussing paper by Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen etc. Interesting read, but 14pages, just for your information given the time constraints you operate in ;-)

  50. ice candy says

if you are writing on randomness, can you please put up a post instead on discussing on GBs
