Crabby Old Woman

June 30th, 2008

Crabby Old Woman

When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near Dundee, Scotland,it was believed that she had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through her meager possessions, they found this poem. It”s quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Ireland. The old lady”s sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christma  edition of the News Magazine of the North Ireland Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on he  simple, but eloquent poem.

And this little old Scottish lady, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this “anonymous” poem winging across the internet:

Crabby Old Woman
What do you see, nurses?
What do you see?
What are you thinking,
When you”re looking at me?

A crabby old woman,
Not very wise,
Uncertain of habit,
With faraway eyes.

Who dribbles her food,
And makes no reply,
When you say in a loud voice,
“I do wish you”d try!”

Who seems not to notice,
The things that you do,
And forever is losing,
A stocking or shoe

Who, resisting or not
Let”s you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding,
The long day to fill?

Is that what you”re thinking?
Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse,
You”re not looking at me.

I”ll tell you who I am,
As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding,
As I eat at your will.

I”m a small child of ten,
With a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters,
Who love one another.

A young girl of sixteen,
With wings on her feet,
Dreaming that soon now,
A lover she”ll meet.

A bride soon at twenty,
My heart gives a leap,
Remembering the vows,
That I promised to keep.

At twenty-five now,
I have young of my own,
Who need me to guide,
And a secure happy home.

A woman of thirty,
My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other,
With ties that should last.

At forty, my young sons,
Have grown and are gone,
But my man”s beside me,
To see I don”t mourn.

At fifty once more,
Babies play round my knee,
Again we know children,
My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me,
My husband is dead,
I look at the future,
I shudder with dread.

For my young are all rearing,
Young of their own,
And I think of the years,
And the love that I”ve known.

I”m now an old woman,
And nature is cruel,
“Tis jest to make old age,
Look like a fool.

The body, it crumbles,
Grace and vigor depart,
There is now a stone,
Where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass,
A young girl still dwells,
And now and again,
My battered heart swells.

I remember the joys,
I remember the pain,
And I”m loving and living,
Life over again.

I think of the years,
All too few, gone too fast,
And accept the stark fact,
That nothing can last.

So open your eyes, people,
Open and see,
Not a crabby old woman;
Look closer - see ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an old person whom you might  brush aside without looking at the young soul within. Remember, too: We  will all, one day, be there, too!

PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM .

IT”S SOMETHING WE ALL NEED TO READ.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Just wanted to share this with all.

A father was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.

The Father asked his Son, “What is this?”

The Son replied “It is a crow”.

After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, “What is this?”
The Son said “Father, I have just now told you “It”s a crow”.
After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, what is this?”
At this time some ex-pression of irritation was felt i  the Son”s tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. “It”s a crow, a crow”.
A little after, the Father again asked his Son the 4th time, “What is this?”

This time the Son shouted at his Father, “Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times “IT IS A CROW”. Are you not able to understand this?”
A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:-

“Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child”.

While the little child asked him 23 times “What is this”, the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.

So…

If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word; be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents.

From today say this aloud, “I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me.

They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today”.

Say a prayer to God, “I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to

WHAT IS MUKTI?

Spiritual Awakening, Liberation,  Spiritual Enlightenment

Moksha / Mukti is the state wherein there are no attachments and aversion.  “Moksha” effectively stands for the blissful state where there are no desires.  When all the karmic forces surrounding the soul are completely destroyed, the ätmä/the soul becomes Paramätmä or the supreme soul.  This Paramätmä is cut off from the birth and rebirth cycle. Advaitism gurus propagate that Moksha is th  natural state of the soul.

It is a journey by the soul to attain this Moksha and it can be attained by one”s own efforts by stopping the influx of Karmas and eradication of Karmic Forces.   “Moksha” should be the only objective of one”s life.  How do we start this journey?

Lord Shiva is very easily pleased….he exhibits compassion for his devotees and we are been looked after very very well by our Bhagwaan.  Forget the worries and insecurities, revel in Shiva Bhakti .lets begin our journey.

Our journey starts with Bhole Shankar”s Bhakti and Darshan,  leading to invoking his mantras and learning about Him.  Deriving

some inspiration from the Spiritual Avatars, Teerth Yatra punya, wil then lead us to practicing meditation and other techniques for our spiritual growth.  Finally, we will meet our Gurujee who will bump us up into the next realm.  (This ain”t a cookie cutter, so you will certainly figure out your own path)

May Lord Shiva fulfill all our wishes and aspirations, be it material o  spiritual ' everything is a journey, Lord Shiva is listening ' that I know….and guiding us.

Just Five More Minutes (Attitude)

Just Five More Minutes (Attitude)

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.

“That”s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.

“He”s a fine looking boy” the man said. “That”s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”

Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”

The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart”s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”

Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”

The man smiled and said, “OK.”

“My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I”d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I”ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.

She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.”

Life is all about making priorities, what are your priorities? Give someone you love 5 more minutes of your time today!

I hope you woke up this morning with a big smile on your face
I hope the sun is shining just for you
and the birds are singing their very best songs…

I hope your coffee is hot and tastes just right
and the cats are purring contentedly, and the mailman waves a
cheery hello and there are no bills in the mailbox…

I hope just everything goes your way …
I hope everything is well with your world,
a place for everything and everything in it”s place…

I hope you can enjoy all you do and you are
complimented on the way
you look and you can laugh
and talk and share to your heart”s content

I hope you have all you wish for yourself and those dear to you,
and all your dreams come true…

At the end of the day
I wish you a perfect moon shining just for you,
a snug and cozy bed with the softest of pillows
and I hope you
sleep like a lamb with a smile on your face…

I hope you have a perfect end to the perfect day
and I hope that every day is just as wonderful in it”s own way
I hope your day is … filled with love!

A Swami was having a conversation with Lord Shiva one day and said.

‘Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.

Lord Shiva led the Swami to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the Swami looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the Swami’s mouth water.

The people sitting! around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.

But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The Swami shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

Lord Shiva said, ‘You have seen Hell.

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The Swami said, ‘I don’t understand.’

‘It is simple,’ said Lord Shiva.

‘It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.’

When Lord Shiva created the world,

He was thinking of you.

It’s estimated 93% won’t forward this.

If you are one of the 7% who will,

forward this with the title ‘7%’.

I’m in the 7%

Remember that I will always share my spoon with! you.
