We live in a goal-obsessed society, brainwashed into believing that diligent focus on targets and objectives will give us what we want; but what if, paradoxically, this goal-driven conviction is reducing our effectiveness?
The harder you try to reach your goals, the less likely you are to achieve them.
We have discovered that a myopic concentration on goals focuses you (and your employees) on the future rather than the present. Too often, good opportunities there for the taking are missed or ignored. As a result, individual and organizational performances decrease, and in the process, morale drops and stress increases.
The same is true in your personal life. Loosening the stranglehold of goals can breathe new life into your creativity, fuel your passion, and help you achieve greater success. What do you say ?
hey just cked out ur blog…very interesting!!!!Every moment in life is full by it’’s own ..Om Poornamadha….every part of the whole is whole by itself…thus , every moment of the journey is as important as the destination….the destination is just a projected moment in the journey….
BTW, pls step into my blog : http://www.seedsofenlightenment.blogspot.com
We people actually donot know the real goal of our lives.many people had choosen many types of GOALs and destination to reach but factually they all became either frustrated or confused and ultimately died with bitter experience because entire life was useless(Shrama eva hi Kevalam)
Vedas says that our actual goal of life is to serve the godhead Sri krishna(Sri Vishnu/Sri Ramachandra). The all great mahajanas had experience & realized the same things about the goal and destination and they were avid to deliver the people like us being smashed by the materialistic concepts of superficial life.Being Krishna conscious is sign of intelligence of an intelligent person.Hare Krishna.
enjoy the journey … not the destination
Even before Your Management lessons on ”GOAL”, our religion tells us about What a Hindu should aim for? What are his objectives or goals as a Sanyasin or as Grahastha, as well as his rights and duties. We learn few things from our career Understanding goals, Goal setting, achieving goals. Any how you brought out a nice post. Thank you sir
if you believe in the richness of the journey, then the destination takes the backseat…organisations however need to decide where they want to be…this would involve both long and short tern goals to be established, with regular reviews to factor in evolution…means are as important as the goals…effectiveness is a measure of the means…there are several ways of reaching the goal, wrong choice of means breeds inefficiency and eventually fatigue…right strategy, wrong execution leads to naught… the leader has the tough role of making the journey challenging and enjoyable and the destination, well worth the while…Cheers,T
SEHAJ PAKAY SO MITHA HOEY,,,,,,,,,,
Concentrating on the goal without enjoying the process will anyway not get you the goal (or will result in stress and other negative effects). In a way, the prime “goal” should be the “process” you choose to reach your end (secondary) “goal”, in my opinion
